“We do have a lot to do, but do you live close by?” KJ asked.

Disappointment showed on her face. “Yes, we do. We have a great apartment not far from the park.”

“Are you allowed pets?” KJ inquired.

Danielle arched a brow. “Yes, we are. I don’t have any. Why?”

KJ smiled at Danielle and explained the full history of who and what Blossom was.

“Why are you telling me all this?” Danielle asked.

She held Drew’s hand for strength to say what she never thought she would say. “If you would like to take her home with you, I think Blossom would be a nice addition to your family.”

“What? Really?” Tears poured down Danielle’s cheeks. “You’re willing to give Jamie your dog? Why?”

Smiling, KJ answered, “Because I hope she does for Jamie what she was able to do for me.”

They exchanged numbers and said their goodbyes.

“I hope you both will come and visit.”

KJ smiled yet unsure if that would be a wise decision.
At least not right away.
KJ kneeled down, making eye contact with Blossom one last time. Blossom came over rested her head on her shoulder briefly then gave her one last a big wet kiss on the cheek before turning and walking off with Jamie in tow.
Thank you for everything, girl. I’ll never forget you.

Drew placed his arm around her and asked, “Are you okay?”

Turning to face him, she was met with more love and concern than she had ever received.
Blossom, you’re right. I’m not alone anymore.
Taking Drew’s face into her hands, she placed a kiss on his lips and said, “My love, with you by my side, I will always be okay.”

Squeezing her tightly, Drew said, “Let’s get out of here. I have someplace I want to show you.”

She had no idea what place that was, but she knew it wasn’t a place she needed to reside to feel content. Her heart had found its home.

Chapter Twenty-Eight

W
hen Drew said
he was taking her someplace special that he went all the time she never thought it was going to require traveling by seaplane. He said he liked to gamble, the first thought that came to mind was Las Vegas.
Guess I was wrong.
KJ had asked him several times during the flight where exactly was he taking her. His only response was “the future.”

Okay, she was just getting used to being a bit more adventurous. Couldn’t he ease her into it a bit slower? No, Drew wasn’t like that. KJ tried to use her womanly ways to get him to spill the beans but when he didn’t want to do something, she apparently was powerless to change his mind.
You can have your way for now since I can’t fly this thing, but wait till we land.

It had seemed like hours traveling over nothing but water. If it wasn’t for the fact she knew he loved her she would’ve begun to worry. As she looked out the window something appeared on the horizon. Was it just a reflection of the water? As the got closer she could see land rising from the sea. It was an island. But which one? “Okay Drew, I see it so now can you tell me where you are taking me?”

“First let me give you the tour from above, then we can explore it from the ground.”

They circled the island. It was beautiful, lush, pure, untouched, no sign of civilization.
How could that be? This place is to perfect not to have been claimed.

“Can you see what I see?” Drew asked.

She looked out the window again. Not sure what she was supposed to see. “I’m not sure. But I love it.”

Drew laughed. “You should see it. If it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t see it.”

What are you talking about? See it? See what?
“I’ve never seen this place before Drew.”

“Brad’s vision. You showed us. And this is where we are going to make it a reality.” Drew pointed off to one of the huge hills. “Can’t you picture it? Takes One is going to build a facility where those who are terminal can come with their families for free. Spend quality time with them and not have to choose good care for their condition over time with their loved ones. No matter what health issue you have, we will have the equipment and staff to care for you.”

Looking again she could see it, just as Brad had described in his emails. Not a hospital but a luxury resort with all the amenities of the best hospitals in the world: oncology, renal, and so much more.

Then Drew pointed to the beach. “Each family will have their own living quarters with their own personal health care staff, nurses and aids, no longer having to go through that journey alone.”

Alone.
Those words hit home. How she wished this was here for her when she needed it. But that was the past. No going back. All she could do was look towards the future. It wasn’t that long ago that the future seemed dark and empty. Here now with Drew, it couldn’t be any brighter if it was the sun itself.

“And there is where we will have fully handicap access to the beaches. There will be no reason for anyone to be in their room unless that is where they chose to be.” Taking her hand in his, he raised it to his lips and kissed it. “So, I ask again, do you see it?”

A single tear fell. “Yes, I do. It’s beautiful. But how are you going to do all this?”

“Not, me. Us. All of us. Takes One will continue Brad’s dream. This is my island and if you agree, I not only would like this to be made into Brads vision, but I would like it to be our home.”

KJ looked at the island below and back to Drew. “You’re serious. Live here?”

“Unless you prefer the city?” He winked at her.

Home.
“I have only one request.”

Arching a brow Drew asked, “You know I cannot deny you, so what is your wish, my love?”

“Do you remember me telling you that you should get a dog?”

He nodded. “Vaguely.”

“One thing Brad left out was animal therapy. I have a great contact who might just have the perfect additions needed.”

“You want a dog?”

Laughing she said, “Dogs, cats, birds, you name it.”

Pulling her over to him he said, “Let’s start with the dog. But if I know you, by the end of the night, you will have me agreeing to an entire zoo.”

Kissing him, she said, “Mr. Navarro, why don’t you land this thing. I want to get an early start on my convincing.”

Drew didn’t hesitate as he began his descent. And she understood his eagerness to be on the beach. For KJ, it was the same but so much more. Getting to this point had been one hell of a journey. Over the last few years, there were many times she had lost faith that she would ever find it. But with the help from Blossom and the love from Drew, she finally had arrived. Turning to look at Drew again, there was only one thought that filled her.
Welcome home.
