The Bosses Billionaire Baby 2 (Billionaire, BWWM, Interracial, Romance) (8 page)

“Good morning,” she beamed the next day as she got into the office.

“My, my, someone is in a good mood,” Marvin responded. He was the accountant, and she rarely spoke with him. It seemed to make his morning now that she had.

“I am,” she smiled as she walked past him and to her desk.  She eyed Megan in her corner cubicle, sulking already even though it was early morning. She shook her head and decided she wouldn’t bother her this morning; she wasn’t worth the fight.

Mid-morning, Selena was busy going through her listings and her finances; she had sold three houses this month even though she could not walk around as briskly as before, so for the moment her head and torso were above water. But she later found it odd how much Megan was smiling at her. She raised her brow in wonderment, but she didn’t bother to ask. Before work ended, Ethan phoned her to tell her to stay back a few minutes after everyone had gone. By this, her heart was racing, even though this would not be the first time he had asked her something like this.

About half past five when only the partners were left, Selena quietly opened his door. He was standing by the window looking out into the street. He didn’t turn right away, but just stood there with his hands dug deep into his pockets. When he turned, she could see stubble on his chin and a pronounced sadness about him.

“Ethan, what is the matter?” She asked, concern etched across her face.

“There is something you need to know, but that I wish had never happened to bring me to this,” he said softly. “Shut the door.”

Selena nervously did and then walked over to him. “You are scaring me,” she told him.

He walked over to her, cupped her face in his hands, looked into her eyes, and then placed a gentle kiss on her lips. “Is it Eva?” Selena wanted to know, more than she wanted his kiss at the moment.

He sighed and then stepped back. “Some time ago she came here and...” he sighed. “I don’t even know how to say that.”

“Did you have sex with her?” Selena asked, that being the only thing to come to her mind that would be hard for a man to say. “Ethan, she is still your wife until all of this is over. That is understandable.”

He looked at her in disbelief. “You aren’t at all rattled by this?”

“Darling, it isn’t as if we have ever had anything exclusive. We played a game and got caught up, so now we keep rolling the dice.”

“There is more,” he said, but before he could say anything else, Eva walked in, stripping her fingers of her gloves and talking, so she didn’t even see Selena standing there.

“So, when would be a good time to have a shower because...” She paused when she saw Selena standing there. “Selena right?” She asked.

“Yes,” Selena responded, but she was rooted to the spot and found it hard to move. “Shower?” She asked timidly.

Then she saw Eva look at her stomach and then at Ethan. “She has been the one to be distracting you all the time, isn’t she?” she asked as she circled Selena. “This is why you keep staying away from me?”

“Eva, this isn’t necessary,” Ethan said defensively. “And you were the one to file for a divorce.”

“What do you think would happen, that he would run off and marry a damn nobody like you?” She asked Selena as her eyes grew red. “As for you Ethan, this is just the beginning,” she snarled. She walked over to him and took his hand and rested it against her abdomen, so that Selena could see. “Congratulations Ethan, you are going to be a daddy... again,” she said as she turned and walked out of the office.

As she did, Selena lost her footing and collapsed to the floor. Before it all turned black, she could sense Ethan standing over her and calling her name, but she didn’t have the strength to answer; she faded away into the darkness swirling around her.
