The Deadliest Secret (The Deadliest Series) (13 page)

By the time he arrived at Gwen’s house his body was humming. He let himself into her townhouse and locked the door, slightly miffed that she didn’t lock the door when she came home. She knew he was coming over, but is that really an excuse to be lax on her security? He didn’t think so. He walked in silence towards the bathroom. He heard classical piano chords playing. He put his hand on the door, turned it so the tumblers were retracted then burst into the room screaming. Gwen’s hands covered herself and she screamed a blood-curdling scream. He stopped his own roar and started choking on his laughter.

“You asshole!” Gwen yelled at him.

“You deserved it babe, left your door open.” Torrian leaned against the door and slowly started to undo his shirt.

“That’s not fair.” She tried not to sound like a petulant child; she also tried to contain her tears the quiver of her lip gave her away.

“What’s wrong?” He started the conversation again

“Nothing.” She lied again.

“Gwen…” He warned.

“Just drop it Torrian, please?”

“Fine.” He almost lamented.

“Want to join me?” Gwen tried to change the subject, the swell of her breasts teasing him beneath the bubbles.

“Dirty play doc.”

“You have to use your assets, come, I’ve had a hard day I just want to be held.” Gwen’s gaze penetrated him to his soul, Torrian began to strip a bit faster and soon he was nude.

“Scoot up babe, I’ll get in behind you.”

Gwen did as Torrian asked and he slid in behind her. He pulled her against his chest and he traced the contours of her body with his fingers. Torrian began to wash her. They spent the rest of their evening in near silence. Torrian’s arms were around her the entire night. Gwen relaxed visibly after the bath, she had finally given up whatever was haunting her from that day at work.

Friday came too early for Gwen’s liking. Torrian had been spending almost every night at her place; they had come together beautifully. He was a god in and out of clothing. She could feel the emotions burning inside of him along with the questions. He wanted to ask her about what happened at work but she just couldn’t tell him. Her past was the past and it needed to stay there. He did not need to know that she felt so responsible for someone turning to drugs and crime. The drive to Gwen’s house took no time after the two were off work. Torrian dropped off his car and climbed into Gwen’s Lexus, his smile softened her.

“Ready to meet my parents on their turf?” Gwen asked as she worked her way through the traffic on I-5.

“You make it sound like we’re going to rumble. Remember they like me already baby.” He chuckled.

“Yeah but they might get more serious at home. I’ve never brought anyone home.”

“I’ll do my best to impress them again, but if your mom grabs my ass again I might have to tell Steven.”

Gwen’s mouth fell agape outrage crossed her features. “She didn’t!”

“No babe she didn’t just wanted to see your face.” Torrian could only laugh.

She kept driving; soon she was coming up to her parent’s home. She parked and took a deep breath.

“Come on babe, I can smell the spaghetti from here.” Torrian urged and his stomach seconded the motion.

“Okay, don’t run after we get back to my place.” She warned.

“I’d never run away baby.” He grabbed her hand and kissed it.

They ambled up the driveway and Gwen entered the house without knocking. She called to her parents, Mayhem was already running and barking signaling someone entered his home.

“Mom, dad we’re here. Hey Mayhem” She laughed when the Rottweiler jumped and started giving her face a bath.

“Oh killer dog.” Torrian laughed

“In here honey.” Marie shouted from the kitchen.

“I’ll come help. Torrian do you want a beer or something?”

“I’ll get it, just point me in the direction.” Torrian pulled Gwen to him for a quick kiss before her parents descended upon them for the evening.

“Hey kids.” Steven emerged from his study, he closed a heavy book and pulled Gwen in for a hug, he shook Torrian’s hand.

“Mr. Bjorkman you have a beautiful home. I’ve always wanted a home like this one.” Torrian said while shaking Steven’s hand.

“Has Gwen given you a tour yet?” He asked of his daughter’s suitor.

“No sir not yet.” Torrian gave another of his signature smiles.

“Gwen, go help your mom, Torrian you come with me, I’ll show you around with Mayhem.” He nodded.

Gwen scurried off to help her mother with dinner, she gave a backwards glance to her boyfriend, half amusement and half enjoyment. He was going to get the boyfriend talk from her father. Oh if she could be a fly on the wall for that talk. She washed her hands and started helping in the kitchen.

Time passed by fast. The four were soon sitting down to dinner. Torrian was nominated to say grace. Each member of the group took turns detailing their week. Gwen was shocked by how normal this was. Her parents were quite welcoming. After dinner, Torrian grabbed the dishes and took them to the sink. He began washing. Gwen looked after him then to her parents and she shrugged. Steven got up and went to help Torrian, since the women cooked he figured the men could clean Torrian just beat him to the sink.

“You clean I dry.” Steven said, Torrian just nodded.

Torrian made a snide remark about the Seahawks Steven being a loyalist to every Seattle team started debating with Torrian. Gwen laughed; the two were like teenage boys. Of course if you introduced any subject related to sports Steven would have an opinion. She stopped talking to her father after a football player got off light for fighting animals, her father believed he paid his debt she didn’t. They had a stalemate on that discussion. Neither one of them would acquiesce to the other. Gwen and Marie retired to the living room, they were discussing the latest book they had both read and pining to have their lives be like a novel.

“Gwen this man is clearly in love with you.” Marie stated in a matter of fact tone.

“Mom shush, it’s still new.” Gwen hushed her mother, she didn’t know if the men were still engrossed in their conversation.

“Say what you want buttercup but he’s in love. Should see how he looks as you. It’s like you’re a giant steak and he skipped lunch. It’s quite adorable, and a little sexy.”

Gwen blushed hard. “Mom this is worse than when you asked if I was a lesbian!”

Marie and Gwen fell into laughter remembering the awkward conversation from not too long ago. Torrian and Steven came into the room and looked at their women.

“We miss something?” Torrian asked.

“No” Gwen and Marie said in unison.

“Whoa, surround sound.” Steven chirped and everyone cracked up.

“Baby it’s ten and we both have work tomorrow.” Torrian said, sadly breaking up the party.

“Okay,” Gwen frowned, she enjoyed this visit with her parents it seemed to be more casual than some in the past, “see you soon mom, dad… I love you both.”

Gwen kissed both her parents then knelt down to love on the perpetual puppy Mayhem. Torrian hugged Marie and shook Steven’s hand and said his own goodbyes.

“Be sure to come back next week Torrian, as long as you treat our girl right, you’re always welcome for dinner.” Steven said.

Marie and Gwen were a little shocked, neither of them expected to have Steven take well to Gwen’s suitors.

“Yes sir, I will see you every Friday from here on out then. We need to schedule that golf game too.” Torrian smiled and snaked his arm around Gwen’s waist.

“Call my receptionist, she’ll get it set up in my calendar. Goodnight you two drive safe.” Steven said as he walked with the two towards the door.

Torrian opened Gwen’s driver’s side door for her then slid into the passenger side without complaint.  When they were on the freeway with the Seattle skyline fading from the rearview on I-5 Gwen shook her head and laughed softly at her conversation with her mother.

“Torrian… my parents like you a lot. even if you did lie about working”

“Yeah, they’re good people and raised one hell of a woman.” He smiled at her.

“My mom thinks you’re in love with me.” Gwen shifted.

“I am.” Torrian looked at her with every hint of joking out of his eyes.

“You sure you want to love someone like me?”

“I have no choice Gwen, it’s been you for a long time my dumbass head just kept getting in the way.” Gwen felt Torrian’s eyes burn into her soul as she drove and he spoke.

“Oh…”

“Yeah.” He said and looked out the window.

“I do too.” Gwen said low.

“You what?”

“I love you too.” She took a second to gaze at him; his whole face had lifted back up.

“Damn baby that’s good to hear.”

“Yeah, no more pouting.”

“I wasn’t pouting woman.” Torrian chuckled and rubbed his stubble.

“Uh huh.” Gwen smirked but kept driving; she was doing her normal seventy miles an hour.

When they pulled up at her house he hopped from the car and opened her door for her. He tugged her to him once more. He held her hips and took her lips as his. Her body responded just as he hoped.  With ease he picked her up and spun her with him.

“Get that door open and you have a ten second head start.” His eyes glinted with a carnal promise.

“No cheating.” She opened the door then took off up the stairs.

He followed after counting to three, he took the stairs two at a time then tackled Gwen into bed. They spent the evening till the wee hours of the morning making love. The sun was just beginning to rise when their sweat riddled bodies collapsed into the bed again, both of them were panting heavily. Neither had problem sleeping.

Chapter twelve

Kody was back in his cell just existing he didn’t want to eat. Gwen had refused his gift. He worked so hard on the present and she was heartless enough to deny him. She claimed it was the rules that she couldn’t accept it he was a patient, but that had to be a lie. He isn’t just a patient he was her first. He had been inside of her. His mind would not let him stop thinking. He begged for the voices to stop torturing him. He couldn’t sleep so he decided to remember all the times with Gwen, but his memory faltered when it came to the reason why she left. He had done something, but he couldn’t remember what was so horrible she would leave him so broken. He grabs the poem and the drawing he spent hours on, his blood, sweat, and tears were in each of those. He hadn’t tapped into his latent art talent in so many years; it felt nice to express his thoughts to her that way, in a way she had to know was reserved just for her. Kody beat the sides of his head after he threw the pieces of paper out of the cell.
