Annie smiled. “Anyway, I wanted to wait until I found out if the book was an embarrassment or not.” She paused for a moment. “My agents are very encouraging. They say it might even be commercial.”
“Annie! How great. So, what’s the secret masterpiece about?” Brenda asked.
“Oh, you know,” Annie said slyly, looking at her two dear friends.
“The same old, same old.” And she lifted the First wives Club manuscript out of her bag and put it down between them on the flat, shining surface of the table.
