The Naked Truth (30 page)

She began applying the henna to the curve of Callie’s breast. Callie watched her careful, delicate movements and wished that she could reach out and touch Abiona’s gorgeous, curly hair. In fact, she wished she could touch her anywhere. The thought didn’t startle Callie nearly as much as it should have. She’d been fascinated by Abiona at first sight, and she certainly thought highly of her as a person. She had never before thought about a woman sexually, but Abiona was different. So different.
Abiona finished the tattoo and lifted her eyes to meet Callie’s. ‘There. We will see what that does.’
Callie stared at her for a moment, thinking that any woman could lose herself in the depth of those incredible eyes.
‘I can understand why Erzulie would want to possess you,’ she murmured.
The voodoo priestess smiled. ‘And I can understand why your husband wants the same of you.’
A flutter of surprise went through Callie. ‘You can?’
Abiona smiled. ‘You are lovely. You have a great sense of self and courage. And you have harmony and peace within you. It is a most attractive quality.’
‘I . . . I do?’
‘Callie,’ Abiona said. ‘May I kiss you?’
The question was so charmingly direct that Callie smiled. She couldn’t attribute her feelings to the effects of drums or chanting or anything except her own desires. She was entirely clear minded, and all she wanted was one chance to touch this lovely woman. She nodded.
Abiona rose and brushed her lips lightly across Callie’s in a movement so delicate it was like the brush of a bird’s wing. Warmth filled Callie’s body. Abiona’s fingers trailed lightly over lace-covered breasts, her long, brown fingers providing a striking visual contrast to Callie’s pale skin. It was as if she had struck a chord, leaving Callie’s body vibrating with increasing arousal and curiosity. Callie slipped out of her blouse and reached behind her to unclasp her bra. Abiona’s eyes grew even darker as she gazed at the hard-tipped mounds of Callie’s breasts. She straightened and grasped the folds of her own robe, lifting it over her head.
Callie drew in a breath. She had known that Abiona possessed a beautiful body, but she hadn’t expected such perfection. Her shapely legs and curved hips inclined upwards to a narrow waist and large, rounded breasts. All over, her skin was a perfect, even tone: the colour of coffee and cream. She was succulent.
‘Come.’ Abiona took Callie’s hands and urged her to stand. Then she unfastened Callie’s skirt and let it fall to the ground. ‘There. Now I can properly kiss you.’
And she did. Callie was enchanted. Abiona’s full lips moved over hers with a striking degree of tenderness, her hands skimming down to caress Callie’s breasts. After a brief hesitation, Callie let herself touch the other woman. Abiona’s skin felt as smooth as satin underneath her palms. She let her hands wander, tracing the curved lines of Abiona’s body in a fascinated exploration. Her buttocks were perfectly rounded and pliable, her breasts deliciously touchable.
As they sank to the floor, Callie told herself to remember everything about this. This was not a trance, not a leaving of herself after which her mind would be wiped clean. No, this was two warm, living bodies; an experience she had never had and one that she wanted to remember. She lowered her body over Abiona’s so that they were fully pressed together. Abiona stroked her hands over Callie’s back, nibbling at her lower lip.
‘You know, we should not be doing this in a room with the
loas
,’ she said.
‘You said they used to be human,’ Callie reminded her, squirming lower to press kisses over her breasts. ‘I’m sure they’ll understand.’
Abiona giggled, then gasped as Callie took one of her nipples between her teeth. Callie’s pussy was already swollen and moist, but she wasn’t ready for this to end just yet. She took her time making her way down Abiona’s body, drinking in the scent of her skin and licking a path with her tongue. When she reached the crisp hairs of Abiona’s cunt, Callie glanced up. Abiona’s breathing had become erratic, her eyes hot as she nodded her assent.
‘Yes, Callie, lick me.’
Moving on instinct, Callie parted the other woman’s thighs and gazed in uninhibited fascination at her sex. Then she drove her tongue inside and sucked up the droplets of moisture coating Abiona’s folds. Callie had never tasted another woman’s juices before, and the flavour and scent filled her head like an aphrodisiac. She spread her hands over Abiona’s belly, feeling the woman’s body twisting and tensing as moans came from her throat. Abiona’s long legs wrapped over Callie’s back as her hips thrust upward, encouraging the sweeping strokes of her tongue. And then Abiona’s entire body jerked rhythmically as she came, her hands gripping Callie’s head.
Panting, Callie pulled away and smiled at the sight of Abiona spread out before her, looking both sated and lovely. Abiona reached out to pull Callie beside her, easing her knee between Callie’s thighs.
‘Ah, Callie, I found you intriguing from the very beginning,’ she murmured.
Her fingers slipped between Callie’s legs to manipulate the folds of her pussy. Callie gave herself up to the sensual ministrations of the other woman, letting her body relax.
‘You did?’ she murmured, rolling one of Abiona’s dark nipples between her fingers. ‘I thought the same of you.’
She buried her face in Abiona’s delicious neck, her breathing increasing as arousal climbed in her body. Abiona’s long finger slipped inside her, working back and forth as her thumb circled Callie’s clit. Callie cried out and clamped her thighs together as her body vibrated forcefully against Abiona’s hand. She writhed against her, letting Abiona ease the final sensations from her body before they sank against each other.
Abiona kissed Callie again. ‘I think we must redo your henna, yes?’
Callie glanced down at the tattoo, which was smudged beyond recognition. She chuckled. ‘Yes, I think so.’
They stood slowly. Callie watched Abiona’s graceful movements as she dampened a cloth with water and prepared a fresh henna paste. She was simply mesmerised by the totality of Abiona’s self-assurance and the singularity of her beauty.
‘I wish I could be more like you,’ she confessed.
Abiona’s eyebrows lifted as she reached out to wipe away the smudged tattoo. ‘Why is that?’
‘You’re so beautiful and confident.’
‘And you’re not?’
‘I’ve never thought I was.’
Abiona lifted Callie’s chin and looked into her eyes. ‘Callie, precious, you can’t wish to be like someone else. If you do not like who you are, then how can you be happy?’
‘I like who I am,’ Callie assured her quickly. ‘But you seem to know exactly what you want, while I don’t.’
‘Yes, you do. You simply haven’t realised it yet.’

allie shaded her eyes from the sun and looked across the Turner Creek marina at the gleaming white lines of Logan’s yacht. If there was one thing she had loved about her life with him, then it had been the days when they took the boat out on to the river. For a few brief hours, he would relax and even seem to enjoy himself as they skimmed over the water and drank in the warm sun. Six months after they married, he had renamed the boat
The Calla Lily
. The name was still painted on the side of the hull.
Callie took her keys out of her handbag and went down the ramp to the docks. She had some good memories of her marriage. Maybe she didn’t realise that a month ago, but there had been islands of happiness and fun. But they were just that: warm islands amidst a cold sea of control and disapproval. With a sigh, Callie climbed on to the boat and unlocked the door of the cabin. The interior was decorated in gorgeous, polished teak and antiques that had always made Callie feel warmly comfortable and secure. She sat down on the bed and looked around, remembering several nights when they had simply drifted off to sleep rocked by the movement of the water.
Regret nudged at her soul. She tried to push it aside as she opened the wardrobe and began to remove her clothes. It was better this way, she told herself sternly. Logan wouldn’t change, and she certainly couldn’t go back to the same kind of life with him. She supposed that some things just weren’t meant to happen.
Her heart suddenly leaped as she heard footsteps on the deck. Who had followed her here? She hurried to the door just as Logan’s tall figure appeared in the doorway. Callie closed her eyes and pressed her hand against her chest.
‘Logan! Why didn’t you tell me you would be here?’
‘I didn’t think it was necessary,’ he replied. He was dressed in shorts and a T-shirt, which was odd, considering it was Thursday morning and he should be at the office. He rested his hands on his hips and levelled her with an even look. ‘Find everything?’
‘Yes, of course.’ Callie looked at him curiously. A strange kind of tension emanated from him. She put down the pile of clothes she was holding and ran her hands over her thighs. She was suddenly nervous. ‘I thought you’d be at the office this morning.’
‘I took the day off.’
‘I see. Why?’
He shrugged. ‘I figured I was due for a day off.’
‘Well, then, I can just come back another time if that would be easier for you,’ Callie suggested. She didn’t know why, but she had the odd feeling that she should get off this boat sooner rather than later.
Logan shook his head and reached for the doorknob. ‘That won’t be necessary.’
‘I don’t have to –’
‘Just stay here, Callie. I want to talk to you.’
‘I thought we’d done all the talking we needed to do,’ Callie retorted. She picked up her bag and moved towards the door, but he blocked her exit. Alarm fluttered in Callie’s stomach. ‘Logan, I said I’ll come back later.’
His mouth tightened as he shook his head. ‘No. You’ll stay here now.’
With that, he stepped outside and closed the door behind him. The lock clicked. Callie stared at the door in shock, unable to process what was happened. Within moments, she heard the coughing and sputtering of the engine, which gradually gave way to an even hum.
‘Logan!’ Callie ran to the door and yanked furiously at the handle. It didn’t budge. He had really locked her into the cabin. ‘Logan, open the door! What the fuck are you doing?’
No response, except the gentle bump of the boat as it passed over ripples in the water. Heart pounding, Callie hurried to the porthole. Sure enough, they were leaving the marina and heading for the open expanse of the river. Callie pressed her fingers against her temples and tried to think. Her own husband had tricked her into getting on the boat so that he could abduct her. My God, was he deranged?
Callie went to the door again and pounded on it with her fist. ‘Logan! Let me out of here!’
She heard nothing. Callie began pacing back and forth angrily, her mind spinning with fury and a huge sense of betrayal. Before they had even cleared the channel markers at the basin entrance, she had worked herself into quite a frenzy. Only when they were a good distance up the river did she hear the lock click again. Logan pushed the door open, and Callie flew at him in a rage.
‘You bastard!’ She slapped her hand across his face, leaving a dark red imprint. ‘What do you think you’re doing? How dare you trick me into coming here?’
‘Callie, calm down.’ Logan grabbed her arm as she drew back, ready to let another blow fly towards him. His fingers tightened around her wrist. ‘You’ve refused to come home, and I’ve been finding your behaviour very tiresome.’
‘So you decide to kidnap me?’ Callie shouted. ‘What kind of bastard are you?’
‘This is clearly the only way I could get you to come to your senses.’

I’m
not the one who’s lost their senses! You think this is going to make me want to come back to you? Well, fuck you, Mr Dictator. I want a divorce!’
His expression hardened. ‘You’re not getting one.’
‘The hell I’m not! I’m calling the police and charging you with kidnapping and lying and entrapment and . . . and false imprisonment!’
To her shock, Logan’s mouth actually quirked at the corners. Now he was laughing at her? She bunched her fingers into a fist and slammed it into his stomach. The bastard didn’t flinch, which only served to make Callie all the angrier. How could she have thought that she might actually love him?
She tried to push past him, hoping that she could get hold of the radio to call the coastguard, but Logan suddenly gripped her arms.
‘Let go of me!’
Logan shook his head. ‘I can’t have you causing a scene on deck.’
Callie gaped at him in outrage. ‘Causing a scene! Don’t you think I have every right to cause a scene?’
‘Once you’ve calmed down, we’ll talk about this.’ He pushed her back against the bed and reached into a drawer of the bedside table.
Callie was shocked when she watched him remove two pairs of handcuffs. Handcuffs! A sudden rush of fear went through her, stirring her adrenaline. She yanked herself out of his grasp and darted towards the door. Just as her hand closed around the doorknob, Logan’s arm grabbed her around the waist and hauled her back towards the bed.
