We were finally getting used to chatting but the place was really crowded. There was a slight shift in the air that seemed to point at the commotion in the place and she seemed to sense it. ‘Well shall we,’ she said and called the waiter over.

I didn’t know what I was hoping for but inside I was let down thinking that the night was going to end . . . or so I thought.

When the waiter came over she said

‘I only have large bills so let me just pay for it’ and quickly took care of the bill. My plan was to quickly slide my big bill over to her but . . .

‘I’ll pay you for my portion later then’ I told her.

After we left the restaurant, we started walking to nowhere in particular not saying anything. I tried to suss out whether she was thinking of going home.

We walked for a while then

‘It’s still early isn’t it?’ she said.

Inside, I was all

Ahyeah------!

I checked my watch and it was only a bit after 9.

I asked her ‘Um, do you have a curfew?’ I thought I was being considerate.

‘Aha-hah-hah’ she laughed.

But I got to see her smile so it was all good.

‘I’m way past curfew age but thanks for asking’ she replied.

Damn it. Did it again.

‘There’s a place nearby that I like. Do you want to go there for a bit?’

ahyeah comin atcha!

‘Sure. That’d be great.’

So off we went.

‘Let me pay my share for dinner’ I said and handed her about 70% of the total bill. She took it and said

‘This is a little too much’ and gave some back

‘But I was the one that asked you out . . .’ I said, urging her to keep it.

‘I guess you won’t listen even if I argue’

and she quickly (?) took all the money. I may have been too persistent.

Since we were already full we went to this place where we would be able to just do drinks and snacks and man, this place was much hipper-looking than where we had just come from. I thought I wouldn’t even be allowed in. She had been there a few times. I thought that the place matched her vibe.

We sat down and looked through the menu. She was going to order wine and some appetisers. I looked through the menu and couldn’t find anything I could order so I ended up with wine and a cheese thing, both of which I’m not used to eating or drinking.

‘This place is so cool-looking.’

I said it hoping to sound like I was admiring her taste.

‘Yeah it is. I kind of like it here.’

She seemed to be enjoying herself. I was very uncomfortable.

We milked the restaurant topic for as long as we could then

‘Are you ever told that you look like a celebrity?’ I asked, even though I don’t really know many.

‘What? No, not really. But my friends say I look like a Moomin.’

I almost fell off my chair because cartoon characters are not celebrities, I wanted to tell her but I kept it in.

‘aaaaa . . .’

I made as if I was agreeing.

Moomin . . . hmmm . . . she may in fact, look like Moomin . . .
