1 cup plus 2 tablespoons sugar, or a touch more to taste
1 cup port wine
1 (12-ounce) package fresh or frozen cranberries
Fresh grated zest and juice of 1 orange
Fresh grated zest and juice of 1 lemon
In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar, port wine, cranberries, orange zest and juice, and lemon zest and juice. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium-high heat. Reduce heat slightly and simmer for 10 minutes or until thickened, stirring occasionally.
Remove the saucepan from heat and let the sauce cool. Serve or store in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
This sauce stores
really well, so you can make it a couple of days before you want to serve it. This is especially helpful if you're cooking Thanksgiving dinner, and want to make some of the dishes ahead of time.
