PROLOGUE

~

I walked out of the barn and heard the roar of Harley Davidson motorcycles. The noise made the guard dogs to go wild, I yelled at them to behave.

My old man, Veiko and his brothers had arrived and were on their way into the driveway, our teenage daughter ran to unlock the gate. Her long, slim legs and blonde hair flashing by, reminded me of...myself long ago.

I was happy; I had my horses which had been my first love. That was how I met Veiko Finn. The first time I ever saw him, I had been riding a horse.

Memories flooded my mind - so many good times mixed in with the bad. We had buried quite a few brothers over the years, as well as their old ladies. So far, none of our closest friends had died.

Luckily, despite the lives we lived, V had never gone to prison, though he’d come close a few times. We had gone through so much but we stayed together though the good times and bad. As far as I knew, he had never cheated on me. Good thing, since my temper was legendary.

I suddenly felt lightheaded. I grabbed the barn door for support and focused on the worn colors on his back. It was a fearsome skull with bat wings flying toward the flames of hell. The patch was so damn old and V wouldn't replace it. I listened to the guys all joking and saw V looking for me. He knew I was around, we always sensed each other.

A wave of dizziness hit me.

Damn it! I will not faint!

I held on tighter as I watched Jersey's son, Trace flirt with our beautiful daughter. Veiko snarled at them both and she flashed him her middle finger before heading towards me.

I smiled at her and just then, I felt the world spinning. Anjulie, or AJ as she was called, saw me and the last thing I recalled before I crashed was the scared look on her face.

I came to in V's arms in our bedroom. He looked down at me, worry clear on his face.

"Kima, you cleaned the barn? It's the kid's job - you are supposed to be resting." He looked at me closely. "You rode too, didn't you?"

Damn! I smelled like barn and horses.

I nodded tiredly. No sense in lying.

"You're slowly killing me, Babe. You know we worry about you. All of this affects the kids and I hate seeing you like this. You're getting a shower and going to bed."

AJ looked at me from across the room, "I've got it, Mom - I can handle dinner. You go rest; here's your pill."

I took the Xanax she handed me along with the sweet tea. She left the room, softly closed the door behind her.

Veiko undressed me, "Babe, we'll shower together."

I didn't mind him showering with me. In fact, I loved it. He had made this shower for the two of us in mind and it was wonderful. As always, when his fingers touched my body I felt fire. I reached for him but he pushed my hands away.

"No fucking way, Babe. You're resting."

I pouted at him but he firmly shook his head. He put his colors in the closet. He ripped off his shirt, followed immediately by his boots and jeans. He left them in a pile on the floor.

Damn!

I thought his body was almost like the day I met him; strong, lean and corded with muscle. Seeing Veiko naked always turned me on.

V had the water running the way I liked it; nice and hot. He was gentle as he washed me. I was too tired to wash my hair, so he did that for me as well.

I hated being sick; hated that the doctors didn't understand what was causing me to faint and I couldn't tell them. But, I knew this day would come, and had always known someday I'd pay. I knew what was wrong with me.... I couldn't help the panic attacks, I hid them for years.

V grabbed a warm, oversized towel from the warmer and bundled me into it. He slung another around his hips and carried me to bed, carefully placing me on it. The king-sized bed was calling my name now, I was so tired.

V slipped a worn t-shirt over my head as AJ came back in to comb my long hair.

"Sweet dreams, Mama," she softly gave me a light kiss on the cheek.

Once I fell asleep, the dreams came back so clearly. I dreamed of the day I met V, and of my friends; Jo and Nailz, Hunter and Elena, Thrash and China, Jersey and Joyful, Marco and Bullet and, of course, Darko. Then the images changed, turning dark as the nightmare began. Like a malevolent, foreboding demon, Rabid entered into my subconscious state.
