Brandi

“Kay, you need to go get checked and see if you’re pregnant,” I rolled my eyes, as the words left my mouth.

She smacked her gums and replied. “I have an appointment tomorrow. Girl, I am praying that I am. Jaeshawn ass is on his way over here now.”

I bit the inside of my cheek listening to my sister go back and forth about what she was going to do with this new baby. The fact that she wanted another baby, when she barely spent time with her first one, was crazy to me. She didn’t need another baby just to try and keep a man. I couldn’t only blame her, because Jaeshawn’s dumb ass kept fucking her raw.

“Well, call me in the morning before you drop Kay-Kay off,” I told her.

“Alright, I’m bout’ to watch the last of this movie, and wait for my man.” she said, sounding like a complete idiot.

I ended the call and continued to cook dinner for me and my girls. Ivory was playing on the living room floor and watching cartoons, while Avery was in her play pin eating her toes. I loved being in my own place, without the hassle of living with someone else. My bell rang, and I went to open the door. It was my mother and I was so glad to see her and have some girl talk.

“Hey, mama, how was the ride over?” I asked, as I welcomed her inside.

“Good, but parking over here is crazy,” She complained, and I went to the kitchen, to pour us some wine.

“I know, I don’t plan on being here forever, unlike Kaysha,” I slipped.

“Brandi, what is going on with you and your sister now?” She took the wine glass and sat on the couch. Ivory kissed her, and then she went back to playing with her toys.

“Did she tell you that she may be pregnant?” I said, sitting beside her with my wine glass.

“Another grandchild, lord!” She exclaimed. “Jae, better go ahead and put that ring on that ASAP,” she laughed, and sipped her wine.

“Ma, stop letting Kaysha lie to you. She and Jaeshawn aren’t together and he doesn’t want to be with her. They fuck and that’s all,” I put her on to game.

She put her hand over her mouth, to keep from spitting her wine out, on my new carpet. “Brandi, your sister tells me everything. I think she would have told me,” She naively replied.

“I’ll prove it to you right now,” I said, and went to retrieve my cellphone.

I dialed Jaeshawn’s number and he answered sounding half asleep. “Yo’”

“Jae, where you at?” I asked, putting my phone on speaker.

“Just left my crib, I’m heading over to your sis crib right now,” He yawned.

“Oh, okay. Did she tell you about being pregnant?” My mom hit me, but I kept with my question.

“Yeah, she did that shit on purpose. It’s whatever though, I’ll take care of mine. She think we’re going to be together, but we’re not,” he informed me, and I gave my mother a look.

“I feel you, I told her she just needs to move on, and co-parent with you.”

He laughed and I heard his car start in the background. “Kay, aint co-parenting with nobody. She wants to be a family, and I don’t want to be with her. I’m keeping the peace right now,” He stated, I nodded my head like he could see me.

“You’re right, I just was calling to check on you, bro. call me next week and we can do something like lunch,” I offered.

“Fo’ sure, I’ll hit you up. How’s the girls?” He asked, before I was about to end the call.

“They’re good, getting too damn big,” I smiled, looking at my babies.

              “Cool, cool, I’ll holla’ sis.”

I pressed the end button and looked at my mom, who was shaking her head. I guess she finally saw that my sister was selling her ass a dream. They wouldn’t be living in that huge condo he had, and she wouldn’t be his wife. I wasn’t doing it because I was jealous, it was because Kaysha always liked to think something, when it was the complete opposite. She was creating an unhealthy environment for Keyshawn, and the new baby. I planned to talk to Jaeshawn when we met up for lunch next week.

“Kaysha needs to get a grip on reality then. She can’t keep walking around here feeding people stories, when it isn’t the truth,” She smacked her lips, and finished her glass of wine.

“My point exactly. She thinks he is going to marry her, when it isn’t true. Jaeshawn wants to date, but Kaysha ruins it every time,” I shook my head.

“I’m going to have a talk with her. What’s going on with you and Jamal?” she switched the subject, and I rolled my eyes.

“He calls, and wants to see the girls, but I don’t believe it. When we were at his mother’s house, he barely came home or cared. He’s so busy running around and he doesn’t have time for a family, and I’m cool with that. I don’t need a man,” I felt proud of my choice to finally get up and move.

“That’s right, boo. You don’t need his scrub ass. When you going back to work?” she questioned, I smiled, because I had just lined up two interviews.

“Well, I have one at some club in the city I went to with, Kaysha. I’ll do the bottle service and keep the kids at your house at night.”

“Sounds like a plan, but you know on Friday nights, I go to my man’s house. So, I’ll bring them with me,” She notified me.

“Cool, I’m finally doing something, and not stuck in someone else’s house.”

“It aint nothing like your own, boo.” She said, and sipped her drink. I did the same and thought about working soon.

I knocked on Brandi’s door like the cops. This bitch knew I had an appointment and she was taking forever to answer her door. When the door finally opened, it was my mother. She opened the door wide enough for me and Keyshawn to walk in. Ivory was sitting on the couch, watching cartoons.

“Why you knocking like the cops, girl?” My mother’s raspy voice asked, I ignored her and placed Keyshawn on the couch beside Ivory. I gave him his juice bottle, and snack.

“My appointment is in an hour and I’m still not dressed. I had to walk him over here, when Brandi’s ass could have met me halfway,” I complained.

“Brandi has two children to get ready, you only have one. Be fair, Kay. Now, why you going to the doctor?” She questioned, walking into the kitchen.

“I might be pregnant, again. Jaeshawn is going to be so excited, ma. That ring is coming soon,” I squealed.

“Knock the shit out, Kay. I spoke to Jae, and that man isn’t marrying you, or happy about that baby. If a man don’t want you, let his ass be. Go on to your appointment, but bring you ass over here when you’re done,” She demanded and I kissed my son and headed back home.

I don’t know what my mother was talking about, or how she even found out about me and Jaeshawn. For the longest I’ve been feeding her lost hope of me and Jaeshawn getting married. Although, I knew it was the furthest from the truth, it still made me look better than Brandi, and her dysfunctional relationship with Jamal. I waved it out my mind, as I entered my apartment, again. Jaeshawn was buttoning his shirt, and spraying cologne on his body. I was pissed because I thought I would have some time to hang with him, before my appointment. I dropped Keyshawn off early just so we could.

“I thought you were staying longer?” I asked, as I went to the kitchen.

“Nah, I got to take care of some things today. Where you going that Keys can’t come?” He said, referring to our son’s nickname.

“I have an appointment. He doesn’t know how to act,” I took out the eggs.

“And you think you need another one,” He snickered.

“I do need another one, and apparently you did too.” I shot back, and he glared at me. “We were just good at your house, why you acting like this now?”

I sat thinking about me and Keyshawn’s time at his pent house. We fucked all over, spent time as a family and it felt amazing. That was how I wanted all our time to be like.

“We were good, but we weren’t together and I’m sorry if that shit confused you. Kay, I met someone, and I’m thinking about taking shit to the next level with her,” He revealed to me.

My heart was caught in my chest, and I couldn’t breathe. The eggs was abandoned, and I was standing right in front of him. He didn’t look phase as I stared him down, feeling like my heart would be in my throat.

“Who is she, Jaeshawn?” I tried to ask calmly, but my voice was shaky.

“Somebody, it aint your business, Kaysha.” He walked to the door, and left out.

I slammed my hand down on the kitchen table. I was so pissed that he was talking about another bitch, while sitting in my house. He had just stayed the night with me, but was falling for somebody else? I went to get ready for my appointment, because if I dwelled on this too long, I was sure to go fuck up his fat ass.

______

I sat on the examination waiting for them to tell me the results. I had did all the testing, and now I was sitting here racking my mind about what could possibly be the outcome. I was praying, and wanting to be pregnant so bad by Jaeshawn. That would be the only thing that would make him stop trying to be with this new girl. The doctor came in the room with his clip board and a face I couldn’t read. He sat on his little stool and flipped through my chart.

“Well, Mrs. Nevins, you are pregnant! About a month and week pregnant,” He confirmed, and I was leaping for joy on the inside. I must have been pregnant before I pulled that morning sex routine with Jaeshawn.

“How did this happen? I’ve been careful,” I lied, acting distressed.

“Well, miracles happen sometimes. Take care of this baby, please. I want you to stop smoking this pregnancy, I know you said it was hard with your son, but can you try?” He looked at my concerned, and I nodded my head.

              “Yes, I’ll try, Doc.”

“Thank you, get dressed and grab your scripts on the way out. I want to see you in a couple weeks.” He said, and left back out the room.

After getting dressed, setting my next appointment and grabbing my prescriptions, I was in my truck, cursing to my sister’s house. I called Jaeshawn on my way over to her house.

              “Yeah,”

              “I’m pregnant, boo,” I announced.

He sighed and said in a low tone. “I’ll holla’ at you later about this. Get rid of it,” He threw in the last comment.

“That’s a negative, boo. We’re going to be parents, again.” I happily made a right onto the expressway.

“I’ll holla’,” He ended the call and I shrugged my shoulders. It didn’t matter because I was having his baby.

Maddie

Slap!

I felt a thick hand come across my resting face. I jumped up so quick, that my left foot landed right into a pot of scolding hot water.

“Ouchhhh!” I screamed, jumping back on the bed and falling on my ass. My foot was red and scolding hot. I couldn’t breathe, it was burning so bad.

“Who fuckin’ car you got in?” Jared asked, coming toward me with a belt. I knew he was about to do some damage, because I saw the stream coming off the belt, and the baby oil opened on the dresser.

“It was my mother’s cousin. He was taking me to get some clothes for his wedding,” I lied, that was the first thing that came to my mind.

“Fuckin’ liar!” He roared and swung the belt. It landed on my thigh and stung like hell. I tried to hop off the bed, but my burnt foot wouldn’t allow me to. All I could do was try to rap myself in fetal position and cry. Each time he swung the belt, my body welted. As if that wasn’t enough, he was squirting scolding hot oil on my legs. He had been gone a week, and the text messages he sent me when I was in Miami with, John, slipped my mind. The last thing I remembered was being dragged into the bathroom, before I blacked out from the pain.

Tiara

I walked out my last class for the day with a smile on my face. I had managed to tackle my first week of classes and I felt confident with handling this, while raising my babies. I knew it would be a struggle, but I needed to do this for my future. I didn’t want to be a bottle girl for the rest of my life. If I wanted my daughters to have high hopes and dreams, it had to start with me first. How I look, telling Joy I wanted her to be a doctor, and I’m still squeezing my ass into tight shorts to serve bottles at the club? I walked out to the front entrance, and Jaeshawn was standing against his truck, with a smile on his face. I smiled too, because I had missed him the last couple of days.

I ran into his arms, and he hugged and kissed my forehead. He helped me into the truck and went around to his side. He slid in, turned the music down and pulled off. I took my bag, and put it on the back seat.

“How was your first week back, pretty?” he looked at me, and the back at the traffic.

“Jae, it was cool. I’m finally excited and not scared about the future,” I beamed with pride.

He smiled at me and touched my thigh. “I’m proud of, Tiara. This is something you want, and you’re going after it. I can’t do nothing, but respect that,” He smiled.

“Thank you, so what we doing?” I buckled up.

“I want to take you to my crib. We can have some lunch on the balcony, I got my chef whipping something good up. First, we’re picking up the little princesses,” He instructed.

“Sounds like a plan,” I smiled and sat back.

We pulled up to the daycare, and Jaeshawn jumped out before I could. I sat back and reached for my phone. Maddie was calling me nonstop, since I was in class. I picked up, and she sobbing into the phone.

“What’s going on, Maddie?” I asked, and looked at Jaeshawn bringing my babies out.

“Jared got picked up. They’re combing through this house, and said its property of the DEA now, and I have to leave,” She continued to sob.

By now, Jaeshawn had gotten back in the car, and heard Maddie sobbing on speaker phone. “Yo’ Maddie, you good?”  He asked, with concern in his voice.

“Her man just got knocked, and they’re making her leave her house,” I explained.

“Stay right there, I’ll have John come scoop you,” He told her, and called John.

Once he called John, and he told us he was heading to her, I was cool and felt better. I knew she didn’t care about Jared, but about her house. I sat back in the seat, and tried to relax. I felt bad that Maddie was being put out her house, but she could always stay with me or her mother.

“Stop stressing, she’s going to be good,” Jaeshawn jarred me from my thoughts.

I looked at him and sighed. “I know, I’m just thinking how crazy it is that Dyron is locked up, and now Jared got arrested.”

“Damn, it sound like Dread letting his men take the down fall, or he setting them up,” He said, and I looked at him. “What? That shit aint adding up, ma’,” He rubbed his goatee.

“I know, I always said that Dread was no good, but Dyron treated him like a god,” I rolled my eyes, just annoyed thinking of it.

“Yeah, yall women always sense shit we don’t pick up,” He replied, making exiting off the highway.

“Who you telling? I know a lot, but nobody listens to me until it’s too late,” I sighed.

“I’m always going to listen to what my shorty got to tell me,” He smirked, and turned his attention back to the road.

“Is that so,” I batted my eyelashes at him.

We pulled up to the sidewalk of a high rise building. The building was right in the heart of Manhattan. The valet driver was waiting to take the car, and Jaeshawn got out to help me with the babies. We walked into the building, and the doorman nodded, and held the door open for us. We stepped into the elevator, and Jaeshawn pressed a button with a P on it, and stuck his key into the slot near the button. We went up to the top floor, taking in all the sites through the elevator. When we got to the top floor the door opened, and my mouth dropped.

“Wow, this is beautiful,” I complimented.

Waterfalls were on both sides of the walkway from the elevator, and it opened up to a living room, kitchen and dining room. Then there were huge windows, which opened up all around the house onto a balcony. I couldn’t believe this is how someone lived. I was happy I had a fire escape, and he had a wrap around balcony. I looked around, and that’s when I saw the pool on the second floor. From the pool, you can see downstairs, and vice versa.

“Thank you, pretty. Stop acting shy, and let’s sit and have some lunch,” He laughed and took his coat off, and threw it over the couch.

I gently put my coat over the couch and carried Pride to the balcony door, where Jaeshawn had placed Joy. He closed the door once I stepped out, so they wouldn’t be cold, although it was a nice day. I sat down and he pushed me in. the chef came out the door near the kitchen and put down a chicken crusted salad with pecans and bacon down, and poured us some wine.

“This is really nice, I appreciate you showing me your house,” I said, taking a sip of my drink.

“You aint seen nothing yet. I’ll give you a tour when we’re done,” He winked, and shoved some salad into his mouth. “Taz, bring that food out, I don’t want no damn salad,” He barked, and the chef came running out with two more plates.

“Well this salad is the bomb, and I’m eating mine.” I took a bite of the chicken.

The chef placed mash potatoes, asparagus, and steak down in front of us. “Ah, I see you putting that salad down now,” He chuckled.

“Real funny, so what’s going on with you?” I questioned, as I placed a piece of steak into my mouth.

“Same shit, a nigga been stressing to be honest with you,” He revealed.

I reached across the table and touched his hand lightly. “What’s going on? You alright?”

“Nah, my baby moms is pregnant, again. Shit just been sour with me, but I’m alive, so I’m good.”

I swallowed my piece of steak and shook my head. I couldn’t front like I was a little upset he was expecting another child, but I liked him too much to just walk away. Who was I to judge? I had two children and he didn’t mind, in fact he welcomed them with open arms.

“Wow, so what are you going to do about it?”  I covered my mouth, while I chewed.

“Take care of it. She’ll go into hiding and take my son if she think I’m going to take her to get an abortion. On the real, ma, I hope this doesn’t change where we are heading.” He touched my hand, and I smiled.

“Makes things a little more interesting, but it doesn’t change anything. I’m still here.”

“Damn, I lucked up stopping that day and helping you. I want you to be my woman, I’m not even going to say girl, because you are more than that. You’re a woman,” He told me, I choked on my shrimp and had to take a sip of wine.

“Are you sure? You don’t think it’s too so—“I stopped midsentence because Pride started to cry.

I started to get up, but Jaeshawn stopped me. He got up and opened the door and unstrapped her from her seat. He picked her up, careful to hold her little head. “Where’s her diaper bag?” He asked.

“In the living room, I can ge—“

              “Nah, eat, I’ll get it.”

I continued to eat, and a couple minutes later he was coming back with Pride, who was happily sucking on her bottle. I smiled because it felt good not jumping up and tending to them in the middle of my meal. I got time to eat and enjoy my meal long enough my taste buds registered what I was eating.

“They getting so damn fat, they turned two months yet?”

“Um, duh, Jae. They turned two months last week. They don’t stay little forever. Soon I’ll be mediating fights between them. Probably fighting over the bathroom, isn’t that what girls fight about when they’re teens”

“I can tell you this much, they won’t be fighting over bathrooms. They’ll have too many to choose from.”

              “Oh, yeah?”

“Dead ass, you’re going to be my wife. Come on, let me show you the house.”

I followed behind him, while he continued to feed Pride. I picked Joy up and cradled her. He showed us the guest room, bathroom and man cave, and family room he had made upstairs. We walked passed the pool, and I peeked inside the crystal frosted doors, and there was in ground pool, with a Jacuzzi and sauna.

“Next time bring your bathing suite, and we’ll swim,” He suggested.

“This body isn’t swim suite ready yet.”

“Stop fronting, you looked good,” He remark favorably on, and I blushed. Hiding my face in Joy’s little neck.

“I’m not,” I protested, as I followed him into the master suite.

I was knocked off the floor when I walked into that room. It was definitely for the grown and sexy. The entire wall the king size bed sat on was a quilted patterned headboard the stretched across the whole wall, and came all the way to the ceiling, over the top of the bed. I had never saw a bed that big and comfortable looking. I just wanted to climb on it. At the foot of the bed sat a marble bench with a bouquet of flowers. In the corner of the room there was a huge comfy beige chair with a table, and reading light. The balcony was off the room with a view of the city and two expensive lawn chairs looking out at the view.

“This is gorgeous,” I whispered, as I walked around the room.

Jaeshawn finished burping Pride, and put her receiving blanket on his bed, before lying her down on top of it.

“All that is missing is my lady, but she’s coming real soon,” He came behind me, and kissed the nape of my neck. My body shuddered, as his lips brushed across my skin. “They say to speak things into existent, so that’s what I’m doing,” His cool breath caressed my ear drum.

“I heard that too, you think so?” I turned and faced him.

He towered over me, but held my gaze. He licked his juicy ass lip and I felt myself getting weak in the knees. “I know, so. I got business to handle out of town, and I want to take you and the girls with me,” He held my hips and continued to look me in the eyes. I patted Joy’s back, as I watched his beautiful eyes stare at me.

“I don’t know, I just started school and taking the girls is a lot,” I tried to back out, but he held my jeans tight, and continue to use those eyes on me.

“I’m going over spring break, that’s next month. I know for a fact that Maddie and John are going.”
I thought about it, if Maddie was going I had to go. “Where exactly are we going?”

“Miami, you down?” He bent down and kissed my neck. I pulled away and placed Joy right next to her sister.

“I am down, but you have to let me study.”

“I got you,” He pulled me into his lap, in the chair in the corner.

He kissed my neck and rubbed on my butt, while I thought about if this could all be mine. Could I be someone’s wife, and especially a man as powerful as Jaeshawn?
