Maddie

I walked into the hotel room, and John was sitting on the balcony having a drink. He was in a serious conversation, so I didn’t bother him. I learned from Jared not to butt into anybody’s business. I undressed and went to take a shower, so I could lay down.  I had a splitting headache and anxiety about this plane ride. My anxiety hadn’t bothered me since I met John, and now it was flaring up and I didn’t have any medication to help with it. I heard the door to the bathroom open, and saw John sit on the bench in front he shower.

“Why you didn’t tell me you came in, Habibi?” He asked, fumbling with his cellphone.

“I didn’t want to interrupt you,” I loudly replied, because I was under the shower head.

“How many times am I going to tell you? You’re not bothering me. I want you to come say hi to your man.”

“My man?” I stepped out the shower. He smirked and motioned for me to come closer. “You want to get wet?”

              “It don’t matter to me.”

I rinsed off quickly, and walked over to him on the bench. He pulled me on him, and I wrapped my legs around him. It was crazy that all my anxiousness faded away at the touch of John. All the doubts and ill feelings I was having melted away, as I laid my head on his shoulder.

“What’s good with you?” he asked, and I sat my head up and looked him in the eyes.

“Just anxious not knowing where I am going. Like I’m used to structure and now I don’t even know where I am going to live and how I am going to survive.”

“Baby, I don’t want you worrying about something that doesn’t matter,” He assured me, but a man once assured me things, and look how that turned out.

“This does matter, John. I don’t have a home, clothes or money coming in.”

“Maddie, it doesn’t matter because I want to take care of you. I don’t want you to worry about anything. I want you to move in with me and shop until your content. Put that woman’s touch on my place, and make it ours,” He said, holding my face, so I knew he was serious.

My heart started beating and I didn’t know what to say. It had been two months, since we met and he had saw me in my worst, so what could it hurt. It was something in that back of my head that kept telling me not to jump from one situation to the next.

              “I… I don—“

“I don’t want to hear hesitation. I am not that nigga and I think I have proved that. I have never met a woman who I am so connected to that will make me want to hang up my playa’ card, but you have. You have patience and you don’t push me to put a label on what we have. That’s why I decided to put a label on it. I want you to be my girl. I want to spoil you.”

              “I know, but I don—“

“Stop saying but and don’t. Let’s step out on a leap of faith and just do it. If it doesn’t work, then we can say we tried.”

              “That’s true.”

“See, so what you gonna say?”

“I guess we can try it out, but I don’t want to change your house. I’m just happy to have some place to live besides my mother’s house.”

He picked me up and gripped my ass cheeks and kissed me. “I’m ready to leave this hotel and go home.”

              “Home?”

“Yes, it’s a home now that you’re going to be there.” He kissed my lips.

“I like the sound of that.” I put my head down on his shoulders. Was I finally getting this happy ending I heard so much about?

Jaeshawn text me that he was outside and I took my time to head outside. What he thought he could give me a kiss and money and that would make it better? I put my robe on and went into the kitchen to grab a can of soda before going outside. My mother was nursing a cup of coffee and holding Pride’s bottle.

“You spoil her mama,” I teased, it was no secret that Pride was my mom’s favorite.

“You know I love my Pride baby,” She kissed my baby’s rosy cheeks.

“Joy is grumpy like her damn daddy. Where is she? Sleep?”

My mother chuckled and started to burp Pride. “No, sitting in her swing and looking around. Her favorite thing to do.”
I snapped my fingers because it slipped my mind to tell my mother about Miami. I knew she was going to be upset about me telling her last minute “Oh, mom, I know you are going to be mad, but can y—“

              “Go to Miami?” She interrupted.

              “Yeah, how you know?”

“Jaeshawn called me and let me know. He wanted to ensure you were still going to go, and I’m not giving up a free vacation, so we’re going. Even if I have to watch my grand babies.”

I couldn’t take this woman, how was she pimping me out for vacation? “Alright, let me go talk to him. He’s outside. I don’t appreciate you pimping me out.”

“Oh yes, you do. Hurry up outside because you need to finish your assignments online. I want to make sure you graduate on time. May will be here before you know it.”

“I know, damn I’m grown and you treating me like a baby.” I giggled.

“You’ll always be my baby. Hurry it up and tell him I said hi.”

I walked out the house and as always Jaeshawn was standing outside the car waiting for me. He made it so hard to be mad when he was looking so good.

“Come take a ride,” He said, and opened the door.

I hopped in the front seat and waited for him to get in, once he did I wasted no time laying into him.

“I’m not with the games, Jaeshawn. I’m not going to sit back while you be a happy family and filling that girl’s head.” I crossed my arms, and turned facing him.

“I’m not filling her head with nothing. I told her that we’re official.”

              “Oh did you?”

“Yeah, I already told you I fucked up, I’m not gonna fuck up again.”

I turned back around and unfolded my hands. “Who told you to call my mother? You think you slick, huh?”
“I needed to ensure my girls were coming.”

              “Girls?”

“You and the twins. They could use some sun too.”

I smiled because he made me feel so warm about mentioning my girls. I knew he had taken a bonding to them, because they were always with me.

“You didn’t even give me tickets for the flight,” I told him confused, how the hell were we going if there wasn’t any tickets?

“Ma’,” he looked at me and flipped his hat to the back. “You already know a nigga not flying commercial. I chartered a private jet. We’ll leave in the morning.”

“Fine, but aint nothing wrong with commercial.”

“It aint, but it aint for me. You coming to my crib tonight?” He switched subjects.

“No, I need to study. Graduation is right around the corner, plus my mother is on my ass about school. She wants to see my graduate.

“I feel her. I can’t wait to get you to Miami,” he licked his lips, and rubbed my thighs.

“Me either, I’m gonna turn up.”

“Yeah, ight, don’t get yourself in trouble.” He warned me.

I ignored him and smiled because I couldn’t wait to get out of New York for a week.

Roberto took the ladies to my crib, and me and John got into my Ashton Martin and took off down the Miami streets. I had business to take care and to make sure my money was moving. Miami was my stomping yard and I spent all my time here, until Kaysha had Keyshawn. That’s when I started staying back in New York full time. I had business all over the world, there wasn’t one place I could settle without having any business ties to it. I knew Tiara would enjoy having her family with her, so she wouldn’t be worried about where I was. I had a surprise for her, since I fucked up with Kaysha. I wanted her to know I was serious about what I said. I was done with Kaysha and she wasn’t going to catch me slipping again.

After we finished checking on shit, and surprising our soldiers, we headed to the Mercedes dealership. I fucked up by messing with Kaysha when I was supposed to be with Tiara, so I wanted to do something nice for her. Between her going to school, taking the twins to daycare and running errands, she depended on me, or she would try and take the bus and train. I wasn’t feeling my girl on the bus and train, when she had a nigga who could get her a whip. I fucked with a Columbian nigga who owned the dealership. We pulled into the lot, and he was already outside waiting. I parked and stepped out the car.

“What’s good, loco?” He greeted me, and then slapped hands with John.

“Ain’t shit, I’m looking for a truck for wifey,” I told him, and followed him inside the show room.

“Wifey? You put a ring on Shaloma’s finger?”

I stopped and looked at him sideways. “Shaloma? Nigga I been done with that bitch. We broke up before I moved back to New York.”

Shaloma was a chick I was messing with before I moved back to New York full time. She didn’t want to move, but wanted to spend my money. Don’t get me wrong, she owned one of the hottest nail bars in Miami, but I wasn’t with the long distance shit. I haven’t heard from her since I left, so I knew she wouldn’t be a problem.

“Oh, so who’s this lucky lady?”

“She’s from New York, shorty will be my wife real soon, mark my words. She got twins, so I want something easy for her to strap them in and go.”

“You got more kids? Damn son you move quickly,” He joked and motioned me to a truck centered in the middle of the show room.

“Nigga, I fucked up and messed around with my baby moms, so I want to get back on her good side.”

“I feel you, so what you doing about this? Shipping it to New York, I can have it up there by tomorrow.”

“Cool, I’ll take this exact one, what’s the damage?” I asked, looking at him.

“I’ll do eighty grand. That’s the best I could do, and that’s only cause you my home boy.”

“Ight bet.” John handed him the brief case and we headed out back out to meet with the women.

                                                                      ______

My Miami house was the shit, and I had to pat myself on the back. It was 26,000 feet of pure bliss. Soon as the iron gates opened you were welcomed through a cobble stone driveway with lemon, orange and apple trees lined up on both side all the way up to the front door.               It was wooden, steel and glass doors with huge knockers on them. On both sides there were tall marble pillars with ‘LB’ on both of them. I parked the car, and walked into the house. I could smell food already being cooked, and I knew it was my personal chef.

I found Ms. Pam sitting on the counter with my son in her arms. He was drinking out a sippy cup. I laughed because he still drank out of bottles, and he fought Kaysha to use his sippy cups, so she gave up and just let him have a bottle. The twins were in the middle of the floor on a blanket, laying on their backs.

“Hey, can you believe this little boy still drinking out a bottle? You should be ashamed, and his mama,” She started in one me.

“He fights his mama on it.”

“Who’s the baby? Never mind, the girls are going out tonight, so it’s just me and the babies. I need you take some money and get some a pack and play for the babies to sleep in.” she demanded, digging in her pocketbook.

“Nah, I got it Ms. Pam.”

              “Are you sure?”

“Yeah, hey daddy’s Gee,” I said to my son and he reached for me. I carried him upstairs and found Tiara looking through her bags that she has positioned on my bed.

“I thought your master bedroom in New York was huge, but this one is the size of my apartment.”

“Where you going?” I bypassed her statement.

She walked over to me and played with Keyshawn before she answered. “Out with Maddie. Its spring break and I didn’t bring my mama along to be cooped up in your house.” She took my son and placed him on the floor. “You need to get gates for the steps. He’s walking and shouldn’t be held all the time.

I paged Roberto and he came right upstairs.

“Head to target or Walmart and get baby cribs, swing, bouncers, diapers and baby gates.” He nodded his head and headed out. That’s was why I took him everywhere. He was like my Fonzworth Bentley.

“Let me finish getting ready and I’ll see you when I come in. I really need some girl time and to let loose. I’ve been in the books, working or taking care of my babies. I just want to act like I have no responsibility.”

I wasn’t feeling her hanging out and acting crazy. Since I met her, she has never exposed that side to me, and I didn’t want to see it. Kaysha acted out enough for me and I didn’t want my girl getting sloppy drunk when I wasn’t around, but I knew I had to let her go. That didn’t mean I wasn’t going to follow her ass.
