Finding Home (25 page)

Her excitement was rubbing off on Dillon. “Of course! What is it?”

“You’re going to be an uncle!” Tears were shimmering in her eyes.

“WHAT?” he shouted loudly. People turned to stare at them. He turned red and lowered his voice. “Are you serious?”

“Yeah! I took the test yesterday. We are going to tell everyone next week at Sunday dinner, but we wanted a week to ourselves to let it sink in.” Amy was so happy she was choking up.

Dillon jumped out of his chair and hugged her. “That’s amazing! I’m so happy for you guys!”

“Thanks, we are incredibly excited. Greg asked me to move in with him, so we’re going to be doing that, too.”

Dillon was overwhelmed. “You honestly want me to be your baby’s uncle?”

Amy patted her still-flat stomach and shot him an incredulous look. “Of course, Dillon. You’re Adam’s partner, which makes you my brother-in-law, which in turn makes you little nugget’s uncle. Get used to it Uncle Dillon, you’re stuck with us.”

And Dillon didn’t ever want to be unstuck.

*****

Dillon arrived home before Adam. He texted Adam’s phone to let him know he was back, and Adam answered that he’d be home in about an hour.

Dillon took that time to put all of his stuff back in their bedroom, where it belonged. It made him so happy to see his stuff next to Adam’s again. He’d been so stupid for leaving Adam like that, but it seemed that he was learning his lesson.

He heard the front door shut, indicating that Adam was home. He walked out of their room and met Adam in the hallway. “How was work?” Dillon asked.

“Well…” Adam began. “About that. I didn’t actually have to work.”

Dillon’s heart began to race. “What do you mean you didn’t have to work? Where did you go?”

There was a twinkle in Adam’s eye and his face upturned into that gorgeous smirk of his. That wasn’t fair. “Oh, I went to the shop. I just didn’t actually do any work. Instead, I had some work done on me.”

“What are you talking about?” Dillon was so confused.

“Come into the bedroom with me?” Adam requested.

Dillon followed him. Adam flipped on the big light and turned his back toward Dillon. He unbuttoned his over-shirt and let it slide off his arms, then tugged his white t-shirt off, revealing his bare back to Dillon. “Are you ready?” he asked.

“For what?” Dillon wondered. Adam turned around and Dillon gasped. Adam had a new tattoo on his chest and it was gorgeous. He walked up to Adam to inspect it more closely.

It was a gold heart locket, with a key attached to it by a ribbon. Red and black accents swirled out from it in a beautiful design. Dillon choked on a sob when he saw what was written on the key. His name was inscribed on the key. It had that old rustic look to it, yet elegant in its own right. “Is this real?” he whispered, completely overwhelmed with emotion. “It’s so gorgeous.”

Adam placed his finger under Dillon’s chin, gently tilting it until he was looking into Adam’s eyes. “It’s definitely real, Dillon. Do you remember my biggest rule for tattoos?”

Dillon nodded. “Never get a name tattooed on your body unless it’s family.”

“You and me, Dillon, we are a family on our own, but you know you are a part of a much bigger family now. Grams, Gramps, and Amy, they feel the same way I do. We all love you, and I know you love us.”

“I do,” Dillon agreed.

“So that’s that. You’re stuck with us now, and we’re stuck with you. That’s what family is all about.”

Dillon had to smile. “That’s what Amy told me a little bit ago.”

“She’s a smart girl. She takes after her baby brother.” Adam chuckled, but then his demeanor went serious again. “I love you, Dillon, and I don’t see that ever changing.”

“I love you, too, Adam, and I hope it doesn’t.”

Adam bent and captured Dillon’s lips in a passionate kiss. “It won’t,” he promised against plump lips. “How’s your knee feeling?”

Dillon knew what he was asking, and he needed it. “Not as bad as earlier,” he assured Adam. “Make love to me?” No way would Adam ever deny Dillon anything.

They scrambled to get naked and on the bed as fast as possible. As Adam entered Dillon, connecting them in the most intimate way possible, Dillon couldn’t help but think how you can’t always run from your problems. He’d run from Chicago, but he’d endured eighteen years of hell there. Adam was the only safe place he’d ever known, so he wasn’t ever running again. He’d stay and fight until the end.

Epilogue

Six Months Later

“Hey, can you straighten that banner over there?” Adam asked Landon, as he arranged plates and napkins on a table. “I don’t want it to be all crooked.”

Grams came in with a cake and sat it on the table that Adam was working on. “When is he supposed to be here?” she asked.

“In about fifteen minutes,” Adam answered, checking his watch.

Amy came waddling in with Greg. She looked like she was ready to pop, and Adam was so ready to meet his niece. She was one of those pregnant people who always had that glow to them. She was beautiful, even all swollen and miserable. “I’m here!” she announced with a grin on her face. “Now where can I sit?”

“You’ll sit up here at the head table so Dillon really thinks this is a baby shower, until we surprise him,” Adam told her. “Greg, you can sit next to her.”

“Great,” he replied and helped Amy over to the chair. “So, he really doesn’t suspect anything?”

“Nope, not a clue.” Adam grinned. He loved surprising Dillon.

So much had happened in the last six months. Dillon had gotten the all clear to go back to work from his doctor in mid-June, but while he had been off, he’d decided he wanted to go to college. Adam was incredibly supportive of his decision and helped him with getting his G.E.D. so he could get into a college. He was still working part-time at Target, but he’d applied for grants and loans and was actually doing it. Adam was so proud of the man Dillon was becoming. He’d always been proud of Dillon, but Dillon wanted to really make something of himself.

Going to college was hard for Dillon at first, being surrounded by all of those people, but he kept going no matter how uncomfortable it had made him, and he overcame all of that. He knew Adam always had his back, and he had the support of his family, so he never had to do it alone. Dillon had eventually made new friends at school and was really becoming a social butterfly. He’d chosen Early Childhood Education as his major because he wanted to be a preschool or kindergarten teacher.

Dillon had started going out with Adam and his friends. They were all really respectful about not drinking when Dillon was around. Adam still went to the bar with his friends too, without Dillon, and things were just going fantastic for them. Adam was more content with his life than he’d ever been.

Adam was throwing a surprise party to celebrate the end of Dillon’s first semester. They
told him it was a baby shower for Amy. Cody was bringing him.

Adam stood back and looked around the room. He was pleased that he’d pulled it off, but mostly he couldn’t wait to give Dillon his gift. It was a huge step for them as a couple.

Sid came walking into the room. “Cody just pulled up with Dillon.”

Everyone was acting normal when Dillon walked in. Grams was doting on Amy, like always, and Amy was eating it up. “Hey, everyone,” Dillon hollered as he walked in. There were too many people there to say hi individually.

He walked right up to Adam and hugged him. Adam loved how affectionate Dillon was. Anytime he’d been away from Adam for an extended period of time, the first thing he did was embrace him. Dillon had told him once that it was because he felt safe with Adam, and sometimes the outside world still overwhelmed him. He took comfort in knowing he was home with Adam, and Adam loved that he could do that for Dillon.

“How’s the mother-to-be?” Dillon asked as he approached Amy, patting her stomach. “And my precious niece?”

“Mom is good but ready for your niece to be evicted and come meet us,” she laughed. “I’m beyond ready.”

Dillon leaned over to hug her. “Uncle Dillon is ready to meet her too.”

“So is Uncle Adam,” Adam added, coming up behind Dillon, resting his chin on Dillon’s shoulder.

Dillon looked at the bag in his hand and then around the room, seemingly confused. “Where are all the presents? Aren’t you supposed to bring presents to a baby shower?”

The whole room broke out in laughter. “Should I tell him now?” Adam inquired.

A collective “YES” rang through the room. “Tell me what?” Dillon asked. His eyebrows furrowed in confusion as he looked at Adam.

“Oh, nothing… Just that this isn’t a baby shower. It’s actually a party for you to celebrate your first semester of college. Surprise!” Adam added at the end, then he smirked his damn gorgeous smirk at Dillon.

Dillon shook his head. “Really, you guys?”

Grams came up beside Dillon and hugged him. “Yes, sweetie. We’re all so proud of you.”

“Now, don’t make me cry, Grams.” Dillon turned and wrapped her in a bear hug.

He mingled with everyone as the party went along. They all ate, laughed, told stories, and eventually Grams served up the cake. Dillon looked around the room at one point. For a poor, neglected boy from Chicago, he’d certainly racked up quite a group of people who loved him.

Sid, Brian, Justin, Matt, Landon, Cody, Grams, Gramps, Amy, Greg, and of course Adam, were all there. He had to choke down the sudden wave of emotion that rose inside of him. There was so much love for him and he found that he had so much love to give back.

Grams stood up. “I’d like to say something.” A quiet hush fell over the group.

She walked over to stand behind Dillon and Adam, putting her hands on their shoulders and squeezing. “I remember the first time I met this young man. He had just gotten into town and was homeless. He was one of the most respectful eighteen year olds I’d ever met, though, and he gave off a vibe that I knew I could trust him. I took a chance on renting a room to him, and it just so happened that was a night that I needed Adam to cover. I felt protective of Dillon immediately, and I remember warning Adam that he needed a friend, not someone to take advantage of him, but as it turns out, he just needed Adam. And in turn, Adam needed him. To watch the transformation in these two has been a privilege and an honor. They healed things in each other that I don’t think anyone else could have. It hasn’t always been smooth or perfect, but then love never is. Your love for each other is a testament to fate, and I can’t wait to see what life has in store for you down the road. I’m so proud of both of you.”

Tears slipped down both of their faces. “Grams, didn’t I tell you not to make me cry?” Dillon complained, a slow smile crossing his face. “We both love you, too.”

*****

Back at home, Adam was nervous as hell to give Dillon his gift. He
’d been preparing himself for it for weeks, months even, but now he was ready.

He pulled Dillon into a kiss as he began to unbutton Dillon’s jeans. He could feel Dillon’s body responding to him, and he loved that it never took much for them to be hungry for each other. Dillon moaned into Adam’s mouth, pushing his shirt up over his head, revealing his tattoo. He never got sick of seeing that. “God, I love you,” Dillon whispered.

They were both naked quickly, and Dillon pushed Adam onto the bed, straddling him. He captured Adam’s wrists above his head with one hand and took hold of Adam’s hard cock with the other. “Tell me what you want.” Dillon grinned seductively. Adam’s hips rose, thrusting into Dillon’s hand. “I want you to suck me,” Adam told him. Dillon stole a kiss before working his way down, licking, kissing, and sucking a path toward what they both wanted most.

Adam cried out as Dillon devoured his cock in one motion. Adam loved the way Dillon’s tongue massaged him as he bobbed up and down. He sucked him fast and hard until he could feel Adam’s body start to tense, then he slowed down, licking the shaft, suckling the tip, and jacking him slowly with his hand. “God, you’re such a tease,” Adam groaned.

Dillon knew what he wanted though, he leaned over to grab the supplies out of the drawer, and came back with the lube and a condom. He handed the condom to Adam, who tossed it back on the nightstand. “We don’t need that anymore,” Adam told him breathlessly. “We got our letters in the mail earlier.”

Dillon’s face lit up. “You mean, we can…”

“Yup, no condom anymore,” Adam told him.

Dillon was so happy, he lay flat on top of Adam, kissing the hell out of him. Their cocks rubbed against each other, making Dillon so fucking ready for Adam. He searched for the lube, but found that Adam had grabbed it. “I want you, Dil.” He placed the lube in Dillon’s hand.

Dillon moved to lie down on his back, but Adam stopped him, his heart pounding in his chest. “No, I want to feel you in me.”

A look of shock plastered itself on Dillon’s face. “Really?”

“Yes, really,” Adam told him. “It’s time. I can’t possibly imagine loving you more than I love you in this moment.”

Dillon was suddenly nervous. He’d never done this before. He knew the logistics of it, but what if he hurt Adam? He slowly moved toward Adam, who had scooted up on the bed. Dillon lubed up his finger and entered Adam for the first time ever. He was amazed at how warm and tight it was. He did exactly what Adam always did for him, gradually building up to two and then three fingers.

Adam was writhing on the bed. He’d honestly forgotten how good it felt to be taken like this. “Now, Dillon,” he demanded hoarsely. “I need you to fuck me now.”

Dillon didn’t need to be told twice. He drizzled some lube on his cock and spread it around, then lined himself up at Adam’s entrance. He couldn’t believe he was about to do this. “Ready?” he asked and Adam nodded emphatically. He pushed in slowly and was instantly entranced by the feeling of being surrounded by Adam’s body.

So much raw emotion came bubbling to the surface. There was no barrier between them for the first time ever, and Dillon pushed until he was fully seated. He gave Adam a moment to adjust, which Adam was grateful for. He felt a lot of pressure, but it was a beautiful thing to watch all the emotions fight for a spot in Dillon’s eyes.

So much love shone out of them for Adam, who suddenly had no nerves left. This was his Dillon, who loved him more than anyone ever had, and Adam returned the sentiment. “Fuck, you gotta move,” Adam told him. “I fucking need you.”

Dillon pulled back and slid in again several times. It was an addicting feeling, one he needed more of and faster. He sped up his thrusts at Adam’s insistence. “Fuck, fuck, fuck,” he cried as Adam pulled his legs back toward his chest, changing the angle and making Dillon hit a spot deeper inside his body. “I’m not… going to last… much longer…” Dillon gritted out between thrusts.

Adam slid his hand between their bodies and began to jerk himself off. “Oh, holy fuck,” Adam shouted. “Yeah… fuck me harder.”

There was no possible way for Dillon to go any faster. He could feel his orgasm building quickly. “Shit, shit, shit, shit,” Adam grunted. “I’m coming.” White stripes painted his chest as Dillon hit that spot that sent him over the edge.

Adam’s ass contracting around Dillon’s cock was the most intense thing Dillon had ever felt. It felt like a thousand little lightning bolts had exploded in his body. A string of curse words flew out of his mouth as his orgasm zinged through his body, and released into Adam. He continued to thrust into Adam’s ass until he couldn’t move any more.

He flopped onto the bed, trying to avoid landing on Adam, but his arm draped over Adam’s chest anyway. They were both breathing hard, trying to catch their breath.

“Fuck, that was amazing,” Adam murmured, stroking Dillon’s arm.

“I can’t believe I just did that.” The smile on Dillon’s face was breathtaking.

They lay there for a few minutes, reveling in the post-orgasmic bliss, before Adam told Dillon, “I have one last surprise for you.”

Dillon propped himself up on his side with one hand under his head. “What’s that?”

Adam grabbed a piece of paper from off his night stand. He handed it to Dillon, who opened it immediately. It appeared to be the deed to the house but he wasn’t sure what he was looking for until…

“Wait? Why is my name on there next to yours?” Dillon’s face scrunched up, trying to understand the words.
