Oily fish such as mackerel, tuna, or sardines, which contain anti-inflammatory omega-3 fats, two to three times a week.

Apples contain quercetin, a flavanoid that has been shown to prevent the growth of libido-reducing prostate cancer cells.

Avocados contain high levels of folic acid, which helps to metabolize proteins, thus giving you more energy. They also contain vitamin B
6
, a nutrient that increases male and female hormone production, and vitamin E, both of which are vital for overall sexual function.

Bananas, which contain an alkaloid compound called bufotenine, which acts on the brain to improve mood, self-confidence, and possibly sex drive. Bananas are also rich in vitamin B
6
, which is important in the manufacture of sex hormones.

Beets. Well known for their immune-boosting and blood-building properties, beets contain nutrients that help to support the liver, which is where sexual hormones are conjugated. They are also rich in iron, calcium, and potassium needed to promote healthy circulation to the reproductive organs.

Berries, such as strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries, are sources of zinc, needed for a healthy reproductive system. Seeds, particularly pumpkin, are also a great source of zinc.

Celery, which contains androstenone, a biochemical cousin of the male hormone testosterone and believed to be the principal chemical of attraction or pheromone. The Romans dedicated celery to Pluto, their god of sex and the underworld, and crushed celery seeds (easily added to salads or breads) are said to be particularly potent.

Chiles, which may heat up your sex life, due to capsaicin—the substance that gives a kick to peppers, curries, and other spicy foods. Capsaicin stimulates nerve
endings to release chemicals, raising the heart rate and possibly triggering the release of endorphins, giving you the pleasurable feeling of a natural high.

Cinnamon. According to Chinese medicine, cinnamon is thought to tone the kidneys and produce a strong flow of energy, and it is linked to virile sexuality. Studies have also shown that the smell of cinnamon can also boost concentration and alertness.

Raw cacao, nibs, and powders—the emperor Montezuma used to drink chocolate before entering his harem, which gave rise to the belief that chocolate is an aphrodisiac. But the best thing you can do is to eat raw cacao—before the cacao is cooked and the sugar added to turn it into chocolate.

Garlic, which contains allicin, an ingredient that may help increase blood flow to the penis.

Ginger, which is one of the oldest medicinal spices in the world; it allegedly increases the blood flow to the genitals and therefore acts as an aphrodisiac.
