“Dude, go sleep it off!” He turned back and was walking away when Dan shouted:
“She’
s frigid you know, lousy in bed.” Nick stopped Jay from lunging at him.
“Jay, leave it. He’
s a drunk. Let
’
s go.” Jay looked back at him; he could deck him for what he just said. Sam was far from frigid and she was exceptional in bed.
Sam managed to finally get the gallery emptied. She locked the door and went into her office. Nick and Lisa said they would see them at breakfast. And they left.
Sam poured a glass of wine and handed it to Jay.
“I’
m so sorry, you had to witness that,” she said softly. Without looking at her he asked:
“Sam, what were you doing with a moron like that?” Tears filled her eyes. She couldn’t
remember why she ever fell in love with him. He always treated her badly. He made her feel small in front of their friends.
“I don’
t know. I just know that I
’
m so sorry you had to deal with him.” She began to sob uncontrollably. In an instant, he was standing with his arms around her. He held her close to him. He tilted her chin up and bent his head and covered her mouth with his.
Sam left early for the gallery, leaving Jay asleep. She had a meeting with the art dealer from Edinburgh and after that she was cancelling her appointments and spending the day with Jay.
When she arrived at the gallery, Edmund called her into his office.
Immediately Sam knew it was about last night and the spectacle that Dan had made of himself.
“Ed, I had no idea he was going to turn up,” she apologised profusely. He warned her that it had better not happen again.
“This is a gallery Samantha, not a boxing ring.” She left the office well and truly scolded. She was feeling a little worse for wear when her phone rang. It was Lisa.
“Hi, Hon. Are you alright Sam?” She said she was. Sam asked her how things were with her and Nick. Lisa said excitedly.
“Sam if Des meets you or calls, tell him we’
re going on a weekend shopping to Paris OK?” Sam laughed.
Already there were three people in looking at the paintings. Barbara certainly had a unique style about her. Very Kitsch, Sam thought when she first saw her work. But it was very charming.
Sam told her secretary to cancel all her meetings until Tuesday.
“I’
ve got a bit of a tummy bug.” Paula smiled and asked:
“Sam, was that GM Jay yesterday?” She blushed and Sam said:
“Yes, we’
ve been dating for a while now.” She walked with Paula to the front door.
Out on the street the air felt cold but very welcome.
Sam opened the door to her apartment silently and took off her coat. Jay was still asleep. She looked at him; he was so peaceful and looked almost like a little boy. She went to turn to leave when she felt his hand reach for hers.
She smiled down at him. His hair was disheveled and his blue eyes looked longingly at her, she could tell he was horny.
“Get in here wench.” She laughed and sat on the bed beside him. He was lying on his side supporting himself on his elbow. Sam thought to herself that it should be illegal to look as hot as he did. “Feeling better?” He asked, concerned.
“Much better,” her hand slid under the sheet and she felt him, he was hard. Sam caressed him slowly, watching his expression as she touched him. With his thumb he caressed her cheek slowly moving it into her mouth. Sam sucked seductively on it. The lightest touch he used drove her crazy with wanting. The fantasies she had about him, he fulfilled every time he touched her and when he made love to her, her world rocked.
She pulled back the sheet and gasped longingly when she saw his naked body and his maleness, hard and waiting for her. She bent her head and took him in her mouth as deep as she could. He moaned as she used her tongue to caress the length of him. Gently he pushed her head down on him and moved gently, thrusting into her mouth. He loved what she was doing to him. He couldn’t hold back, he exploded in her mouth.
Jay pulled her into his arms and kissed her forehead, she was an exceptional beauty.
“Bet you felt like a rock star just now?” He laughed Sam had a great sense of humour.
“Want to be a groupie?” He teased. She sat up and threw a cushion at him. He laughed. She felt so happy.
She went to make coffee and as she waited for the kettle to boil she was humming. The sound of her cell phone ringing made her jump.
“Hello!” She said. There was a pause.
“You’
re new boyfriend is a gay boy. Whore.” It was Dan and he sounded drunk. It was almost midday. “You
’
re a dirty tramp.” Sam turned off her phone. It was upsetting to have him call her. And to think she actually wanted to get back with him. She must have been out of her mind. Dan had always been jealous but she didn’t think that now they were divorced he would behave like this.
Sam poured boiling water into the two mugs and brought them into the bedroom. She had made up her mind. She would sell this apartment and buy a place outside of London and she would have to change her number too. It was the only way that she could keep Dan away.
“Babe that was amazing,” Jay said as she handed him the coffee. He took a sip. “Huh, how come you Brits spoil coffee with milk?” She giggled. They talked for a while; he told her the papers were full of speculation of their romance. Holding her hand to his mouth, he added.
“They are curious about the woman who stole my heart!” She looked at him. He was grinning.
“Did you tell them, it was you who stole my heart?” He laughed loudly and said ironically.
“You couldn’t
resist me, I am a rock star!” Sam stared at him. Would she have fallen so hard if he hadn
’
t been famous? Then she remembered that when she met him, she didn’t know who he was. That first night at the gallery, she fell madly in love with him. Sam never really believed in all that before. She had a strong belief that love took time.
“You’
re full of it!” She teased him.
“Not anymore, totally drained, wench.” She felt so comfortable with him.
They drove out into the countryside and had lunch in a typical traditional pub. Jay loved it. But he hated the weather. All it had done since he arrived was rain, rain and more rain.
“This is why I miss California,” He was saying as the waitress brought their meal. She looked at him and smiled. Jay winked at her. It made her day.
“We need to talk about us, Sam.” He said quite suddenly. She looked at him. There was something in his tone that she didn’t
quite know what to make of. Was he now, going to tell her it was over, because of what Dan did? Or had he met someone while she was back here?
“OK”, was all that she could utter. She was beginning to feel uneasy. Jay looked at her, he was smiling.
“The distance between us is too great to commute.”
Here it comes
, she thought. He would be a gentleman about it of course. She took a sip of water. “I can’
t be doin with seeing you every couple of months, Darlin.” Sam looked at him she wanted desperately for this moment to be something different and not what she knew in her heart, it was going to be.
“Perhaps, now is not the best time to discuss it, Jay.” Sam didn’t
recognize her own voice. She knew that they had shared a wonderful night and she wanted to savour what time she had left with him, before he told her the inevitable. So it was the cowards way out Sam thought but it was the only thing she could do right now.
“You’
re right babe,” he smiled at her and mouthed a kiss to her.
Back in London, Sam went to have a shower
Jay was on his phone. He was sitting on the window ledge.
This reminded her to turn back on her own phone.
“That was Nick,” Jay said as he hung up. She smiled over at him. “Dude is in Paris.” Sam nodded. Lisa had told her she was going but for some reason it didn’t
register with her.
“Jay you said earlier, you wanted to talk about us,” Sam said. He looked out the window down to the street below. Her heart sank. He really was about to end it.
“Sam, this is hard for me.” He looked at her. “We can’
t commute six thousand miles every other week, to see each other for a stolen week here and there.” His accent seemed stronger now. She was trying to fight back the tears. A lump filled her throat.
“I understand,” her voice quivered. Jay looked at her, his eyes twinkling. “It’
s a lot to ask of you. You
’
re so busy and all.”
“So…” He was teasing her now. “Do you think you’
d consider moving to Cali?”
What!
Did she hear him right? Was he asking her to move in with him? Dear god, she
’
d never be that lucky!
“I don’
t know, if I
’
d like all that sun, sand and-” He stopped her with a kiss.
“You know you want this rock star more than you ever wanted anything else!” He was so cocky. And he loved to tease her.
“Jay, seriously, what would I do in LA?” He shrugged and thought for a moment.
“Open your own place, like you said you wanted,” He lay back on the sofa. He had his hands behind his head. “You could do anything you set your mind to probably.” A shiver went down her spine as he said that.
She knew he was right. Of course she could make a go of running her own business. What better place than LA. She
’
d be close to him; they
’
d see each other more. There was just one thing that niggled her. Jay didn’t ask her to move in with him, to share his house in the hills. Just to move to LA. A look of disappointment must have been evident on her face but he didn’t seem to notice.
“I hadn’
t thought about moving, Jay.” She said reluctantly. Sam knew she was cutting off her nose to spite her face. But after what happened with Dan, she had taken a major blow to her confidence.
“Would you consider it, at least?” Was there pleading in his voice? She didn’t
know.
