Her heart warmed at the mention of children. “We can stay in my house until we find our own dream home.”

“On Tybee?” Micah prodded.

She laughed. “Of course. If that’s what you want.” She’d known he wouldn’t go too far away from his family. “What about your condo in Nashville?”

“Max can keep it. It was getting too crowded with both of us anyway.”

She wrapped her uninjured arm around his neck. “So you’re talking about moving in with me, but when is a girl going to get dinner and movie?”

He dropped his hands to her waist and pulled her into his lap. “Is tonight too soon?”

“No.” She tilted her head for his kiss. “I’ve waited a long time to go on a date with you, Micah Randolph.”

CHAPTER NINETEEN

The next morning, Celeste walked downstairs and into a beehive of activity. A group of men carted in flowers and large bags full of black-and-silver balloons. She paused on the top stair and cast a quick glance at Emma, who followed behind her. “What’s going on?”

Emma’s cheeks were pink with good health. The mom-to-be radiated happiness. “It appears we’re having a party.”

“A party?” Celeste murmured. She continued down the stairs, sidestepping a woman carrying an armful of groceries. “What are we celebrating?”

Emma darted past her. “I’ll let Drake answer that.”

Celeste frowned and went in search of Micah. He was out by the pool with Max and Drake, directing the setup of an expensive sound system. “What in the world is going on? Who is having a party?”

“We are,” Micah answered. “Your dress is in your closet.”

“My dress?” She gave him an odd look. “What dress?”

He shuffled past her and plugged an extension cord in the socket. “OK, test it.”

She followed him and stood in his way. “What dress?” she repeated.

“The one you bought for the anniversary celebration.”

She lifted her eyebrows. “The silver one?”

“That’s it.” He gave a thumbs-up to the guy manning the sound equipment. “One of the twin editors told me. Cindy or something similar.”

“Sydney?” she asked.

“Yeah.” He snapped his fingers. “That’s her. She told me you went to New York to order it off the runway, so I thought you’d want it.”

She scanned the pool area until her gaze landed on a banner being hung above the French doors, and she gasped. “You didn’t!”

A smile broke on his face. “It was Drake’s idea actually.”

Tears pricked her eyes. “But how? I canceled the gala.”

“You forget. Drake and his men have had access to your e-mail contacts for weeks now. It wasn’t hard to undo the cancelation. All of your guests have RSVP’d already.”

“Micah, this is too much.”

He held up a hand. Dressed in jeans and a light blue T-shirt that brought out his eyes, he appeared powerful and casual. “Consider it Drake’s gift to you. He wanted some way to repay the loyalty you’ve given him all of these years.”

“Oh.” She clapped her hand to her cheek. The celebration was still on. There was so much planning to do, hair and makeup to arrange, last-minute speeches to be written. “I should get busy.”

Micah grabbed her hand before she rushed off. “Relax. We have this. You don’t have to do anything but show up.”

She allowed him to tug her forward. “Thank you for this. I don’t know how to repay you.”

“You don’t have to.” He waggled his eyebrows. “Unless you want to make up for it in bed?”

A wide smile stretched the corners of her lips. “I’ll keep that in mind.”

“I hope it’s OK with you, but I may hijack the event to make an announcement since so many of our friends will be in attendance too.”

She nodded. “Of course. Is it anything I should be aware of?”

Micah dropped the cord he was holding and gathered her closer. “Depends on what your answer will be.”

“What answer?” The movement of his lips hypnotized her.

“Will you marry me?”

She jerked to attention. “Excuse me? Did you just ask me to marry you?”

He chuckled. “Too soon?”

She held up her hand, forefinger and thumb a millimeter apart. “Just a tad. But I know the answer.”

“You think?” He moved his lips closer.

“I’m positive,” she affirmed. She whispered, “Yes,” a moment before his lips touched hers.

“And there’s one more announcement to make.”

Celeste’s mind buzzed with happiness. “What’s that?”

“Emma and Drake are having twins.”

“Twins?” she gasped.

“They run in the family.” Micah ran a hand down her back and pressed her to the hard length of his body. “Just so you know.”

She nuzzled his shoulder. “As it happens, I have a great affection for twins.” The thought of two identical, dark-haired boys with Micah’s blue eyes delighted her. “If you’re trying to scare me away, it’s not working. I’m in it for the long haul.”

“Me too.” Micah kissed her, long enough for the crew on the patio to catcall and whistle. He broke away and grinned. “We’re in too deep to stop now.”
