Languish for you (My soulmate) (7 page)

I saw an ice-ream coffee and decided to have some ice cream. The day was as warm as you could get in the end of September and that running from my imagined guy, was really tiring.I needed something to cool and strengthen myself.

I sat over one of the free tables. A young woman soon appeared next to me, asking what I would like to have. I told her what I wanted and waited for her to return. She came back soon with my ice-cream.

I thanked her and started eating this sinful thing which could make me fat, but I didn't care. I wanted something else than Anna's salads. Although I was a vegetarian, I still ate eggs, bread, sour cream... but she thought that if I was a vegetarian, I should eat only vegetables and fruits.

I was partway to end my ice-cream when I heard a chair creaking over my table. I lifted my eyes up and saw that guy from the metro.

“Hello,” he said politely and extended his hand toward me. “I am Tobias,” he introduce himself.

Tobias, I said his name in my mind. This name seemed so familiar that I even wanted to say it out loud, to hear how it sounded when I tell it. But I killed that desire and I dropped my gaze at his hand, trying to decide what I should do with it. He saw my hesitation, but instead of taking it like an insult, he started laughing. I frowned.

“I am sorry for my behavior. I didn't want to scare you or anything.”

I nodded, accepting his apologize. He smirked, happy that I didn't kick him away from my table.

“So, what's your name?” he asked as the waitress came and asked if he wants something. He ordered the same ice-cream which I tried to overcome.

“Vanessa,” I said quietly, hoping that he wouldn't hear it and be too polite to ask me to repeat when I had already told it.

“Vanessa,” he said, letting his tongue to test how my name sounded. I felt that strange vibes again. This time it didn't freak me out like previous time, but, still, it forced me to feel uncomfortable.

“Yes, Tobias,” I said, also testing his name with my tongue. His smirk grew wider on his face, while my frown only deepened. “My name is Vanessa,” it was strange to say Vanessa and not Trinity. I loved my name more than my new one. My name was really rare, making me truly special. And Vanessa... it was often used. You could walk straight into the shopping mall and shout this name. I bet that more than ten Vanessas would appear.

“Nice name,” he said a compliment, but it didn't melt my heart.

“Thank you,” I said, looking now only at my ice- cream without any appetite.

“Sorry, if I have scared you. I didn't want to do that. I just... You seemed...” he didn't know how to explain, why he was stalking me like some kind of a creep. “I just wanted to talk with you,” he said at last a full sentence.

I ventured on lifting my eyes up and meet his stare, in which I could easily detect hunger and lust. I pressed my lips tightly.

I quickly lowered my head and put some ice-cream into my mouth that I wouldn't tell something stupid.

“Are you living in this city?” he asked, trying to create a conversation which could kill that unpleasant atmosphere around us.

“Yes,” I said, nodding. “Why do you ask that?” I asked suspiciously.

He shrugged.

“Just checking,” it sounded strange. Just checking? What that supposed to mean?

He read the question on my face.

“I am not from here. I am from
Munich
,” he explained.

“And what are you dong here?” I asked carefully.

“Studying,” he answered, sounding happier. “And you? Still at school or you go to university?”

“University,” I replied and took one huge part of my ice-cream into my mouth, hoping that I would need many minutes for it to eat in order not to tell him more facts about myself while I myself didn't know who I should be.

“What are you studying?”

“I..” and my new phone decided to interrupt our conversation.

About time, I said happily in my mind. I quickly pulled it out and read the name on the screen
Christopher
.

I lifted my eyes to meet Tobias's pouted face. He wasn't glad that someone made a decision to steal my attention.

“Hello,” I said.

“Where are you?” I heard Christopher's concerned voice.

“In the city,” I answered, trying to avoid Tobias's eyes.

“Why are you in the city? We didn't give you a permission to leave the flat. What if something could happen you you?” I heard dismay in his voice. He really was worried about me. But he had to know that eventually I would have to leave those four walls and look around this new place.

“I am a big girl, Christopher. And if it helps, I soon will come home,” I said, giving myself what I needed; a reason to run away from Tobias.

He didn't answer me immediately. It seemed that he didn't expect my suggestion to leave whatever I was doing and come back home if he was so anxious about me being safe.

“Where are you exactly?” he wanted details now.

I sighed.

“I don't know. In some kind of ice-cream coffee,” I said flatly.

“Don't move. I will come using your telephone signal. I will be there in ten minutes. Don't leave that ice-cream coffee,” he ordered me and I nodded, although it was silly. He couldn't see me.

“I am waiting for you,” I said reluctantly.

I pushed the button and the call was ended. I put the phone on the table and lifted my eyes to see Tobias's face. Now he was wearing a poker face. Great, I rolled my eyes.

“Brother?” he tried to guest.

“No.”

“Cousin?”

“No,” I shook my head.

“Father?”

“No again,” that was just stupid. What will he say next? Stepfather? Uncle? “He is my friend. At least I think he is,” I said uncertainly. Christopher said he was my protector from some kind of people. His job was to be a warrior. So, could he be my friend and not employee?

“You think?” he said bitterly. Was he jealous? No he couldn't. He didn't know me and I wasn't eager to know more about him.

“He will come to take me soon,” I ignored his question and asked the waitress to give me my bill. I wanted to be ready to leave this place at the same minute as Christopher will appear. Tobias asked his bill, too.

“Why is he coming to pick you up?” he suddenly asked me when the waitress came back with our changes.

He was intruding into thick forest in which he shouldn't have even entered. He was a total stranger for me and a stalker. Why should I tell him anything more than my name? I was really happy that Christopher will come here and bring me back home.

I gave him a dirty look. He understood the sign and leaned back against his backrest.

“Sorry. I forgot my manners,” he seemed genuinely sorry for his misdemeanor and I believed him. “I was just curious,” he added.

“He is coming to pick me up because he is afraid that I could get lost in this city. I moved here not long time ago,” I explained, proving that his apology was
accepted
. “This is totally a new place for me.”

“And I managed to scare you,” he said half laughing, half sad.

I didn't say a word to that. I could see he was feeling miserable for stalking me. And lucky for him, I wasn't a person, who would like to torment others... at least I wouldn't get any kind of pleasure telling him how freaked out I was. Plus, he was the first person who I had met in this city and I needed friends, and not the enemies.

“Everything is fine,” I put a small smile on my face.

“Really?” he doubted.

I nodded.

Before he could say something else, Christopher appeared next to me, locking his grip around my hand. I gasped. He appeared from nowhere. And that look on his face seemed like he was seeing danger only few steps away.

“Vanessa,” he said carefully in low tone. At first his eyes studied me and then slowly turned to face Tobias, who also had interesting expression on his face. Something similar to a boy's who didn't want to give up his toys in easy way; he will fight.

“This is Tobias. We have just met. Tobias, this is Christopher,” I introduced them both to each other.

“Nice to meet you,” Christopher snapped and glued his eyes at me. “Are you ready? Avery wants to see you at home.”

For some reason I doubted that she actually wanted to see me at home. There would be more precise to say she wanted to see me next to my computer.

Dammit, I always wanted to have stimulation to write, but not like this, I said in my mind. They both wanted to see me always writing, always in other world.

“Okay,” I said without any fight. I suspected that Christopher's words one way or another will be the last and it would be pointless even to try to change his mind. At least I had realized that feature of him: everyone had to obey to him.

“Good girl,” he whispered and loosen his grip a bit.

I stood up and took my purse. Tobias also stood up. He quickly threw out a paper and a pen, on which he wrote his number.

“It was a pleasure to meet you Vanessa and... Christopher. Here,” he gave me that paper.” It's my number. Call me,” he smiled and walked away reluctantly. I watched him.

“Are you okay?” Christopher turned me to meet his eyes. I nodded. “Are you sure?”

“He just managed to scare me a bit. He stalked me from the U-bahn stop,” I confessed although I didn't know why.

Christopher frowned and took with his free hand the paper from my hand. He looked at the number, before he dropped it on the table and pushed me to walk forward. I didn't resist. I walked obediently with Christopher away from the ice-cream coffee, leaving Tobias's phone number on the table. I knew that I should stop my protector and take that paper, but maybe it would be only for the best if I pretend that I had never met that guy. After all, if it was destined for us to be friends, we would meet again.

Chapter seven

Christopher opened the car door and I took a seat in the car. Without asking or ordering me, he took care with my seat-belt. At that moment I felt like a small child. But in the good way. Christopher really cared about my safety and that made me feel cherished. That was one of those feelings which were in the list I WANT TO FEEL THAT.

I gave him a smile. He gave me one back and took the driver's seat. Th
e car's engine roared and we sh
ot forward.

“Am I in trouble?” I asked the most important question after some minutes.

“Would you want to be in trouble?” he said in composure.

The Question to the question. And that tone...

Great, I said in my mind. I am in a serious trouble.

“How many days will I be punished?”

“You want to take the bull by the horns,” he said astonished. “Okay, we can do that. You left the house without
permission
.”

“But I left the note saying where I was going. Also, I took the phone,” I retort, crossing my arms against my chest. And now I felt like a child who was accused gratuitously. I didn't do anything bad. They hadn't told me that I was a prisoner in that flat. They hadn't also mentioned that it will be a misdeed to leave home.

He sighed.

“You don't get it,” he said, shaking head. “The
world has
changed. You have been dead for eighteen years. You don't know what kind of people are these days, how you need to behave and so on. You could be in such a huge trouble, because you are not patient. Your tutor is the one who will introduce you to this world. “

“So, you want to protect me from the world, not from those bad guys you are telling me over and over?”

“Vanessa,” he started, but I lifted my hands up and covered my ears with them. That was my sign that I didn't want to
hear
his stupid speech; you are writer, so write while I am a protector and I need to protect you.

Blah blah blah...

He frowned and only gripped the wheel tighter. I could see how his knuckles got white. I was pushing his buttons. I loved to do that. He looked cute when he was in a fret.

Y
ou done?” I asked, teasing him.

“You are rude,” he said, turning the wheel to the right.

“No. I am not rude. I am sarcastic and honest. Right now I am feeling like you are treating me bad. I took a phone and left the note. Okay, maybe I have slept a few decades in the coffin, but that doesn't mean that I am stupid. I could adapt to the surroundings better than people who actually live without taking a vocation in the graveyard. And if you treat me like I am a child, I will be one,” I threaten, but I doubted if he had enough brain cells in his head to really believe my words. He thought that I was just a silly little girl which he could control how he wanted. But the truth was not even close to that, I had never liked to do as I was told if I couldn't get some kind of benefit. Also, I didn't want to be controlled.

“You want to give me a challenge, little one?”

Again, little one. I hated that he called me like this.
