“Angyl, what do you mean it was your ex-husband?” Ace asked.

“OK, I am just going to start at the beginning. 7 years ago I got with this guy named David Dyer, he was so sweet in the beginning and I fell in love with him. He had the darkest black hair that under certain lights it looked blue, his eyes were the color of caramel, and his skin was tanned all year round. He had a long nose, his eyes were shaped like ovals, and he had full plump lips. He was about 6 foot tall.

Anyways about 2 years into the relationship we got engaged, I talked about kids and he told me he wasn't sure if he wanted kids. I loved him so I told him that if I did get pregnant that I wouldn't have an abortion, but that he didn't have to be there, he could leave if he wanted to. That I was going to keep the baby. Things were still going good between us and a year after we got engaged we got married. That's when things went horrible. I happened to bring up the fact that I wanted a baby and he lost it. He told me that he never wanted kids and that I had to go along with having no kids because he said so. Well I told him I did want kids and if he truly didn't want kids then we could get a divorce.

That was the first night he beat me and tortured me I was covered in bruises, burns and cuts that he burned to seal back up. I should have gone to the hospital, but he refused to take me, saying that I was his to command and that I was going to learn my place.

I had tried leaving him, but I was young and naïve. So when he said he was sorry, that it wouldn't happen again, that he loved me I believed him and stayed. It was really bad, but every time I healed. I guess I would do something he didn't like, whether it was me just talking to someone, or being out for even a minute longer than I told him I would be. He would beat me and torture me, I would no sooner heal, then he was beating me again. Well 3 years ago, about 4 months after my son was born, I had tried to leave my ex-husband. He didn’t care about our son, except as a tool to use against me to keep me in line, or to tell me to shut the baby up. He was pissed that I got pregnant as he had made it clear that he never wanted kids. Then there I go and get pregnant. He knew if he wanted me, he would have to deal with the baby.

Well one night he was using our son as leverage to keep me in line, he told me that if I ever left him he would kill me and the kid, because if he couldn’t have me no one could. That night I was packing a bag for me and my son so we could sneak out. With just a back pack full of clothes and diapers for my son and an outfit or 2 for me I decided we were going to leave, I was in the middle of getting the baby ready, and I was thinking how I didn’t know where we were going, I just knew we had to get away. I didn't know he was coming home early, you see he was always home at the same time each day, so I should have had 2 hours to get me and my son far away from him. He had been sent home early that day due to how slow it was at work. Before I knew it, I was yanked backwards by my hair. He dragged me, still holding our son, across the floor to the crib and told me to put his son down. After I did, he smacked me across the face, then told me how dare I try to leave him, that my son was his son as well, and I was not ever going to take his son from him.

He then told me that I had betrayed him by trying to leave and that he wasn’t going to tolerate it. As he hit me each time he connected he told me he had to do this because he loved me that I was his and I had to learn this or he would have to kill me. It got to where he would ask me if I loved him; I was so scared that I would say yes. He would then ask me if I was ever going to leave him again, to which I always said no. Well it got to where my face swelled up from all the hits to my face that I couldn’t talk any more, just scream and even that was muffled.

He had taken it as a sign that I wasn’t cooperating, so he wrapped his hands around my throat and started squeezing. I guess some time earlier, I don’t know how long all this took; but I guess a neighbor heard us and called the cops. The cops came busting in and pried him off of me. They have a recorded video of him saying that I was his to do with what he wanted, and that I was never going to be able to try to leave him again. The cops came in took their pictures of me and our house, checked my son out and took me to the hospital. A couple days later they asked me if I wanted to press charges I said yes. I went to court and the ruling was that he was sentenced to 25 years to life. He wasn't supposed to be able to get out for at least 25 years. If he had been released I would have received a call warning me. So I can only guess he escaped.

I finally got my divorce, he was fighting it in jail, but with why he went to jail the judge had granted my divorce. He must have gotten the papers and had been planning an escape this whole time. If he is out that means that he is going to try to kill me and his son, as well as anyone who gets in his way. Oh god Ace I am so sorry I should leave.” Angyl started balling right after telling Ace. She just wanted to curl up and hide, but she wasn’t that woman any more. She couldn't hide and she now knew how to fight some. She hadn't meant to tell him everything, it had just flowed out. She was only going to tell him the basics.

Ace could feel her pain as though it was his. One of the side effects of giving her his blood was that he would now always know if she was in pain or distress, as well as how to find her if she needed him. He then got an idea in his head.

     “Where's your son?” Ace asked

“He's with my parents visiting; he's not due back until the end of this week.”

“Well, how about when he gets back, you and him grab what you need or want, bring it here and you can both stay here, at least until you can find a new place.”

“I know that I can’t go back there to live again, so the answer is yes.”

“I will set up a room for your son for when he gets back. He's what about 3 now?”

“Yes, plug protectors will have to be put in to cover all the outlets. He will need the toddler bed that’s at our place. He will also need his clothes, as well as his toys and my pictures. Oh god this is just so much, I’m going to go lay down, I can’t think about this right now.”

“Go lay down get and get some rest, dinner is in about an hour.”

     “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome.” Ace said as she left the room. He decided to do what his sister said earlier and tell the council he found his mate. Then he decided he was going to ask the werewolves to go to her old place and grab her stuff, and bring it here. He also wanted them to catch her ex-husbands scent and try to track him. He was just glad he had made that appointment earlier to sign that vampire/werewolf alliance, which meant that if either side was in need of help they would be there no matter what. Especially with the demons coming up in the world, they had both agreed that they needed to protect the humans at all costs. An hour later things were set up with the werewolves. He and Angyl were sitting down eating dinner.

“I saw how hard it was for you to even think about going back to your old place, so I hired movers.” Ace said. He knew that as they were eating dinner, the werewolves were strategizing their plan. They were trying to figure out the best way to get the stuff she would need or want, while they get the scent to track her ex-husband.

“Oh, thank you I appreciate it. I'll pay you back. I really didn't want to go back into that place knowing that he has been there.”

“Let me please do this for you without you paying me back, I want to do this for you.”

“I really must pay you back, it's my stuff.” Angyl said freaking out a little bit. She wasn't used to anyone helping her and her son well except, Max, her boss, he helped her out from time to time, but she always paid him back. He would always try to stop her from paying him back, but she always did. She didn't know how to handle Ace wanting to help her for free.

     “We will discuss it later.”

“Alright.” Angyl sighed, due to being drained. “I think I’m going to go to bed, goodnight.”

“Night, Angyl.” Ace said knowing that he was going to do whatever he could to make sure he was able to at least do this one thing for her. As soon as he could get a hold of her ex-husband, he was going to kill him.

Chapter 5

Days went by, Angyl worked at creating Ace’s library, which was almost done. The walls painted, the shelves fixed/replaced, if there were any broken furniture it was replaced. All that was left was shelving the boxes of books that Angyl had ordered. After she would put in a full 8 hours she would go upstairs to the room next to hers, which was ironically in between hers and Ace’s, and get it set up with her son’s things.

She had his toys in toy bins, his toddler bed was set up with cars on the bedding, and his books set up on his little bookshelves. They read a book every night, then she would turn on his little night light, give him a hug and kiss, then left his room. Tomorrow was the day she was going to get him back and she couldn’t wait.

Her and Ace had been spending a lot of time together and she really liked him. Their meetings were filled with long hot passionate kisses that would steal her breath away. Every night he would leave her with one of these lingering smouldering kisses, then he would go into the woods every night. She was wondering why he would go into the woods every night so she had decided she was going to follow him tonight and find out. Maybe he had a lover and met his lover in a secret cabin in the woods which would suck, considering she was starting to fall in love with him.

Every night when she had nightmares he would be there comforting her, they joked around a lot, she found she could talk to him about anything. As she was thinking about how well they got along and her feeling like he was becoming her best friend, or that she thought she was falling in love with him, or even yet that she had a sexual pull towards him. His phone rang to snap her out of it.

“Hello?” Angyl said into the phone receiver.

     “Is Angyl Brooks there?”

“This is her. How may I help you?”

     “This is Detective Johnson.”

“How may I help you Detective?”

“We have checked into the prison break of a Mr. David Dyer, we just found out that he is no longer there, and we think that he is the one who murdered Mr. Max Wilcox. Can you please come down to the police station as soon as you’re available?”

“Yes, I’ll be right there.” Angyl said as her heart dropped. “I should be there within 40-50 minutes.”

     “Thank you ma’am.”

“You’re welcome.” Angyl said as she hung up the phone and walked out to find Ace. She found him in the kitchen cooking dinner.

“Ace, I need to go to the police station right now.”

     “Why? What happened?”

“They just called and informed me that my ex-husband really is out of prison, which I already knew, and that he might have killed my boss Max.”

“Let me turn this stuff off and then I’ll take you.”

“Thank you.” Angyl said finally breaking into tears over the news, that her boss had been murdered. She loved her boss like a father figure and it hurt her knowing that she put him in danger; just by being his employee.

Angyl and Ace walked into the police station about 40 minutes after she got off the phone with the officer and walked up to the front desk.

“Hi my name is Angyl Brooks and I’m here to see Officer Johnson.” Angyl said while still crying.

“Please wait over there while I page him.”

“Thank you.” Angyl said, as her and Ace went and sat down, they had just taken their seats when she saw a cop come through the door and head over to them.
