Taking Chances (Blackrock Book 2) (57 page)

“Bailey!
Bailey!” Paige shouts through my phone.

“No
way,” I say to her. Knox steps off the stage and pulls me up
beside him.

“Say
hello to my girl” He says into the micro phone but looks at me
then turns the mic to me I step back bumping into Max who smiles
taking my phone and setting it on his music stand. Knox and the guys
start ‘Guitar Song’ by Texas and he winks at me.

“I’m
going to kill you.” I whisper in his ear making him laugh and
shrug.

“It
will be worth it.”

I
sing the song for him my hands shaking a bit because lets face it
karaoke is different, people expect you to be crap but with a band
they expect you to possess some kind of singing voice.

Once
it’s over I smile when the crowd claps and step down waiting
for Knox to follow so I can hurt him, he smiles at me wrapping me in
his arms kissing me

“You
were great darlin’.”

Max
hands me my phone and winks. “Great job sis.”

Knox
pulls me to the bar to get a drink Chase high fives me and George
just looks at me like he is studying an alien species. When Knox
returns he kisses me again.

“I
think we might have to have you as guest singer more often darlin’.”

I
slap his chest. “No thanks babe, I like watching you.”
His lips crush mine in a heated kiss.

I fucking love you. ”He
smiles.

“I
love you too babe, but you still are getting hurt for that.”
Chuckling he rests his head against mine swaying me to the house
music.

“No
beautiful, you wont hurt me; you love me too much.” His tongue
darts out to wet his lips before taking a pull on his beer I brush my
lips lightly against his and smile watching him swallow his drink. He
hums pressing my lower back so our bodies are flush. I can feel his
erection pressing into me and his eyes glow with lust as he looks
down at my chest.

“I
wish my uncle wasn’t here,” he whispers in my ear.

“Why?”
I ask nipping his lip. Rolling his eyes, he groans pushing himself
into me.

“So
we could revisit the office.” Smirking I wrap my arm around his
neck.

“That
was fun.” He nods.

“Yes
it was darlin’, and up against the wall out back, in the
kitchen.” He smiles naming all the places we’ve had sex
in this bar.

“Wow
we really are horny,” I joke making him laugh.

“Hell
yeah, I want to rip off those jeans right now.” His lips meet
mine again and I can taste the beer when his tongue rolls over mine
heating up my own desire.

“Cut
it out.” Max bumps into us and we pull apart seeing him smile.
Knox keeps me close to conceal his hard on slipping his hand into my
back pocket he holds me in place. “Did you have fun?” Max
asks looking at me.

“Yeah
it was good but frightening. I don’t how you guys do it.”

They
both shrug. “You get used to it; we’ve been in this band
since we were fourteen.” Knox laughs finishing his beer.

“Really
that long?” I ask surprised at hearing it.

Max
nods, “Yeah” then check his watch. “Lets go, bro.”

Knox
nods at him. “Give me a minute.”

Max
pulls his eyebrows together then looks at my body position and laughs
at Knox slapping him on the shoulder. “Hurry up.”

Knox
kisses me again. “Be good, I’ll be watching.” He
winks walking over to the stage making my way back to Abbey’s
table. I smile sliding into the seat.

“Hey
you guys got engaged?” she asks looking at my left hand.

“Yeah
last week.” Lifting her glass she clinks mine.

“Congrats.”
I enjoy talking with her and Becky while we listen to the band she
tells me about her summer vacation back home in Idaho.

“How
did you meet Eric?” I ask wondering how that came about.

“Oh,
we met in here back in April but we held off until I came back.”
I glance over at Eric playing the keyboard his head down as his
fingers nimbly work the keys. Knox catches my attention and I give
him a smile. His voice carries into my heart warming me all over his
eyes smolder with lust as they slide up and down my body. I love
watching him sing, the muscles on his arms tighten and the veins in
his neck pop making me want to lick it.

“Hey
did you hear about this lingerie football team?” Becky cuts
through my fantasizing.

“No
what is it?” Pulling out her phone she opens up a page handing
it to me I read.

“Cool
you going to join?” I ask, handing it back to her making her
scoff.

“No
we are going to join.” she circles the table and I laugh.

“Hell
no I don’t know anything about football.”

Shrugging
her shoulders she looks at me. “Yeah but you can run; I see
your ass lapping that field every morning.” Abbey nods. “Yeah,
we should do this and it will be nice to take out school stress on
some one.”

I
look between the two of them my face I am sure is a mask of horror
and astonishment.

“Yes
Bailey, come it will be frigging awesome.” Abbey claps and
jumps excitedly in her seat.

Shaking
my head I laugh. “I can’t play. I am not good at that
stuff and I don’t think I’ll be able to play, I have a
mean streak.”

Becky
laughs at me. “Hell yeah, you will be able to play. Come on,
tryouts are in two weeks and we will keep it on the DL from lover
boy.” Frowning I look at her thinking that maybe Knox would
have a fit if I said I was going to play football for real.

“Give me your email and
I’ll send you all the deets.” Just to appease her I read
out my email and she sends it straight away. Abbey gives hers too.

“How
do you know about this? And how many other teams are there?”

Becky
flicks through her phone. “Okay, it’s a new league for
fun nothing serious. The organizers are going to all the local
colleges and trying to sign up a team in each one and if they get
enough then it will go ahead.”

Abbey
smiles. “We could so kick some rival ass.” I laugh at her
shaking my head.

“Man,
we haven’t tried out and your talking like we won the league.”

“Hey
think positive be positive.” She smiles.

The
music stops playing and I realize its one o’clock already. Knox
and Max head over to the bar while Eric swings a chair around
straddling it.

“What’s
up ladies?” Smiling he kisses Abbey.

“Nothing,
just talking about a new boxercise class we might join.” She
winks at us.

“Sounds
good when is it?” Scratching her head she looks at Becky.

“I
think Wednesday nights; they need so many people to sign up before it
can start.”

Knox
stands beside me holding a beer out to Eric. “Where’s Max
babe?” He nods to the door.

“Oh
I propose a toast.” Abbey winks at me. “To Bailey and
Knox, congratulations.”

Knox
smiles brushing my hair over my shoulder then we hold up our glasses,
“Thanks,” I say as we all clink them together. Eric looks
at us. “Are you having a baby?” He looks shocked and Knox
smacks him on the head.

“No douchebag.”
Holding up my hand I show him my ring. Whistling he looks up at Knox,

“Damn
bro what ever happened to ‘I’m never getting married.
Chicks are bitches.’”

He
laughs at Knox as he slides into the booth beside me rolling his eyes
at Eric.

Becky
is messing on her phone and every few minutes she pops out with. “I
just sent you guys an email.”

Knox
looks at her then at me when she says it a third time. “Oh we
are looking at a boxercise class that might be starting up.”

Knox
frowns at me brushing his knuckles over my cheek. “Boxercise,
like kick boxing?”

Smiling
I kiss his lips. “No like exercise mixed with boxing.” He
watches me for a minute.

“I
don’t want anyone hitting you.”

Becky
coughs on her drink and Abbey looks at her.

“It’s
not like that babe,” I tell him and he relaxes drinking his
beer.

Eric
looks at us, and snorts. “Dude, you’re fucking whipped.”
He laughs shaking his head at Knox.

“I
like being whipped so fuck off.” They both grin at each other
and Abbey puts her arm around Eric’s shoulder.

“Do
you like being whipped?”

His
eyes pop open as he looks at her. I laugh at him burying my face into
Knox’s shoulder shaking with laughter. Knox kisses my head then
joins in laughing at Eric who is turning a deep red color.

Knox
and Chase clear out the bar just before two o’clock I say
goodbye to Abbey and Becky. Knox and I walk home his arm around my
shoulder, “Is Max okay, babe?”

He
nods pulling me into him. “Yeah he went home to call Paige.”
Walking through campus my mind drifts to the ladies lingerie league
it sounds like fun but I don’t know if I have the time to add
something else onto my agenda right now. As it is I haven’t
been into work but my dad is cool like that; if he needs me he will
call. Maybe I should ask him about this league get his opinion.

“What
you thinking about darlin’?” Knox whispers into my ear.

“Nothing
much, my dad and work.” I shrug feeling horrible for not saying
anything but I don’t know if he will freak out or not.

“Do
you not want to work for him?” he asks looking over at me,

“Yeah
I do, I just need to talk to him about it. Maybe I’ll do
Thursday after class for a few hours.”

God
now I really feel like a liar. Knox opens the door for us letting me
step in first he flips on the light locking up behind us.

“You
want anything darlin’?” Shaking my head no, I strip off
and wash my face, brush my teeth then climb into bed.

“Where
are you babe?” I call waiting for Knox to come back.

“Hang
on,” he calls his voice muffled. Yawning he walks into the room
“Can’t a man use the bathroom round here and brush his
teeth?” He throws his t-shirt at me I put it under my head
smelling his cologne I smile.

“Now
who’s the perv?” Pulling the t-shirt away from me I
frown.

“Hey
I was enjoying that.” I tease as he climbs in beside me.

“Now
you have the real thing.” Lifting his chin, I smell his neck
melting when the scent fills my nose making me smile.

“I
love that smell; it’s all you.”

He
grins wickedly rolling on top of me pushing his erection into my
stomach. “No darlin’, this is all me.”

Chapter 32

On
Sunday afternoon the three of us arrive at dad’s house.

“Dad,
I’m home!” I yell.

Walking
through the kitchen, he looks up from the table. “Really? I
never would have guessed.” I hug him and smile.

“Oh
dad, don’t be mean.”

Standing
he looks at Knox. “Nice of you to make it today,” dad
teases Knox who cringes.

“Sorry
Frank.”

My
dad laughs and hugs him. “It’s okay, son.” Dad
grabs Max too; he treats them as if they were his sons putting them
to work on the grill and loading up the table.

I
pull my dad into the kitchen and close the patio door he frowns at
me.

“You
okay, sweetheart?” Nodding we move to the far end of the
kitchen.

“Yeah,
I just wanted to run something by you to get your opinion.”

He
nods and listens to my story about the football league. “What
does Knox think?” Grabbing his arms I shake him.

“Dad
that’s why I am asking you before I tell him.”

Laughing
he hugs me. “Do what you feel you need to, sweetheart. You have
had a hell of a year so maybe some fun is overdue.”

Knox
taps on the door before opening it. “Grill is ready,” he
says looking at me. Dad brings the meat from the fridge and I make
the salad. “Need help darlin’?” Looking up, I smile
at him.

“Maybe
drinks, ask dad.” Nodding he returns to the patio. Bringing out
the salad I put it onto the table and sit down beside Knox.

“Oh
Bailey two packages came for you yesterday; they’re in the
hall.” I nod, too lazy to get them right now.

We
have a good lunch until Knox asks about the court case. Dad looks
worried.

“It’s
okay for now, but the criminal trial starts in November, so you may
all be called to testify.” He looks at each of us. Deciding I
don’t want to talk about this I go in search of my packages
finding two large boxes, lugging them into the kitchen I open the
tall white one finding another bunch of dead roses.

My
blood boils. “Motherfucker!” I yell, kicking the box
across the room dad walks into the kitchen looking at the mess.

“Bailey,
what on earth..”

Looking
down he sees the roses. Knox curses grabbing me but I shrug him off,
too pissed off for comfort. Picking up the box I walk out to the
trash can and dump it inside kicking the can a few times for good
measure, anger simmering I walk back inside grabbing the knife I open
the second box marked from Anderson cosmetics.

I
read the note from Cindy, apologizing for missing my birthday but
they were out of the country. Lifting my head I see three pairs of
eyes on me.

“You
guys can go back outside, I’m fine.”

Dad
grabs them ushering them outside he cracks out the beers opening the
packages I find nearly all of my favorite products and my heart
hurts. These people always treated me like their own daughter.
Reaching the end of the box, I find another flat box pulling it out I
smile seeing Cindy’s handwriting on the top in black marker
‘surprise’.

Excited
I open it finding a large brochure with a picture of Summer staring
back at me; her face smiling as the blue water glistens behind her. I
know this picture it’s when they went to Barbados for vacation
two years ago. Reading the brochure it’s for a new line called
Summer and it’s a bath and body-line. I keep reading looking at
the products on offer and find at least one of each in the box with a
smaller picture of Summer on each one.
