accident, which killed seven astronauts. Her work has also been published in magazines such as
National Geographic
and
Astronomy.
A native of Nashville, she began her career as a feature writer at the
Tennessean
newspaper there. Twice nominated for the Pulitzer Prize, she is the recipient of honors including the National Headliner Award for Best Domestic News Reporting for coverage of the war in Vietnam and other subjects, and the David N. Schramm Award for journalism in the field of high-energy astrophysics, given by the American Astronomical Society.
