“Violet,” he shouted as I walked down the sidewalk. I stopped and he ran up to me.

“You know I’m leaving tomorrow, I would really like to see you again tonight,” he said.

I held my breath then exhaled lightly. “Chain, I don’t know if that’s a good idea.”

A lost, disappointed look filled his eyes. “Please,” he whispered. I could see the vulnerability in his eyes, the same look he had when talking about the deaths of his sister and mother.  I wanted to say no, this was going too far. Being with him two nights in a row had to break some sort of rule in this crazy arrangement we had. But I could tell if I did that right now, it would crush him and I didn’t have the heart to do that.

I paused for a moment, before answering, “Okay.”

He instantly perked up. “About seven? I’ll make dinner.”

“That would be great.”

He reached into his pocket and slid out a card, holding it out to me. “Take this, it’s the key card to the elevator and my apartment, let yourself in when you come tonight.”

I took it from him. “Okay.”

He kissed me on the cheek. “See you tonight.” Then he walked back to the house.

***

I stood nervously near the elevator of Chain’s apartment, sliding the key card into the slot. The elevator dinged as the door opened. I was nervous but I didn’t know why, I was just seeing Chain.

The elevator doors opened and I walked up to the front door of his apartment, sliding the key card into the door, then pushed it open.

It was dark inside. The only light was a small table lamp dimly lit on one of the side tables. I called out to Chain as I stepped into the living room.

“I’m right here,” he said as he walked out to the living room. I turned and he was clad only in a white towel that draped from his hips. I took all of him in, my eyes slowly easing down every inch of his perfectly toned body. I could feel my nipples stiffen.

“I can see you’re happy to see me,” Chain said as his eyes stalked my breasts. I flushed crimson.

He let out a laugh as he clutched my hand. “Come on, your bath is ready.”

We walked into the bathroom and he immediately began undressing me.

“So what did you do when you left Callie and David’s?” he asked as he slid my skirt down.

I stepped out of it, leaning my hand on his shoulder. “Eh, I cleaned up my house and did a little laundry.”

“I see,” he responded as he slid my shirt off, then turned my body, unhooking my bra.

I stepped into the bath and sat down in the warm water. Chain removed his towel then stepped in behind me. He pulled my back to his chest.

“So what are you going to do while I’m gone?” he asked as he grabbed the washcloth from the side of the tub.

“I don’t know, I was thinking about picking up random men and taking them home to have sex with me,” I responded jokingly.

He chuckled before saying, “You’re a she-devil.”

“In all seriousness, I was thinking about doing some shopping at that mall of yours.”

“Well, if you do let me know. I can make sure that you get a discount at every store, if you would like,” he said as he glided the washcloth down my back.

“What girl doesn’t like saving money?” I responded.

He ran the washcloth down my side. “I’ll call up tomorrow and make sure I leave your name with all the shop owners.”

“Thank you.”

“It’s my pleasure.”

I smirked before saying, “So are we going to have dinner first or sex?”

He shook his head. “Is that all you want from me, my penis?”

“Of course not, I want dinner too!” I exclaimed jokingly.

He stood up. “Come on, I think we are done soaking,” he said as he held out his hand. I took it and we stepped out of the bathtub. He wrapped a towel around his waist, then one around my shoulders, and guided me to the bedroom.

He gestured to the bed as he removed the towel from my shoulders. “Lie down, I’ll dry you off.”

I grinned as I lay on the bed. This was more like it.

He started at my knee, smoothing the towel across my skin. He lifted my foot, and began caressing the pad, then slid my big toe into his mouth, sucking it. A jolt of sensation shot straight to my most intimate spot.

Toe by toe, he sucked and licked and I felt like I would combust as every touch of his lips, lick of his tongue brought me to the edge.

“Please, Chain,” I pleaded.

He smiled as his tongue slid up the inside of my thigh. “Patience, beautiful, patience.”

Patience. I bit my lip with frustration. “Chain.” Seriously, what was the point? He knew I was a sure thing, why did he have to continue on with all this touching, licking, sucking—could we just get down to business?

But he ignored me and pushed my knees up. I could feel the heat of his breath as his head slid in between my legs. Good Lord! His tongue grazed my entrance and I arched my back as his teeth nipped and teased at my folds. He sank a finger inside of me, then two, stretching and pulling.

“You are so ready, baby, so ready,” he mumbled. Then just as I felt as if it couldn’t feel much better, I felt the soft tip of his tongue.

“Oh fuck,” I blurted out in ecstasy.  He circled his tongue inside of me and I lost all sense of time and place, feeling only sensation as his tongue continued its delicious assault. He took turns with his tongue and fingers, pleasuring me, until my body shattered into a millions pieces, and I found my release.

My breathing was so sparse, I had to open my mouth to suck in air. I felt the chill of the cool air as Chain left the bed. Where was he going? I closed my eyes, trying to calm my pulsing heart. I felt his body slide on top of me, his lips softly caressing the skin of my neck. He slithered upward and as his face moved closer to mine, I smashed my lips against his. He pulled away, a look of irritation spreading across his face.

“No, Violet,” he scolded.

I blinked with confusion. “You don’t want to have sex?”

He shook his head. “No, not this way.”

I felt the blood leave my face. “You don’t want me?”

He laughed as he pressed a gentle kiss to my lips. “Of course I want you, what man wouldn’t? But tonight, I would like to do things a little differently, a little slower.” Before I could comment he pressed his lips to mine.

His hand slid to the curve of my back and he pulled me into a deep embrace. My eyes met his and they gleamed with a softness and gentleness that took my breath away. He smiled as he slid his finger down my cheek, across my chin, before slipping back into a kiss. I didn’t know if it was the way his lips softly touched mine, or if it was the loving way he had looked into my eyes, but everything about Chain at that moment captured my heart.

He placed feather kisses across my collarbone, the curve of my neck, my jaw, and then claimed my lips. The kiss was soft, slow and lingering.
As our lips parted our tongues met in sync. I held him close, wanting to remember his strong shoulders, the touch of his skin to mine. His hand caressed the inside of my thigh and I moaned, then he curled me close to him and kissed me with a passion that made my heart skip a beat.

As our bodies slowly moved against each other, I felt something reaching deep inside of me, gripping at my heart, overwhelming my emotions, causing tears to stream uncontrollably from my eyes. Chain lifted his head, staring into my eyes, and I saw he was mirroring the same feelings as I.

As he circled his hips slowly, we found our release together and I exhaled sharply. That familiar feeling filled me, that stabbing, aching feeling.

It surrounded me.

Engulfed me.

Suffocated me.

I turned away from Chain, hugging my pillow, my mind drifting off into a pit of despair. As much as I tried to fight it, to run from it, there was no denying that I was falling hard for Chain Alexander and there was no way of escaping.

***

I woke in a panic. I stared at the time and it was already 8:30—I had slept in. Slowly I removed Chain’s limbs from where they were wrapped around me and slid out of the bed, rushing out the door.

I rushed into my townhome frantically; it was already 9:00 and I was extremely late. My father was going to have a panic attack! He hated when I was late. I showered then threw my hair up in a half-assed bun and slid on a simple gray dress and flats and made my way out of my apartment.

Thankfully, I made it into my office without running into my father. I was not in the mood for one of his lectures, not today. I had too much on my mind—actually I had one thing on my mind: Chain.

I was having a hard time dealing with my feelings. Love, a wonderful but dreadful feeling, as Vince would say. How did I let this happen? How could I allow myself to feel for another man?

“You want to explain this?” Victor asked as he walked into my office with Vince, followed by a man carrying a large bouquet of purple roses, arranged strategically between clouds of baby’s breath.  I stood up and walked over to the man, gesturing to him to place the flowers on my desk. Vince reached into his pocket and handed the man a tip as I grabbed the card from the bouquet.

Sorry, they were fresh out of violet
s
Missing you already.

I began to feel choked up. When did he have the time to do this? I had been with him all night and into the early morning. Violet roses? He had put thought into it—a lot.

I inhaled the scent of the flowers and sighed. Harrison never believed in sending flowers, he felt it was a waste of money. He didn’t have a romantic bone in his body, however I could see Chain did.

“So?” Victor asked. I turned and he was leaning against the wall with his hands folded. How could I tell my overbearing brother they were from Chain, a man known for his womanizing ways?

“They’re from Corey, aren’t they?” Vince asked.

“Yes, they’re from Corey,” I responded.

Victor walked up to me. “Corey who?” Victor questioned.

I stayed mute and Victor leaned closer to me. “Who the hell is Corey?” he shouted.

“Stop shouting at me, it’s just some guy I have been seeing,” I murmured.

Vince walked closer to me. “So it seems you and this Corey guy are getting pretty serious.” Vince smirked.

I rolled my eyes. “We’re friends.”

Victor furrowed his eyebrows as he ran his finger across one of the petals. “Friends, huh? These flowers cost him a pretty penny. A guy wouldn’t send flowers like this unless—” He gasped. “Fuck, Vi, are you sleeping with this guy!” he exclaimed.

I blushed. “It’s none of your business, Victor.”

He placed his hands flat on my desk. “I’m making it my business. I want to know now, who the fuck is this Corey guy and is he getting busy with my sister!”

Vince patted Victor on the back. “Calm down, Victor.”

“Calm down, Vince? Some stranger is tagging our sister and you want me to be calm?” Victor scowled at me before saying, “Tell me who he is, Vi.”

“No.”

He grunted. “Fine, then I’ll find out on my own. But I’m telling you this, Vi, when I get a hold of this Corey guy, I’m busting his face open.”

My eyes thinned. “You wouldn’t dare.”

“Oh, I would. I won’t have some guy using my little sister,” he grumbled.

“He’s not using me!” I protested.

He shook his head. “If he’s not then why can’t you tell me who he is? Why haven’t you brought him around?”

I folded my arms. “Because I don’t want to,” I said, lifting my nose, snubbing him.

He glowered at me. “Why not?”

“I have my reasons,” I retorted.

We both silently glared at each other.

Vince walked closer to Victor. “Come on, Victor, we have to get to work.”

Victor pointed his finger at me. “You tell that Corey guy I’m looking for him.” Then he turned and walked towards the door.

I stuck my middle finger up at him and he growled as he left my office.

I sat down on my chair, trying to find a way to wish my brother Victor away. Why couldn’t he be like Vince, more understanding?

My office phone rang and I picked it up.

“Violet Townsend,” I answered.

“Violet, it’s Callie.”

I sat back on my chair, relaxed. “Hey, Callie, what’s going on?”

“I was seeing if maybe you wanted to do dinner. With David out of town, I really don’t feel like staying in the house all night by myself.”

“Sure, that would be great.”

“I was thinking Vinio’s, what do you think?”

“Sounds like a plan to me.”

“Great, say 6:00?”

“Perfect, I’ll meet you at Vinio’s at six.”

“Great, see you then.”

I hung up my cell, placed it on my desk and turned to my computer, starting my day.
