Such a wonderful feeling of love was being shared in this room. Love that surrounded them and wrapped them in a warmth of protection and promise. Jana had never experienced anything like it before, although her own congregation in Spokane had tried hard to offer it.
By watching Kevin’s example, Jana knew that Rob had been wrong. There was nothing positive about keeping people at arm’s length. God intended for His children to help one another, to bear one another’s burdens.
The pastor offered a prayer of consecration and blessing for Meira, and Jana could only rejoice in the moment.
Things will be different,
she promised her sleeping child. She would never leave Meira to fend for herself—she would always make sure she had the love and hope she needed for the future. And when the time came, and Meira wanted to know about her father, Jana knew God would teach her the right words to say.
“Amen,” Kevin said, and Jana couldn’t help but turn to meet his smiling face.
