Bayden shrugged. Silence fell over them.

“If you have any questions about anything Sal said, you don’t need to wait for an invitation to ask them,” Axel offered.

There was obviously something, but it took Bayden a little while to get the words out. “She said your family is Catholic, sir.”

“That’s right.”

“They don’t like wolves, sir,” Bayden blurted out. “I mean, even compared to other humans—even compared to cops.”

Yes. Axel remembered that much from Sunday school. “True. But they’re not huge fans of gay men either.”

“You asked me if my family minded me liking men, sir,” Bayden remembered.

Axel took a deep breath, but if he wanted Bayden to tell him things, he couldn’t skirt the topic. “Sally has no problem with me being gay. The rest of my family weren’t thrilled when I came out. It could have been a lot worse. I was fifteen. They didn’t throw me out of the house or anything. Sally stays in touch and keeps me up to date with family gossip. The rest of them, they just…pray for me.”

“Praying is a bad thing, sir?”

It was such a tentative question, refusing to answer it would be like a slap in the face.

Axel pointed to the dresser just visible through the door leading into the living room. “Top drawer on the right.”

Bayden opened it. “Prayer beads?” he hazarded.

“Rosaries. My mother sends me a couple every year. Birthday, Easter, Christmas. She wants me to come back to the church and save my immortal soul. She thinks I toss them all.”

“But you don’t, sir.”

“No, I don’t.” He stepped up behind Bayden and nudged the drawer closed, putting them firmly back out of sight. “She means it for the best. They all do.”

Bayden turned within the circle of his arms. He stared at Axel’s shoulder for several seconds, obviously out of his depth and not sure what to say. Axel wasn’t sure what to say either.

Finally, Bayden met Axel’s eyes. “I’m glad you like men, sir.” He sounded very earnest about that.

It would be rude to laugh at Bayden’s attempt to make him feel better. It was far better to kiss him instead.

Chapter Eighteen

“I made you a promise last night, didn’t I?” Axel said as they retreated to his flat at the end of the night. Rather than order Bayden to leave his clothes by the door, he led the way straight into the bedroom before turning to face Bayden.

Bayden shrugged, putting a lot of effort into showing that he didn’t consider that promise important.

Axel chuckled. “Your memory’s better than that, pup.”

Bayden swallowed. “You said I’d have a chance to come, sir.”

“I did. And I always keep my promises.”

“You don’t need to—”

Axel silenced him with a shake of the head. “Promises are important.” He caught the hem of Bayden’s jumper and lifted it up. Bayden co-operated, raising his hands so the soft grey fabric could pass over his head. Axel dropped the sweater on the end of the bed and moved on to the rest of Bayden’s clothes.

Bayden soon stood naked in the middle of the room.

Axel stepped back. “Have you ever been tied up when it wasn’t for a bet—just because you wanted to be?”

Bayden shook his head. “But it’s not a problem, sir.”

“Do you like the idea?”

Bayden looked down, unsure again.

“Maybe it’s not something you’ve thought about liking or disliking?” Axel suggested. “Proving the point was the only important thing. How you felt was irrelevant.”

Bayden nodded his acceptance of that possibility.

“Tonight, I want you to think about if you like it or not,” Axel told him.

“Yes, sir.”

“Do you remember your safe word?”

Bayden tensed up.

Axel mentally counted out the seconds while he waited to see if Bayden would try to refuse one again.

“Yes, sir.”

Axel nodded his approval.

When Bayden hesitated, Axel waited him out.

“Are you going to use the bed, sir?” Bayden finally asked.

It wasn’t quite the question Axel expected. “Yes. Do you have an objection?”

Bayden shook his head. “Maybe I should move my clothes out of the way, sir?”

“Go ahead.” Axel went across to the wardrobe where he kept his personal toy collection.

By the time he turned around, cuffs in hand, Bayden had everything folded and put away, and he seemed far more relaxed. Axel couldn’t help but smile.

“Sir?”

“You may be the only sub I’ve ever known who doesn’t need to be ordered to keep things clean and tidy.”

Bayden looked down.

“That’s a good thing,” Axel added, in case that wasn’t as obvious as it should be. He went over to the bed and fastened restraints to the headboard. “Come here, pup.”

With Bayden’s co-operation, it didn’t take Axel long to have him stretched out on the bed, his wrists bound to the headboard.

Bayden’s chest rose and fell as he took a deep breath.

It was hardly the first time he’d been tied up. Axel had seen him restrained often enough himself. But this time was going to be different. He was determined about that.

“Move about and get a feel for them,” Axel said.

Bayden looked up at his wrists. In the bets, his aim had always been to remain still and unaffected, not to do anything that would make the other guy think he was getting to him. Now, he tugged gently at the restraints, working out how much slack there was, how much range of movement he was left with. It was the first time Axel had ever seen him moving in his bondage.

“Good or bad?” Axel asked, sitting fully clothed on the bed next to him.

Bayden remained silent but it seemed less like a refusal to answer and more like he didn’t know the answer.

“You just think about it, okay?” Axel leaned over and brushed their lips together. Bayden parted his lips, welcoming the kiss, relishing each touch.

When Axel straightened up, he ran his gaze over Bayden’s body from top to toe. He was all laid out for him, so perfect, and all his. Axel smiled to himself as he wrapped his hand around Bayden’s erection.

Bayden gasped, every muscle in his body tensed. It was a pretty sight, but a little too close to the way Bayden had controlled himself during bets with other men.

“Relax.”

Bayden nodded that he’d heard.

Axel moved his hand slowly around Bayden’s cock, just passing the time while he let Bayden try to obey his last order.

“Do you remember what I said last night about who controls when you come and what that means?” Axel asked, after a few minutes.

Bayden nodded.

Axel gave him a little while longer. Instant expertise wasn’t to be expected. Axel didn’t even expect instant enthusiasm, but Bayden didn’t make any noticeable attempt to relax or hand over control. If anything, he rushed toward safe ground and the kind of fake submission he’d displayed within his bets.

Axel raised an eyebrow at him, but Bayden’s eyes were closed. He was retreating further into bad habits by the second.

There was an easy cure for that. Axel leaned over and calmly took the tip of Bayden’s cock into his mouth.

The cuffs rattled as Bayden thrust upward into Axel’s mouth. It was easy to ride out his actions. Bayden lifted his head and glared down at him in confusion—his eyes open very wide, his lips parted with shock. Axel dipped his head and let a little more of Bayden’s shaft slip past his lips. A spurt of pre-cum landed on his tongue, and Axel’s own cock hardened inside his jeans.

Bayden bit his bottom lip and squirmed on the bed, obviously struggling to hold himself back. Confident that he now had Bayden’s complete attention, Axel bobbed his head, taking Bayden almost to the base before sliding up until only the tip of Bayden’s cock remained between his lips.

He was pretty sure he could read Bayden well enough to have a good chance of stopping before Bayden actually came. And, if he read him wrong, it was hardly the end of the world. Bayden had been right about one thing—sometimes the only thing that mattered was making a point to someone—and making it very clearly.

Bayden closed his eyes. His hands formed into fists above his head as he fought against his own pleasure. He was good at blocking everything out in a bet, but that was about ignoring pain and fear. Axel was sure that Bayden’s ability to ignore pleasure was far less well developed.

Bayden might have learned how to give a blow job that bordered on the sublime, but Axel had no doubt that he’d been whipped more often than he’d been sucked off.

Caught off guard, surrounded by unfamiliar sensations, Bayden simply didn’t have the skills to hold himself completely in check. Minutes ticked past. Bayden rushed past what Axel had guessed him capable of, but the strain was telling. Axel’s own cock ached as he watched Bayden struggle for control.

Bayden gasped for breath. He whimpered and pulled at the cuffs. He tossed his head back and forth on the pillow as he struggled to display a brand of control he’d already been forbidden from practicing. He bucked his hips, pushing his cock deeper into Axel’s mouth.

He was so close. A few more seconds would have him coming in Axel’s mouth.

Bayden opened and closed his lips, but no words emerged. Bayden tried again and finally found syllables.

“Stop!” Panic filled the word.

Axel immediately lifted his head. “It’s okay.” He placed his hand flat on Bayden’s chest. “You’re okay.”

Bayden’s whole body shuddered as he panted for breath.

“Look at me. Look me in the eye.”

Bayden obeyed. Axel held his gaze. “You’re fine.” Slowly, as Bayden stared into Axel’s eyes, he caught his breath.

“Do you want to say your safe word?” Axel asked.

Bayden shook his head. “I…” There was still too much panic in his voice.

“You’re okay,” Axel moved up the bed and settled his other hand on Bayden’s cheek. “Whether you say it or not, nothing will happen until I know exactly what you want.” That was important. The sooner he could get that idea permanently welded into Bayden’s mind the better.

Bayden stared up at him. His heartbeat was still rapid against Axel’s palm, but he’d regained his outward calm.

“Do you want me to untie you?” Axel asked.

Bayden shook his head again. “You said…. I mean… I don’t…If you hadn’t stopped, I’d have come,” he whispered.

“And you didn’t want to?” Axel asked.

Bayden frowned. “You didn’t give me permission.”

“You don’t need permission. I told you that last night.”

Bayden shook his head. “You don’t need to change the rules. I can control—” He flinched at the realisation that that statement wasn’t entirely correct.

“Could you learn as much control as any dom, wolf or human, might ever wish you to display?” Axel filled in. “Yes. I’ve never doubted that. I could train you. I’ve done it with other subs. It’s not that difficult, but I’m not interested in teaching you that particular skill.”

Bayden blinked up at him. Perhaps it wasn’t fair to expect him to fully understand new ideas when he was still on the edge, but they could make a start.

“Learning to control your own orgasms and wait for permission is one thing, pup. Most subs can do that. But learning how to really give up complete control of your orgasms, that’s something else. I wouldn’t even bother trying it with most men.” He studied Bayden for several long seconds. “You can do it. It won’t be easy for you, but I can take your submission that deep.”

Bayden swallowed.

It was the tiny cue that Axel had been waiting for. The idea that he was being asked to do something harder than Axel originally intended would be the thing that sealed the deal.

“Do you want that?” Axel asked.

Bayden nodded rapidly. He licked his lips. “Yes, sir.”

“Then from this moment on, you need to accept that you don’t get to choose when you come. I make that decision. If I want you to last until I’m ready to come at the same time as you, you will. If I don’t want you to get off at all, you won’t. And if I want you to come within the first minute, that’s my choice as well.”

The first two possibilities didn’t raise a flicker of response. The third option made Bayden squirm, but he didn’t actually protest.

“I think you’d like showing off for me, proving that you can hold back through hour after hour of teasing, wouldn’t you? But proving that I can make you come in a few seconds—not letting yourself hold back simply because you don’t have permission to exercise that kind of control, that’s harder.” Axel moved his hand down to Bayden’s cock and stroked him, slow and easy, as he spoke. “Holding back is all about having control, but you’re not in control now, Bayden. I am. You are my sub, my pup. If I want you frustrated, I can have that. If I want you vulnerable and off balance with a blush staining your cheeks, that’s my right too.”

On cue, Bayden blushed. He’d never done that during a bet. Axel smiled, more certain than ever that he’d picked the right course of action.

“You won’t get in trouble for coming at any point, whatever we’re doing. But I want you to be very clear on this, Bayden. I don’t want you trying to control yourself when we’re together—not in any way. If you try, I’ll step in and I’ll stop you—every time.”

Bayden nodded. His breathing was getting ragged again.

“When we’re apart, that’s different.”

Bayden blinked at him. Axel stilled his hand, giving Bayden space to think a little more clearly.

“When you’re not with me I still expect complete self-control. You don’t get to sneak away and jack off. If you do, I will find out, and you will be punished.”

Bayden shook his head. “I…I wouldn’t do that, sir.”

It was true. Bayden had far too much pride to sneak some extra pleasure for himself. Axel tightened his grip around Bayden’s shaft, making him whimper and rock his hips. “That’s a good boy. If you continue to be good, I might let you jack off now and again, when I’m there to watch.”

Bayden nodded his acceptance of the possibility.

“Do you understand the rules? If you have any questions about them, now would be the time.”

“What if…?” Bayden turned his face away and closed his eyes.

“Go ahead,” Axel prompted.

“What if you don’t think it should, but it does?”

“If I don’t expect something to make you come, but it does?” Axel checked. He already knew the answer, but he took some time to simply enjoy the feel of Bayden’s cock in his hand and pretended to give the matter considerable thought, just so Bayden would know that he was serious.
