Broken (The Onyx Wolves Book 2) (7 page)

He smiles sweetly as his hand cups my cheek. “I love you too, Sweetheart. I really hope we can figure this out so I don’t have to see you in pain anymore.”

With that he kisses my forehead while taking my hand in his before leading me through the house to the front where my old bike was waiting for us.

He gets on first and I slide on behind him before wrapping my arms around his waist.

“You ready?” He grunts back to me as he starts up the engine.

“I’m ready.” I reply loudly.

With the rev of the engine we take off down the road and towards the unknown.

And if I had any luck we would find Blue.

And if things went my way I might be able to end this dream cycle that forced me to watch everyone I loved die.

Ending it would give Gage the end he needed and the peace that I longed for.

Coming to terms with his death had been rough but I was more than ready to move forward with my life.

I was ready to start over.

And my heart was ready to fall in love again.

A
few hours fly by until we find ourselves pulling up to the front of Pop’s hotel

I hop off of the bike and glance around the parking lot.

“Well, I’ll be damned. Is that you Parker? What are you doing here?” Pops laughs suddenly as he walks out to greet me.

He holds his arms out to me and I quickly go towards before wrapping my arms around him.

“We came to visit and to ask you some questions.” I reply as I step back from his embrace.

Pops nods his head. “Ask whatever you need to, Parker. You know I’m always here for you.”

I nod and smile grateful for him and his help.

Someone yells from the front of the hotel and Pops groans. “Can your questions wait until later? I’ve got matters with the Hunters that I have to deal with.”

I nod. “It can wait.”

“Do you need a place to stay?” Pops then asks quickly.

“If it’s not too much trouble, I’d like to stay here.” I reply.

“Okay, I have a bed free if you two don’t mind sharing. The rest of the rooms are filled with Hunters.” Pops then states.

It was just like in my dream.

My voice gets lodged in my throat as I lose all train of thought.

“So, no playing wolf, that’s no fun.” London jokes.

“Don’t play games, unless you want to be digging a silver bullet out from your ass.” Pops replies seriously.

London nods as he goes serious. “We’ll be careful.”

“Alright, give me a minute and I’ll take you to your room.” Pops grunts before disappearing into the hotel’s main entrance.

We wait patiently outside until Pops returns and then waves us to follow him.

As we near the very same door from my dream I freeze in place.

London glances back at me curiously as Pops opens the door. “What’s wrong, Sweetheart?”

“This was all from my dream. It’s going exactly the same way.” I whisper softly.

“Just let it go the way it should then.” London replies gently.

I nod and move forward reluctantly.

Once inside I look around and then sit down on the edge of the bed that I knew all too well.

London and Pops talk at the doorway for a few moments until London steps inside the room with me and Pops leaves.

“Pops needs me for a few things. Will you be alright if I leave you alone for a little while?” London questions as he brushes my hair behind my ear.

I nod but remain silent.

I couldn’t answer him honestly, I didn’t know if I would be alright or not.

Slowly London walks to the door and with one glance back to me he walks out leaving me alone.

Pulling my bag off of my shoulders I place it on the floor before lying back on the bed so I could stare up absently at the ceiling.

When voices suddenly sound just outside the door I jump up from the bed and run into the bathroom.

I wasn’t ready to face him.

Not yet.

I needed to gather the courage to face him.

The door to the outside opens and I watch through a crack in the bathroom door as three Hunters walk in.

Blue was there just as I remembered him.

“It looks like you’ve finally gotten a roommate, Blue.” One of the others grunts as he points out my bag on the floor next to the other bed.

“I wonder who it is.” The other Hunter states curiously.

Blue shrugs. “Whoever it is, they better not snore.”

The three men burst into laughter and I take a deep breath before letting it out so that I could walk out and face them.

After a moment I reach my shaky hand to the door handle and twist it before walking out into the room.

All three men turn to look at me with surprise.

“How did you get roomed with the hottie?” One of them blurts.

Blue slaps him across the chest and then moves forward with his hand held out to me. “I’m sorry about my friend. He really doesn’t know when to keep his mouth shut.”

He smiles and two dimples wink out at me.

My heart skips a beat at just how much he looked like Gage, but yet he was so different.

“I’m Blue, and these two idiots behind me are Matt and Lake.” Blue introduces himself and the others.

Instead of taking his hand in mine I decide to get the whole introduction of what I was out of the way.

I tilt my head and brush my hair aside to expose my neck.

All three men curse and then back away from me.

“How the hell did you get in here, wolf?” Blue bellows as he pulls a knife from the back of his jeans.

“I’m a friend.” I sigh and then sit down on the edge of my bed.

“Hunters aren’t friends with wolves.” Matt spits out.

“You are if I’m from the Onyx pack.” I reply.

Matt and Lake quickly share a look behind Blue’s back before turning their attention back to me.

Just like in my dream the door bursts open suddenly and in storms London. He gets into Blue’s face and I’m forced to make a split second decision.

I rush forward and squeeze my way between them before they could harm each other.

With my back to Blue I place my hands against London’s chest and push him back gently. “He’s not going to hurt me, London. All I was doing was explaining who I was. I scared them that’s all, that’s why they have their weapons drawn.”

London snarls and then reaches down by my side before yanking Blue’s knife from his hand. “You need to be careful, Parker. We can’t trust any of these Hunters, even Pops warned you of that fact.”

Holding out Blue’s blade to me London takes a step back.

I take it from his hand before he stomps into the bathroom.

Letting out a long breath I close my eyes before turning to face Blue.

His eyes are hard as he looks down at me with disgust. “I didn’t need you to protect me from him. I don’t fear what you are.”

I snort. “You should fear us. We are alphas which make us far more dangerous than you’ll ever know.” I warn and then hand his knife back to him.

He takes it and then moves back for a moment.

Before I can even register what’s happening Blue lunges forward with his knife held high.

I grab his arm and snarl as I hold him back from plunging his weapon into my shoulder.

My heart pounds in my chest as we stare into each other’s eyes.

Controlling my change I allow my claws to form and then squeeze his arm just enough for the sharp tips to pierce his skin.

“Don’t mess with an alpha.” I growl out in warning.

Before I get the chance to do any more claws dig deep into the base of my neck and London pulls me back.

“Enough of these games both of you.” London demands.

I fight against London’s grasp until he moves his claws slightly and my body goes limp.

“What did you just do to her?” Blue grunts as he turns his anger towards London. “Did you hurt her?”

“I didn’t hurt her I just used my claws to control her so she would stop fighting with you.” London replies truthfully.

Blue glances down at his arm and the blood that was dripping down before looking back at us curiously. “Is that what she was trying to do to me?”

London snorts in amusement. “She was trying to teach you a lesson. Even if she wanted to she couldn’t use her claws to control a human. We can only use it on wolves and only alphas can do it.”

“You sure are giving away a lot of our secrets, London.” I clip out.

Leaning in close London whispers into my ear. “I was wrong before, no matter what he knows he isn’t going to actually hurt you. He was just worried that I had hurt you. You don’t react like that if you don’t care at least a little.”

Retracting his claws from my neck London whispers into my ear again. “Watch what he does next and tell me that he doesn’t care.”

Without warning London shoves me forward.

My legs wouldn’t hold me and I quickly find myself falling to the floor but before I hit strong arms grab hold of me before picking me up.

Blue had saved me from getting hurt.

And that meant that somewhere deep inside the Hunter holding me gently actually cared.

Realizing what he had done Blue scrunches his nose in disgust before allowing my body to hit the floor with a hard thud.

Okay, so maybe I had my work cut out for me.

Blue growls out in frustration before storming out of the room with his two friends following close behind.

I groan as London comes to stand over me. “Did you really have to test him like that?”

London laughs. “I didn’t think he’d actually drop you.”

“Oh, ha, ha, you think you’re so funny.” I laugh sarcastically.

Picking me up off the floor London carries me over to my bed to lay me down until the reaction to his claws wore off.

“What did you talk with Pops about?” I ask curiously.

“He needs help.” London begins.

I close my eyes. “A group of his Hunters are missing.” I finish.

“I take it that was in your dream?” London questions gently.

I open my eyes and nod my head. “It’s the reason he ends up dead.” I reply referring to Blue.

“We’ll figure this all out and keep that from happening, Sweetheart.” He reassures.

“How do I even know any of this is real though? For all I know I’m stuck in another dream where no matter what I do I will have to watch him die.” I whimper.

“You don’t really know I guess. Just do anything you can think of to change this from what happened in your dream.” London suggests.

It was a good idea.

If I could alter what happened then maybe, just maybe, it wouldn’t end as tragically as my dream had.

Maybe I would have a chance to begin again without all of the heartache.

“I’m going to see if I can’t find something for us to eat. You’re going to need your strength when you’re able to stand up again.” London states as he moves away from me.

“So, you’re just going to leave me here, alone and vulnerable?” I snort.

London smirks and walks out of the room without saying a word.

I groan and close my eyes.

It was impossible to be mad at him. I understood all too well the game he was playing.

He was testing Blue again and I was going to be caught in the middle.

After just a few minutes the door swings open and Blue stomps into the room before slamming the door shut.

He curses loudly and tosses something against a nearby wall where it breaks.

“You know what really sucks?” I state startling him.

He turns to look at me with a raised brow.

“It’s always when you can’t move that your whole body decides to get itchy.” I finish.

It takes a moment but Blue shakes his head as a smile forms on his lips. “You’re a trip do you know that, wolf?”

“You have no idea.” I snort.

Silence surrounds us for a moment until Blue speaks again. “Are you going to be alright?” He asks as he motions to my body.

“I’ll be fine. This is London’s try at a joke. He could have done way worse than this if he wanted to hurt me.” I reply honestly.

“Would he ever hurt you?” He then questions as he moves closer.

I couldn’t exactly answer that.

London had hurt me and I didn’t really know if he wouldn’t try to do it again.

My silence answers Blue and he curses as he glances back at the door as if he could see London on the other side.

“If he tries to hurt you here tell me, okay.” Blue states sternly.

“He won’t hurt me here.” I reply softly.

Blue nods. “He better not.”
