Broken (The Onyx Wolves Book 2) (25 page)

I shrug. “Just hanging around, playing my part of being a pin-cushion.”

His brow furrows. “You’re immune, aren’t you?”

I nod and he curses again.

“Tell me that I didn’t just see my girl down at the fights with another guy.” He then grunts.

“That was her and the jerk who sold me out to get into this damn place.” I growl.

“What the hell are you doing, Doc.?” Zach growls out abruptly as he turns his attention back to the doctor.

“I’m going to do a blood transfusion.” The doctor answers easily.

“You don’t need to do that. I’ve been bitten more than once before and nothing ever happened.” Zach sighs roughly.

“I know you’re immune, but they don’t need to know that.” The doctor replies with a slight nod towards the door.

“Why not, what would they do?” I question curiously.

“He would be stuck in a room just like you. He wouldn’t have a chance to get back with River and their baby either.” The doctor explains.

Zach’s eyes go wide for a second as he sputters for words. “What baby?” He finally spits out.

I watch as the doctor’s head hangs low before he sighs. “River is pregnant with your child, Zach. That’s why I did those tests before.”

Zach looks to me in question and I nod.

“Does she know it’s mine?” He whispers.

The doctor nods his head. “Yes, I’m pretty sure she does but I haven’t told her that exactly.”

Zach’s head bows as his eyes close. “A baby, I can’t believe it.” He whispers to himself.

Moments later he bursts into tears before he looks up. “I have to see her. I have to talk to her, at least hold her for a few minutes if I can.”

The doctor nods. “I’ll see what I can do.”
