Some contraceptive devices can increase the risk of infection due to their detrimental effect on the vaginal microflora.
In menopausal women, irritation may be caused by vaginal dryness or narrowing of the urethra due to low estrogen.
In men, structural abnormalities or prostate enlargement may be implicated.
Alkaline urine may be to blame. This can result from excess ammonia and bicarbonate being excreted due to an acid-forming diet.
Exposure to chemical irritants (soaps, etc.).
Dehydration caused by insufficient fluid intake or excess diuretics.
Substances in the urine that irritate the bladder such as additives, spices, acidic foods (meat, dairy, sugar), coffee, tea, alcohol, fruit juices, colas, food allergens.
Action plan
Conventionally, antibiotics are prescribed; however, this can lead to resistant bacterial strains and a disturbance in the microflora.
EAT/DRINK
Sugar-free cranberry and/or blueberry juice to inhibit bacteria. You can add cranberries or blueberries to smoothies.
Low-protein, high-fiber foods, such as brown rice, millet, oats, fruit, and vegetables.
Barley water to rejuvenate the kidneys.
Fresh fruit and vegetables.
Filtered water: half a gallon a day to increase clearance of urine. Avoid iced water.
