About MobileReference Books

All eBooks are not created equal. The quality of an eBook varies greatly between publishers. This chapter explains the benefits of MobileReference electronic books.

Table of Contents

1. Active Table of Contents
2. Author Collections from MobileReference
3. Travel Guides from MobileReference
4. Study Guides from MobileReference
5. Reference Books from MobileReference
6. Other Selected Books from MobileReference

1. Benefits of an Active Table of Contents

How do you find a poem you want to read among 2,000 other poems? Anyone reading an electronic edition of Emily Dickinson is confronted with this question. To facilitate the process, our editors included an
Index of First Lines
, sorted alphabetically. To search the MobileReference edition of Emily Dickinson poems for "I'm nobody, who are you? Are you nobody too? …", you click on the link
Index of First Lines
, click on the link
-I-
, then scroll and find
"I'm nobody, who are you?"
. This method of indexing electronic books is called an Active Table of Contents. The illustration below shows the active table of contents from Emily Dickinson collected poems:

Looking for a poem or a story in a book that contains hundreds of stories is much easier with an active table of contents. Automatically scanned books often lack an active table of contents and links to footnotes. MobileReference editors carefully examine each book and insert links to individual stories, poems, letters, and footnotes to improve the reading experience and simplify electronic book navigation. The result is high quality books with active tables of contents.

An active Table of Contents is essential for books that require quick navigation to chapters and verses. The King James Bible published by MobileReference has both book and chapter navigation links. In just a few clicks, you can be reading any verse in the Bible. The Table of Contents has quick links to both the Old and New Testaments, Deuterocanonical literature, the Suggested Reading Lists, Glossary, List of Illustrations, and the A-Z Index. Just select the book you want to read and go directly to it. Once you have opened the book, you can select the chapter you want in just one click. For example, if you want to select Matthew, chapter 7:12, you could go to the Table of Contents, click on the New Testament link, click on the book of Matthew, then click on the chapter 7 link at the top of the page and scroll to 7:12.

2. MobileReference Author-Collections (Mobi Collected Works series)

MobileReference pioneered the publication of collections of works by a particular author in a single electronic book. This was motivated in part by the desire to reduce the clutter of titles in the digital library. Consider the collection 'Works of Charles Dickens' that contains more than 200 works. When purchased individually, every book has its own entry in your digital library. To select a book in a digital library of 200 books, one needs to scroll through as many as 20 pages of the library. MobileReference's '
Works of Charles Dickens
' organizes all of these books into one electronic volume that has a single representation in the digital library.
