Food to which you are intolerant because they stress the immune system, leading to fatigue. Take the pulse test (see page 180) to determine what you may be reacting to. Common culprits include gluten grains (wheat, rye, oats, barley, kamut, and spelt), dairy products, soy, nightshade family vegetables (potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, chiles, and tobacco), eggs, chocolate, and peanuts. HERBS AND SUPPLEMENTS

Herbs that can help to improve energy, immune function, and mood include Siberian ginseng and astragalus. Seek advice before taking these.

Green superfoods such as chlorella, wheat, and sprouted barley grass, algae, and spirulina can help with nourishment and cleansing.

Supplement with evening primrose oil and fish oils. These can help to improve energy and overall functioning.

Supplement with magnesium malate. Magnesium is needed for energy as well as relaxation.

Take coenzyme Q10. This can help to oxygenate the tissues and improve energy.

EXTRA TIPS

Support your digestive system. Digestive enzymes taken with meals can improve absorption of nutrients needed for energy. It is also important to chew thoroughly and to relax when eating.

Take probiotics to normalize gut bacteria. Healthy gut bacteria play a big role in immunity and digestion.

Support your liver. An overloaded liver can lead to feelings of toxicity and tiredness. The liver plays an important role in digestion and absorption as well as detoxification. Milk thistle is a great liver regenerator. Take this daily and drink dandelion-root coffee.

Drink pau d’arco and chamomile teas, which help to combat yeast overgrowth and reduce intestinal damp.

Make sure your bowels are moving two to three times a day. A clogged-up colon will only contribute to toxicity and fatigue. Soaked figs and prunes can be eaten before breakfast to promote bowel function.

Get plenty of rest. It is important not to overexert yourself. You may have days when you feel you have more energy, but overdoing it on these days can wipe you out for the next few days. Pace yourself. Take herbs to aid sleep if necessary. Chamomile, lime flowers, hops, passionflower, and skullcap are all good for promoting restful sleep.
