CHAPTER EIGHT
PHASE 1: BLOSSOMING BEAUTY

Health, contentment and trust Are your greatest possessions, And freedom your greatest joy.

—Buddha

This plan proves that it
is
possible for
anyone
to make improvements in his or her health—starting right now! You won't have to buy any new kitchen equipment, and many of the foods are upgraded variations of foods with which you are already familiar. In the Blossoming Beauty phase, you can make improvements without starting
too
fast. Before long, you'll experience a newfound confidence and natural glow!

I've introduced many working mothers, busy executives and people that had never been able to stick to a “diet” in the past to the Blossoming Beauty phase, and I have seen amazing results! This plan is appropriate for those that are fifty or more pounds overweight, have candida, are exhausted and don't know where to start.

BLOSSOMING BEAUTY BENEFITS

During this phase, you will be pleased to notice that you are dropping excess pounds and balancing back to your naturally perfect weight, but it is in a steady way that will last for the long term. Unlike when you've lost weight on other programs, you will actually find your energy
increasing
and staying steady through the day. Digestive problems, as well as chronic gassiness and bloat, will abate or disappear completely! As you consume much larger salads and amounts of plant foods, I think you will surprise yourself that you don't need the animal products like you once might have thought you did to stay satiated.

For my friends that have or suspect they have candida, you will be relieved to see that the extreme trouble you may have experienced for many years, such as excess pounds, bloat, gassiness, chronic yeast infections, feeling exhausted all the time and moodiness, will be greatly relieved! Remember that this is a process, as it takes time for the body to rebalance and heal, but you will start to see that recovery is in sight, and within your grasp.

When to Cut Gluten Out Completely

For those that have or suspect they have candida, gluten must be cut out completely. Switch to the other grains and grain products discussed in the
>Beauty Grains and Starches
section . It is not as hard as you think, and you will be so happy with how much better you feel!

BLOSSOMING BEAUTY BASIC TENETS

Since we are working to rebalance our sugar, get rid of carbohydrate cravings, and correct any yeast imbalances, as a Blossoming Beauty, you should avoid:

Fruit (except non-sweet fruit, such as lemons, limes, tomatoes, avocados and cucumbers), including all fruit juice

Dairy

Gluten-containing foods, such as wheat, rye and barley (reduce these to a maximum of three to four times a week rather than completely avoiding them if you must)

Refined sugar and starches, including sodas

Artificial sweeteners, including all diet sodas

Canned and microwaved foods

Unfermented soy products

Foods with additives or artificial ingredients, including packaged foods and pre-bottled fruit and vegetable juices

Table salt

Fried foods

Alcohol (the sugars in it can feed yeast; later a moderate amount of alcohol can be enjoyed occasionally)

Refined or heated oils (except a small amount of coconut oil)

Other oils (even olive oil, unless you are underweight)

Other oils (even olive oil, unless you are underweight)

No animal protein during the day, which slows the passage of food. We stay light and eat only plant-based foods.

Minimize snacking as much as possible. Snacking drains our Beauty Energy and overtaxes our system. Eat enough at meals so you feel satisfied and not hungry.

If hunger persists through the afternoon because you are used to eating heavier foods or more often, try eating more Probiotic & Enzyme Salad. You should always have veggies sticks around to snack on with salsa or another veggie-based dip. Chlorella tablets can also be helpful.

Nuts can be consumed in a quantity of one ounce or less per day. Eating more than one ounce during this phase will be too heavy and concentrated and may hinder your progress.

Dinner is vegetarian at least three times a week.

Since you are just starting out, there
may
be times when, because of your cravings, your emotions, what is going on in your life or some other reason, you miscombine and resort
to your old favorite foods. To counterbalance this, increase the size of your big predinner green salad with oil-free dressing. Remember the seesaw? The heavier the food you are going to eat next (lasagna with meat), the bigger your oil-free salad better be! The salad, full of water and fiber, will help absorb some of the really bad, dense foods. The salad helps keep the seesaw in balance as much as possible, even when we are “cheating.”

BLOSSOMING BEAUTY SAMPLE ONE-WEEK MENU

Meals for any day can be interchanged with a
lighter
meal (for example, Dharma's Kale Salad instead of an Open-Faced Avo Beauty Sandwich), but not the other way around.

This plan is meant to be a guide, so be sure to customize your meals accordingly. Of course, I don't expect you to make all these recipes every week. There will be really easy dishes you love and can make effortlessly and without thinking. That is wonderful! Keep it simple. You can also enjoy leftovers when you have them.

How Long Should You Be a Blossoming Beauty?

If you have a serious candida or sugar issue, you may need to stick with the Blossoming Beauty phase for three months. After this time period, you can see if you have cleansed your body enough or starved the yeast enough to handle fruit.

To do so, take the “fruit challenge” that Dr. William G. Crook describes in
The Yeast Connection and Women's Health.
1
He says to take a small bite of fruit and wait ten minutes to see if there is a negative reaction. If not, take another bite. If there are no adverse reactions for an hour, finish the piece of fruit. The best fruits to start reintroducing into the system are the sour fruits grapefruit and kiwi. Dr. Edward Howell, in his book
Enzyme Nutrition,

recommends a similar approach—starting with a small amount of fruit and slowing increasing the quantity until moderate amounts of fruit can be tolerated comfortably.
2

In the Radiant Beauty phase, we start to reintroduce fruit. When you transition, carefully monitor how you feel as you start to reintroduce fruit. If you still experience adverse symptoms to fruit (bloating or any form of digestive discomfort), drop back to Blossoming Beauty and try again in a few weeks or when you feel ready. As our bodies become more alkaline and clean, we will thrive off fruit and digest fruit wonderfully, and fruit will become one of our most important allies in our quest for true beauty!
