8/12/09- He’s alive. They told me he was dead. Why would they tell me he was dead if he was really
alive? Are they trying to keep him from me? They can’t keep him from me!
I don’t even know what to do right now. I was worried enough when I realized I forgot to grab the bedpan from the basement. I didn’t even think about the fact that it had my blood on it. Luckily, it got back to the lab before Ben did, so I got to process it. The chief was breathing over my shoulder, so I wasn’t able to destroy the evidence. It’s not going to be hard to alter the results when they come in, though. All I need to do is change the sex for now. I can worry about changing the complete report later. I had actually started to relax when I was at the bar with Rilynne and Ben and it came on the news that Derek was actually alive. I was completely freaking out. If it hadn’t been for some guys who went after Rilynne at the bar, she might have noticed how shaken I was. Ben ended up knocking one out and restraining the other. If I hadn’t been so freaked, it would have actually been pretty enjoyable. I couldn’t even talk after that. I tried to remain as calm as I could until I finally got up to leave a
little while later. I ran home. I was shaking when I walked into my apartment and turned on the police scanner. There wasn’t anything on there. He must not be conscious, though. If he was, they would at least know they weren’t looking for a man. I’m too freaked to even think. Part of me wants to run, but I don’t know if that’s smart. If I just disappear, they will know something’s up. Oh, I just don’t know what to do.
Well, I just saw Ben leaving the building, so I called him to see what he knew. I shouldn’t have done it, because I know I sounded pretty worried on the phone. I tried not to, but that didn’t work. He must have been preoccupied, because he didn’t even seem to notice. He said that Derek is in a coma and isn’t talking. I’m still pretty freaked, but at least I know I’m safe for the moment.
8/13/09- It’s only a matter of time now. I could tell by the chatter in the station today that the task force is onto something. Even if they weren’t, it will only be a matter of time before Derek wakes up. I need to silence him for good, as well as start with plan B.
I’ve made sure that everything will tie back to Ben. I still wish there was another way, but it has to be him. He will gladly do it, though. I know he will. With the department on his trail, it will give me enough time to get Justin taken care of. Ben will understand. He’ll be glad that I did it. It’s the only way to save Justin’s life.
I made sure Rilynne was going to be at the station today before heading to the apartment building. I picked the lock on her apartment door and went in. You know, of all the things that Justin taught me, that is my favorite. I was just planning on getting her dress size so I could pick up her bridesmaid dress, but I kind of lost it when I was there. I guess it was just the frustration and stress from everything going on. At first I just flung the stuff off of her dresser onto the floor. I couldn’t stop after that. By the time I finished, the entire apartment was trashed. I almost feel bad, but then I think of everything she’s kept from me. She’s lied about her and Ben, and she
lied about Derek being alive. She deserves it. It should also distract everyone for a bit. It’s a good thing I’ve spent a lot of time in her apartment, because I didn’t even think to wear gloves. I wasn’t planning on her even knowing I was there, though.
I didn’t go out there when the call came in. I knew I wouldn’t be able to keep the grin off of my face. Something must have happened there, though, because Ben was strange when he came back. He was really quiet, and wouldn’t really talk to anyone.
It was later that night that something happened in the homicide office. I don’t know what they found, but they are onto something. They were all both excited and pensive when they were leaving. It really worries me. I don’t think I can wait any longer. It’s time.
8/14/09- I couldn’t sleep at all last night. I did end up coming up with a plan, though. Oddly enough, I get my best ideas when I’m lying in bed. Anyway, I saw Ben walking in this morning. He was taking the stuff collected yesterday back to Rilynne. I watched at the end of the hall for him to walk out. I waited for him to get to the end of the hall before tucking a black card into her door and going after him. I caught up with him just as he was getting onto the elevator. He looked at me funny, so I told him I was visiting the guy a few doors down from Rilynne. He didn’t look too pleased, but he didn’t say anything. I told him I was actually glad I ran into him and that I needed his help getting something out of my car. He followed me right out and I injected him when he pulled the backdoor open. I had just gotten him in and was driving down the street when I saw Rilynne run out of the building. I took him out to the mausoleum, because it was the only place I could think of. There isn’t much of a chance that anyone would find us here. I’m going to wait for Ben to wake up, and then have him call Rilynne and tell her to come get him. When she comes, I will have everyone here and we can finish it all. Rilynne is going to love the dress I got. She’s going to make a beautiful maid of honor.
10:00 AM- He isn’t cooperating! I told him that all he needed to do was to call her, but he won’t. I even told him that I wasn’t going to hurt either of them. I told him that I would let them both go as soon as everything was done, but he won’t listen. I just got SO ANGRY! I started kicking him. I just wanted him to listen. I probably should have told him about Justin, but I want it to be a surprise. With his state of mind right now, I don’t think he would have believed me anyway. I feel bad for hurting him, though. Now he’s going to be all bruised in the wedding pictures. I haven’t told Justin about it. I’m kind of scared to. I know he’s going to be upset. I just lost it. He should have just listened. I get that he wants to keep her safe, but this is ridiculous. And now I have to go to work. No doubt everyone is freaking out about him being missing. Hopefully I can get him to call her tonight. If not, maybe I can just send a message from his phone. I don’t know if I can get her to come alone that way, though. I guess I will just have to count on the love they have for each other. I’m sure she will do anything she has to in order to guarantee he’s safe.
6:15 PM- It’s falling apart! I don’t know how, but they connected Ben to the vessels. Not only that, they’ve figured out how they were chosen! They called me down to the homicide office and asked if he had any connection to the one of the men. I didn’t know what to say. I considered telling the truth and saying he didn’t, but I was worried they might start looking at me next. I regretted telling them that I consulted with him right after, though. Ben is the only person who knew I was involved with Justin. Without him around to tell them, they never would have been smart enough to figure it out. Now they think Ben killed them all, so there is no way Rilynne will come alone if she gets a call from him. I saw the look on her face when they were asking me about it. She looked devastated. She must have decided along with everyone else that he is guilty. I don’t know what I’m going to do now. It’s all falling apart. Derek is still alive, so he can tie me to this the moment he wakes up. I tried to get into the hospital to see if I could silence him, but he is being heavily guarded. There’s no way I can get to him. The only thing keeping me up right at the moment is knowing that Justin is strong enough. We can finish the process as soon as I have everything and everyone in place. I just have to figure out how to get Rilynne.
I know it was my
plan to have Ben take the fall, but it just happened at the worst possible time.
I’m also ashamed to admit that I took my frustrations out on Ben again. I don’t know why I did it. Once I started hitting him, though, it seemed like all of the frustration I’ve been feeling over the last year just flowed out. I ended up hurting him pretty bad. He was unconscious when I left. I’ve decided not to tell Justin about it until I have to. I need him to concentrate on transferring into his body. It would only be a distraction.
I did try to get Ben to call Rilynne again. He refused like before. He told me that I could do anything I wanted to him, but he wouldn’t call her. He said there was nothing I could do that would make him bring her into this. He cares for her more than I originally thought. I can’t imagine anyone taking a beating as bad as the one I gave him and still only be concerned with someone else. They are going to make such a great couple. As annoyed as I am that she came in and messed everything up, I have to say that she is good for him. She’ll make a good sister in law.
I guess I better get everything ready for tomorrow. I want to have the entire thing set up by the time I get Rilynne here. I’ve been running over different ways I can do it. I think I’m just going to have to grab her. It shouldn’t be too hard. I’ll just do it when she’s on her way home from work. The streets have been pretty empty lately. It shouldn’t be hard. Even if someone sees me, this will all be over tomorrow. Either that or I can just offer her a ride and inject her in the car. That worked before. The only problem with that is I’m running super low on the tranquilizers. I don’t know if I have enough for a full dose, and I don’t want to risk going out to get more right now. I’ll just have to play it by ear.
8/15/09- Derek woke up.
I barely made it out of the station before I saw them starting to close ranks. This isn’t right. This isn’t how things were supposed to go. How am I supposed to get Rilynne out now? I can’t do this without her.
8:00- Well, everything is right on schedule. I grabbed Rilynne at 4:30 today. I ended up just walking up behind her and hitting her on the back of the head. Ben was furious when he saw me bring her in. He was saying some pretty harsh things. I was tempted to tell him why he was here, but I decided to wait until she woke up and make it a surprise. It took forever for that to happen. It gave me plenty of time to get the hall set up and decorated. I must say, it looks pretty good. It’s not going to be the big wedding I always wanted, but it won’t matter as long as I have my Justin. I moved his body into place, and he was able to enter it there. It’s still a little stiff, so he’s having a hard time moving, but that will get better. I can’t believe it worked! He’s back! He’s here with me and I couldn’t be happier.
Rilynne finally woke up a little while ago, so I took everything in for them to start getting ready. I was right about her being a clever little thing. I didn’t need to tell her why we were all here. I just told them that it was time to start getting ready, and she finished the rest. Ben was pretty shocked, but I figured she could fill in the rest. Now it’s almost time for the wedding. Justin will have his surgery tomorrow and everything will be back to normal! I’m so excited!
Well, time for me to start getting ready. I can’t wait for Justin to see me in my dress!
On August 15, 2009, Nicole Bennett set out to marry her lost love, Justin Davis. During the ceremony, Rilynne Evans was able to overpower and disarm Nicole. Before she could restrain her, Nicole pulled out a second gun and turned it toward Ben. As she went to take a shot, Rilynne was forced to shoot and kill her.
Nicole’s diary was discovered in the mausoleum. In addition to being able to close eight murders, as well as the abduction of Derek Hartley, passages have been used as teaching references in both mental health and profiling classes in Addison Valley.
In lieu of the events, the Addison Valley Police Department abolished the no-fraternization regulation, allowing its members to openly date whomever they desired.
Shaken by his failure to see what was going on with Nicole Benson, aka Marie Davis, Dr. Gamboa became a consultant for the Addison Valley Police Department.
After spending several days in the hospital, both Ben Davis and Derek Hartley were released. Ben suffered several broken bones and minor internal bleeding, but he made a full recovery. Derek Hartley was informed upon leaving the hospital that a private foundation covered his hospital bills, as well as made arrangements to cover any expenses needed to ensure his recovery.
Derek Hartley proposed to his girlfriend, Emily Martin, two months after his horrific ordeal.
