Chapter 22

F
OR THE rest of that week things went well. Henry only stayed over one night, but he was there every other night that week from after work until at least eleven. Saturday night came and Ryan had convinced Henry to go to a club with him.

The club Ryan had chosen, Club Trinity looked deceptively small from the outside. It was a three story brick building in Boston’s Back Bay. The inside revealed so much more. The place was huge; three floors. The atmosphere was decadent to say the least, there were suede and leather booths lining the walls. What appeared to Henry to be a VIP section sat on an elevated level close to the DJ booth. There were two bars strategically placed across the dance floor from each other. Ryan had told him on the way that the first floor played top forty, the second was house mix, and the third was live bands. Henry was interested in the live music, he had no desire to visit the second floor and he could be okay with the first floor.

After being carded, they walked through the door and Ryan cocked his head toward the bar to the left as he shoved his ID back in his wallet and into his back pocket. Henry followed obediently.

“What do you want?” Ryan asked Henry wrapping a hand around his waist and leaning into his ear. Henry stiffened only slightly and hoped that Ryan didn’t feel the sudden tension in his back.

“Sam Adams, whatever they have.” Henry replied. He didn’t attempt to move out of Ryan’s embrace, but stayed very conscious of it.

Ryan was already subtly moving to the beat pulsating from the speakers. Henry recognized the artist as ‘
Lil
Wayne
by the hoarse voice. One of his probation kids had an issue with what he called
purple drank
, Henry had since learned other terminology for the concoction. One day while talking with this young man, he got quite an extensive lesson on the artist and his habits. It still made Henry shake his head, just thinking about it. Would that kid have even known what it was or been influenced to try it if it weren’t for someone he idolized doing it?

Who knew? It was plausible.

Trying to explain to some of these kids that recreational drugs could be just as dangerous as the hard shit was futile sometimes. Henry couldn’t help but make the connection to Ryan; it would probably be a futile attempt with him as well.

Just then their drinks arrived and before Henry could get his wallet out, Ryan had cash in hand, passing it to the bartender. After leaving a generous tip on the bar, Ryan pushed the lime at the top of his Corona bottle into the neck and tipped his bottle to Henry’s and they drank.  They stayed at the bar, people watching, listening to the music and finishing off their first round of drinks before ordering a second. Once they had their second round in hand, Ryan tugged on the hem of Henry’s shirt and headed for the dance floor. Henry shook his head at himself, it still surprised him, the things he didn’t typically do that he was willing to do with Ryan, for Ryan.

When they reached the floor, a song came on that Henry actually knew and liked,
Turn Down For What
; it was definitely a remix, but he liked it none the less. Ryan was all over it. Henry had to smile, Ryan was immediately in a dance zone. Staying close to Henry, there wasn’t a part of his body that wasn’t moving. His head thrashed from side to side, beer in one hand the other pumping in the air, his chest and hips jerking back and forth. Henry didn’t even try to keep up, just moved at his own pace and much more reserved in his movements. They drank their beers, danced and smiled at each other. Ryan tossed a few winks and his sexy lip biting into the mix. A few songs later Henry noticed that they both had empty beer bottles, taking Ryan’s from him, Henry leaned in, “I’m going to get us refills.”

Ryan simply nodded and kept dancing. Henry looked him over and smiled before turning toward the bar.

After ordering the drinks, Henry turned his back on the bar as he waited. He leaned against it and stared at Ryan out on the dance floor. Not only was he remarkable when he was wrapped in silk; but he was impressive on the dance floor as well. Henry watched Ryan move so effortlessly to the music, every song that played seemed tailor made for him. Watching him hitch his hips back and forth; the way he bit his lip and tossed his head back, reminded Henry of what he looked like when they made love, it was so sexy. He couldn’t remember ever being so turned on by watching someone dance before; the man was sex walking.

“Hey buddy” pulled Henry out of his lust-induced fog, turning around to get their drinks and pay. He returned to the dance floor and handed Ryan his drink. Ryan took the drink in one hand and wrapped the other around Henry’s neck, his rhythm never missing a beat. Henry was relaxed and happy and it felt good to have Ryan holding onto him and he didn’t care - in the moment. He just wanted to keep feeling this good, however long it lasted. Ryan took a sip of his Corona then leaned into give Henry a kiss, Henry could taste the lime flavor mingled with beer on his lips. He only hesitated slightly, still not that comfortable with PDA, but caught up in the euphoria of the moment.

“Take a drink Henry, relax.” Ryan said, he knew that Henry was still a little timid. Henry took a long pull off his beer and willed himself to relax completely and enjoy the moment here with this gorgeous man; the man that
he
was going home with …who was now grinding himself against Henry’s thigh. He never took his hand away from Henry’s neck and Henry didn’t mind one bit. This time with Ryan was the best he could recall, could it get better? It wasn’t possible. Anytime with Ryan, especially naked time with Ryan, was the best time. There was nothing he could compare it to. Nothing better.

“Kiss me, Henry.”

Ryan was testing him, Henry was sure of it. Well, he wasn’t backing down, not tonight. Henry wrapped his hands around Ryan’s still gyrating hips, licked his lips and sank his tongue into Ryan’s mouth. Ryan stilled momentarily, probably expecting Henry to just give him a peck.

Haha, surprised you, didn’t I?

Once Henry took that initiative, the tone was set for the rest of the night. They made out on the dance floor like a couple of teenagers. Even though Henry was nowhere near the accomplished dancer that Ryan was; he still made every effort to keep up with him. Henry could tell Ryan was very appreciative, he could feel it on his thigh. He could see it in his eyes and with his smile.

God, that smile.

“I need to piss and smoke.” Ryan said, still dancing.

Henry nodded at him.

Ryan was apparently going full throttle testing boundaries tonight, because he grasped Henry by the hand and started off the dance floor. There was no line at the men’s room so they were in and out. Ryan followed this time, linking his hand in Henry’s again and staying right up against his back through the crowd. Ryan had asked someone in the bathroom if there was a smoking area and the guy told them where to find it. When they reached the small outdoor enclosure situated at the back of the club, Ryan lit one up. Henry leaned back against the brick, feeling the vibration of the bass through the wall. Ryan hopped up on the iron banister that served as a barricade to the alley.

“You want to check out upstairs when we go back in?” Ryan asked him.

“If you want to.”

Ryan rolled his eyes and took a drag off of his butt, before answering, “I don’t care, I know you don’t like house music, not sure what’s going on the third floor.”

Someone standing nearby told them that the third floor was hosting a private event tonight. So that narrowed down their options.

“Fuck it, we’ll stay down here then.”

“Nah, we can go upstairs if you want.”

“No fuck that, you won’t want to dance if we’re up there.” Ryan said winking at Henry.

Quickly Henry looked over to the other few people standing nearby, no one was paying them any mind and that relieved him.

Ryan finished his cigarette and tossed it in the designated bin. Walking back over to Henry he whispered, “Henry, you need another drink.”

“I think you’re right.” Henry agreed and followed Ryan back into the building.

They headed straight to the bar, Henry asked for two more beers and Ryan added two shots to the order. The drinks arrived and they both took the shots first, but not before Ryan had the chance to say “Bottoms up” and wink at Henry.

Was it time to go yet?

They swallowed down the Kamikaze shots. Ryan leaned in closer when Henry took the empty glass from him and put both on the bar. Ryan put his hand on Henry’s back and slid it up and down. Henry craned his neck back to smile at him and Ryan gave him a wink. They stayed like that for a minute before Ryan pulled back and grabbed his beer, Henry followed his lead and they made their way back to the dance floor. He was sure that he had never spent as much time on a dance floor in his entire life as he had tonight, but it was obvious that this made Ryan happy and
that
made him happy.

They danced a few more songs, before Ryan offered to get the next round. Henry felt awkward standing there on his own. He considered going to the bar with Ryan but while he was debating the idea in his mind, Ryan returned. He handed Henry his beer and began to drink his own. They fell back into that same comfortable rhythm, Ryan dancing his ass off and Henry semi-dancing, trying to keep up.

Henry had lost track of how many songs had passed since Ryan came back with that last round. Ryan was swaying his head back and forth to the music. His eyes glazed over, biting the corner of his bottom lip. Henry knew that look. Ryan had this blurry line where he went from buzzed and feeling good, to maybe you need to lie down. After such a short amount of time spent together it wasn’t lost on Henry that he could recognize this metaphoric line. Henry grabbed Ryan around the waist, “Hey Ryan, you doing all right?”

“I'm fucking wonderful. How ‘bout you baby?”

“I’m good but I think I’m ready to go.”

“Why?” Ryan pouted.

“Listen, when we get home you can have a drink if you still want it, but for now let’s just get out of here.” Henry told him, he didn’t want Ryan to resist leaving, so he would say what he needed to get him out the door.

“Henry, what’s the deal? Is someone here that you don't want to see? Maybe you don't want to be seen with me?” Ryan said, with much less consternation in his voice then the words he spoke.

“Ryan stop, okay? I didn't see anyone I just think we’re done for the night.”

“All right, I guess.” Ryan didn’t put up much resistance after that. “Maybe you just want to get home for another reason.”

“Maybe you’re right.” Henry said in his ear as he wrapped and arm around Ryan’s waist and steered him toward the door.

Yeah, like that’s going to happen.
Henry thought, he could almost guarantee Ryan would be out cold before they got back to the loft. With each step they took, Ryan leaned into him more and lost his footing every few steps. A troubling thought went through Henry’s mind. What if this wasn’t the drinks? Ryan hadn’t had a chance to smoke since they got here? What else could it be? He had only been out of Henry’s sights for the time it took him to go to the bar that last time.

Fuck.

He didn’t like where his thoughts were taking him.

Once they were outside Ryan was laughing and holding onto Henry the best he could. He was weaving quite a bit. Henry held onto him while he called a cab, not giving a fuck what anyone thought at that moment. They didn’t have to wait long.

Once they were in the cab and headed back toward the loft, Ryan started to get very handsy.  He leaned into Henry’s neck and ran one hand under his shirt, stroking the sparse hair above the button of his jeans. One of his legs tossed over Henry’s. When Henry felt the tip of Ryan’s tongue touch his neck, he closed his eyes and allowed himself to enjoy the feeling for the briefest of moments before turning his head just enough to be out of Ryan’s reach. Ryan mumbled something unintelligible and Henry didn’t ask him to repeat it. Henry caught the eye of the cab driver and although he surely couldn’t see Ryan’s hand, Henry still gently pulled it from under his shirt and put it in Ryan’s own lap. Ryan giggled at this and thankfully took the hint, resting his head back against the seat. He didn’t however, remove his leg from between Henry’s and Henry had made no effort to do it himself.

By the time they pulled up in front of the loft and Henry had paid the fare, Ryan was snoring lightly. Henry opened the door and gave him a slight nudge.

“Ryan, come on man, we’re here.” Henry coaxed.

Ryan lifted his head a bit in Henry’s direction and his eyes opened into small slits.

“Come on, don’t make me carry you,” he said more sternly.

Ryan scooted slowly toward Henry and his side of the cab. Henry stepped out of the cab and reached back in to help Ryan out. When he had him upright, he moved him aside to close the door. Ryan leaned against the cab restlessly moving his limbs.  Henry put an arm around his waist and led him toward the front door. Once they were on the stoop, Henry started digging in Ryan’s pockets for the keys. Ryan nuzzled into the crook of Henry's neck and then stopped moving.

“Ryan, come on, stand up so I can open the door.” Ryan didn’t respond and became more dead weight in Henry’s arms. “Jesus Christ, Ryan, what the fuck did you take?

Henry shook him, Ryan just swayed in his arms with a loose grasp on Henry’s biceps and he giggled.
