“I would never separate
you from the kids, my love. I spoke in anger, I’m sorry.” He said
more calmly and mixed his power with mine as he kissed
me.

“I didn’t know what to
expect when I got to the restaurant. It seemed every wolf there
called me, and then Jennifer called. It scared the shit out of me,
to think that you were hurt or worse. Why didn’t you use the wolves
that there for protection?” He asked me and rested his forehead
against mine.

“I did. I told them to
protect the kids. I didn’t need their help. Why ask for help when I
don’t need it?” I asked him and rubbed the tip of my nose against
his. “I told you I would ask for help when I needed it, and I did.
Isn’t that good enough?”

“I don’t know.” He said
rubbing the tip of his nose against mine. “I guess I’ll have to
wait and see.”

I kissed him and felt him
slowly relax.

“Why did you put the candy
bar in the microwave?” He asked.

“Because it was frozen,” I
answered. “Now it is warm and soft, and it will be very
good.”

I shared my warm, sticky
goodness with him, and he had to admit it was delicious. Once we
were back in ours rooms. I grabbed my laptop and headed into the
bedroom. After a quick shower I showed Gabriel my list of master
vampires, complete with locations and how extensive their stables
were.

“Why did you start this?”
He asked. As he scrolled through the hundreds of names I had in the
list.

“Because I wanted to
remember them, just like the Alphas I’ve met. Yes, I have a list of
them as well.” I answered his unspoken question. “This information
can be used by all the Sōkjans, Gabriel. By having all the names of
the major players from each city throughout the world, it will make
our job a little easier someday.”

“How did you get so many
names?” He asked.

Shaking his head over the
large amount of data I had collected through the
years
.

“Well I did have some
help. Adam found some of them for me, and I added names to the list
as I found new masters.” I told him. “Adam designed the program, so
I wouldn’t go blind trying to find a name. I can put in the symbol,
and the program will search through the list of names until we have
a match.”

“I need to meet this Adam
of yours.” He looked at me. “He sounds like a dangerous guy to have
running around.”

He had no idea, how
dangerous Adam was. He could find out information about anyone. I
watched Gabriel reading through the data base. I wondered how Adam
was going to handle him. This Gabriel wasn’t going to take no for
an answered from Adam this time. I had no doubt that he would be
working for Gabriel before the week was out
.

“Show me how this works.”
He commanded me.

I arched my eyebrow at his
command, but I typed in dragon with circle, Asian letter or symbol
and sat back to watch the search with him.

“How long will it take?”
He asked me.

His eyes never leaving the
computer screen.

“I don’t know it could
take a few minutes or a couple of hours.” I answered with a yawn.
“Why don’t we get some sleep and see what we have in the morning.”
I suggested. “We won’t do anything with the information until
tomorrow night anyway.”

Here was another myth that
was true about vampires. They didn’t come out until dark and the
smart ones, had some heavy-duty security guarding their homes
during the day. If Gabriel wanted too we could go and destroy every
living thing in the house, but we might not ever get the master
vampire. As I understood it, some of the servants would impede our
attack long enough to move the master to a safer location. The best
thing for us to do would be to wait until later and then go in
force.

“Alright,” He
agreed.

I picked up the laptop and
put on the dresser, before jumping back into bed. Snuggling, up
with him I gave him a quick kiss.

“You can’t have Adam,
Gabriel.” I told him. “He is mine.”

“Well see about that won’t
we.” He grabbed the back of my neck. “Everything that is yours is
mine anyway.” He kissed me with a passion that took my breath and
robbed me of thought. “Get some sleep, my love we have a busy day
tomorrow.”

By noon, I was ready to
kill anyone who dared to speak to me. The way things were going it
didn’t look as if it would be improving anytime soon. The manager
from the China Moon restaurant called early in the morning with
some estimates on the damage. I blew a gasket when I heard how much
they wanted to charge and how long it would take to be fixed. I
told him I’d call him back.

“How fast could you have
the wolves start on the damage at the China Moon?” I asked Gabriel
from the doorway of his office.

“Most likely within the
hour, I take it you didn’t like what the manager had to say?” He
asked me and sat back in his seat.

“No I didn’t. He said it
would take a week, before the workers could start and then it would
take another two weeks before the job would be complete.” I moved
in frustration. “Would you please call your wolves and get them out
there?”

He crooked a finger at me.
I sighed and walked to the desk.

“What?” I
asked.

He moved quicker than a
snake and grabbed my hand, before I could pull it away. With a
quick jerk I fell into his lap.

“I will call the village
and get a work crew out there, only if you say our wolves, and our
pack, not your wolves or your pack.” He instructed me.

I blew out my breath.
Fine, I could play along with him.

“Our wolves and our pack,
now are you happy now?” I parroted back at him.

“That’s a start.” He
said.

With a quick kiss he let
me go.

I paced the office while
he called the village and made arrangements for a work crew to go
out to the restaurant. If, the stupid manager had a problem with
any of this, I was going down there to kill him myself.

“They will be there within
the hour.” He told me smugly when he hung up the phone.

I made a face at him and
pulled out my cell phone.

“My crew will be there
within the hour.” I told the man when he answered the phone. “We
will have your business up and running in no time.”

I listened to all of his
questions with a snarl on my face
.

“Look ask, hang on.” I
told him, “Gabriel, who’s in charge of the construction crew
working at the restaurant?”

“Mike.” He laughed at
me.

I narrowed my eyes and
snarled at him.

“Ask Mike all your
questions when he gets there. If he can’t answer your questions, he
can call me or Gabriel, okay?” I hung up with a snarl.

“I do love watching you
deal with people.” He laughed.

At this distance, I could
bury two daggers into his laughing face and still make it out of
the room, before he could recover. The idea was highly
appealing
.

“Did we get the name of
the master vampire yet?” He asked as he wiped his eyes.

“Maybe, I’ll have to look.
I think you’re feeling better today, do you need any healing
chants?” I asked him as I headed for the door.

I never made it. Gabriel
launched himself at me and pinned me against the wall. I snarled in
his face.

“No I don’t need any
healing chants today. Thank you for offering.” He told me with a
grin. “What is wrong McKenna, you seem off today?”

“I don’t know what you are
talking about.” I told him, and I knew he could taste my
lie.

He was right, I was off
today. I didn’t sleep well last night. My dreams were plagued with
flashes of our past. The most annoying thing was
.
I never got a complete memory, and
it pissed me off. I had sent the kids off to work with Angus. After
I made sure that they were alright after last night.

I had also talked to Ted
this morning, and the happy news was no charges would be pressed
against me. All the stories where pretty much the same. We were
eating dinner minding our business, and this jerk came up to us,
and started some shit. Once we were outside I was attacked by a
second person that seemed to be waiting out there for
us.

I knew what was bothering
me, but I didn’t want to talk about it, at least not yet. We had
planned to go to cat town tonight and deal with Daniel, which meant
we would have to tell Tiberius that his son was trying to kill
Gabriel and kidnap me. I had read through all the information in
between dealing with the other stuff, and none of it looked good
for Daniel. I felt awful for Tiberius and was having a hard time
dealing with my emotions. I usually didn’t have a problem doing my
job, but tonight would be difficult.

“Let me go Gabriel, I
don’t want to play right now.” I snarled at him. “I’ll go check the
computer and see what we got.”

I pushed at him with hands
of power. He didn't move.

“Tell me what is bothering
you.” He demanded.

I pushed against him
harder this time. He moved back a little, before he pushed me
back.

“I’m not ready to talk
about it, okay? Just let me work it out for myself, and then we can
talk later.” I told him softly and looked away from him. “Really,
I’m just tired.”

He touched my face, “Take
all the time you need, love.” He whispered in my ear and then let
me go.

I raced up the stairs to
the bedroom and closed the door behind me. I took a couple of deep
breaths to calm down. I walked over to the dresser and picked up
the laptop. Sitting, back against the pillows on the bed I opened
the computer up. I gasped out loud when I read the name of the
master vampire that had sent his goons after me. Tayton Danker the
prince of the city, what the fuck was this?

I had heard many stories
about him over the years and none where particularly
polite.

I called Adam, “What do
you know about Tayton Danker?” I asked him.

“Not much, other than he
is the prince of Fall Branch. Why?” He asked me. “I liked working
with Ryan. He is a very smart kid. Let me know if I can do anything
to help him in the future.”

“I will. He liked working
with you too.” I told him dully. Any other time it would have
tickled me that the two of them had gotten along so well, but not
today. “Will you do some checking into this guy for me? I need to
ask him some questions, and I don’t have enough information about
him.”

“Sure thing, McKenna, I’ll
call you as soon as I can.” He agreed. “You okay McKenna? You don’t
sound like your usual self.”

“Yeah, I’ll be fine.” I
told him and rubbed my face. “We’ll make a dinner date later and
catch up on stuff.”

“No you won’t.” Gabriel
said from the door.

“Listen Adam, I have to
go. I’ll talk to you later.” I hung up the phone. “Don’t start
Gabriel. I have enough going on today.”

“You are not going to meet
him anywhere without me.” He told me as he crossed to the
bed.

“Challenging me is not in
your best interest right now.” I told him coming to my feet on the
bed. “I’m asking you to back off.”

“Who was the master
vampire?” He asked and stopped in front of me.

“Tayton Danker, prince of
the city.” I replied.

Silence filled the room as
we stared at each other.

“What would he want with
you?” He asked me.

I dropped back down on the
bed, “I don’t know, but I have a theory.” I said.

I lay back staring at the
ceiling.

“Go on.” He prompted and
sat down next to me.

“When new werewolves come
into your territory they have three days to make contact or leave.
When a vampire comes into a new city, they have to contact the
prince of the city’s office by night fall of the second day, or
leave. If Willow is here in the city, she may have met with the
prince already and told him why she was here.” I took a breath,
“But I know Willow. She would have told him to leave me alone.” I
shrugged.

“If your theory is correct
why would he send his fledgling vampires after you?”

“I guess he wanted to see
what she was talking about. If I am right, the attack last night
will piss off Willow. We might have a new prince of the city very
soon. She takes her little wars very seriously.”

“What if it wasn’t
Willow?” Gabriel asked untying my shoes.

“Well if it wasn’t Willow,
I guess we attracted too much attention the other night at the
brewery or the other night when we killed the witches. I usually
don’t do a lot of killing in my own backyard.” I answered him and
crook my neck to see what he was doing. “Either way, we are going
to have to have a talk with this guy.”

Gabriel dropped both shoes
on the floor by the bed and picked up the laptop.

“What kind of talk would
we have with Tayton and would it end with him bleeding?” He asked
me.
