Luna's Sokjan (Book one) (36 page)

The first lesson dear old
Angus taught me. Never fight fair and I figured it could be applied
to any situation. I pressed an elbow into his wounded stomach. He
sucked in air and backed away from me. Flipping, around I faced
him.

“I can always summon the
beastie and offer him my services. If, that’s what you really want.
Personally, I found if very sexy watching you beat on him like
that, very manly. But I want to be a good mate and do whatever I
can to make you happy.” I said with a straight face.

He gave a snort of
laughter, “You want to be a good mate. Do whatever you can to make
me happy. Now that’s a laugh. My love, you have always done, what
you wanted, when you wanted to do it. You just move the rest of us
around to get what you want.” This time when he pressed me back
against the door, he trapped both of my hands in his. “But I love
you anyway.”

The undemanding kiss
warmed my blood and left me wanting more. I wasn't sure what I
would have done, if he had been killed last night. Okay that was a
lie. I would have killed Myurr and then spent the rest of my life
taking it out on ever one around me.

“I love you
Gabriel
.
” I
peered deeply into his eyes. “Now go sit down, before you reopen
your wounds and I have to explain to Angus what happened to
you.”

With one last kiss, he let
me help him back to the couch. He settled down like a king and we
finished watching his movie.

For dinner that night I
took the kids to China Moon buffet. After we had driven by what was
left of the brewery. I stopped the car and stared at what was left
of the blackened remains of the building. The clean-up crew had
done a terrific job. I looked around the area and turned back to
the kids.

“Want to learn something
that is useful to know?” I asked them.

With a hearty yes, we all
got out.

I walked around the area
getting a feel for just how large it was and felt out for any
spirits that may still be playing in the remains.

“Okay, remember how I
taught you to pull your power to you?” I asked my small group, and
with their nods continued, “We are going to call a circle, and
cleanse the area. Basically we are going to replace all the bad
energy with clean energy.” I explained pulling my power to me. I
felt them do the same. “Now make a circle.” We all moved around to
make a circle. “I want you to picture a bubble around us.” I felt
the energy around us move and change. “Good, now push the bubble
out to the edge of the property.” I was immensely pleased with
their performance and filled in any gaps in the circle with my own
power with my own. I walked them through calling the quarters. The
same way my mother had taught me.

“Greetings spirits, it is
I McKenna daughter of Luna, which calls you to this circle tonight.
I need our help to clean this land and bring back its once positive
energy.” I called out into the darkness. “I will pay the calling
price with power.” I felt the spirits move around us.

I pushed more power into
the circle making it stronger. I did this for two reasons. The
first reason, the kids didn’t have the strength or control yet to
handle feeding the spirits. The other reason, well I didn’t want
them to experience the intense pain of the feeding, this way they
might get a major headache, but none of the knee bending pain I
would feel. When they were ready I would teach them the actual cost
of what I did, and may Luna help them.

“Now chant with me and at
the same rhythm.” I instructed the kids, and slowly I began the
chant. The kids joined in. The power around us moved and it mixed
with our blended powers, making the circle stronger. It took thirty
minutes to reverse the damage done to the energy and guide them
through the closing of the circle.

“Can you feel the
difference in the air around us?” I asked them, “It feels much
lighter and more charged.”

I guided them, teaching
them to recognize the difference in what we had done. After every
one of them confirmed that they could feel the difference. We
started back to the car.

“Good, that is how you
know that you have done the ritual correctly.” I told them “Now
where are we going to eat at?”

We settled on the China
Moon Buffet and over dinner we went through the fight again and
again I answered all their questions. I listened to their theories
on why Anthony and Daniel had tried to kill Gabriel. Finally, they
decided that Anthony and Daniel wanted the pack’s land. It was a
pretty decent theory and one I had thought of myself.

Two large tattooed dirty
hands planted themselves in front of me on the table. I looked up
the multi tattooed muscular arms to the ugly hairy pale face that
loomed towards me. I sat back in my chair and stared into cold,
brown eyes. I took a sniff as I drank some of my coffee, hmmm, he
smelled like death.

“I saw you giving me the
eye earlier.” He said with a crooked smile.

“And which eye would that
be?” I asked. “Was it the, wow doesn’t that ugly guy really need a
shower eye?”

The kids had all gone dead
still waiting for a clue from me as to what they should
do.

“You know what I mean.” He
leered at me. “That’s a bold move with my woman sitting there right
next to me.”

I looked around him at the
skinny bleach blond, five foot, eight inches tall woman in heels.
She was nervously tugging at her coat. She was almost pretty. In
that I’m wearing way too much make-up and my clothes are too tight,
kind’ a way. I looked back at him.

Drinking, some more coffee
I thought about my options
.
I had to protect my kids, and we were in a
restaurant full of people. Normally I would have just kicked his
dumb ass without much of a thought. Then called Ted to let him know
that I had been assaulted by the jerk, but I did want to set a
moral example for the kids.

“Maybe we should take this
outside.” I suggested putting my cup down. “That way you and I can
talk about what you think has happened here tonight.”

“My woman is gonna kick
your ass, that’s what is gonna happened here tonight.” He smiled
showing me his ugly yellow teeth and then he looked at Jennifer.
She went pale under his gaze. “Maybe after we teach you a lesson
and beat up the boys. I’ll see what the girl has to
offer.”

The boys moved closer to
Jennifer, and I stared coldly at our new friend.

“Now you really should
have left this between us.” I told him in a remarkably quiet voice.
I had gone dead still. Brown eyes met mine, “Now I have to kill you
in a public place and then I have to explain to everyone how you
threatened my kids.”

He laughed out loud, and
the restaurant went deadly quiet.

“You can’t kill me.” He
stood up and looked down at me. “I think that your girl will make
an excellent play toy for me and my friends.”

Jumping up
quickly
,
I
grabbed the back of his head and slammed it down on the table.
Blood sprayed out across the restaurant when, I jerked his head
back up. In that one hit I had broken his nose and split both of
his fat lips. Snapping my wrist, I placed the tip of the dagger
under his chin. I licked the blood drops from my lips, and a
predatory smile crossed my face, a baby vampire.

“I was going to let you
walk out of here alive. Now I will cut out your tongue and pluck
out your eyes, before I kill you.” I told him with a soft purr.
“You should have gone outside when I suggested it, and you really
should have never threatened my kids.”

No one in the restaurant
moved, no one took a single breath. I moved my power around us
checking for another threat.

“Shewolf call your Da and
tell him that I tried to avoid this fight.” I told her. “Wolves of
the Castilian Springs,” I called out to the restaurant. “I charge
you with the protection of my kids.”

With a grin, I shoved my
dagger up through his chin into his mouth, and I watched him choke
on his own blood before it gushed out of his mouth.

“That’s right little
fledgling. I have just started playing with you.” I whispered in
his ear.

I spun him around and
threw him head first through the large glass window behind us. I
would have to get China Moon a new window, but it was worth it.
With a quick grin to my kids, I jumped out the window after him. He
was lying in a puddle of glass and blood when I landed outside the
window in a crouch. He tried to stand up. Nice, he wanted to die on
his feet or maybe he thought he was going to put up a
fight.

“Ready to play little
vampire?” I asked from where I was.

“Come on bitch. I will
kill you I don’t care what my master wanted.” He
answered.

“Master?” I
inquired.

In the vampire world,
master was a title for one who was old enough and talented enough
to create a new vampire. This fledgling vampire would spend the
next fifty years learning and developing his abilities under his
master’s watchful eye. If he lived and was smart enough he would
advance to adept. During this time, he could spend the next hundred
years or more, building up his stable and mastering his abilities.
When he was strong enough to obtain his own territory, then he
would be considered a master vampire. Obviously, this fledgling’s
master wasn’t smart enough to teach him, not to fuck with something
that could kill him.

“Tell me his name and I
will go ask him what he wants with me, myself. Well, after I send
you to your god.” I told him.

How many masters wanted
something from me?

He spit out blood and eyed
me, “You got lucky bitch and it won’t happen again.”

I could feel people moving
around behind me. Come to watch the show through the broken window.
We were in the crowded parking lot of the restaurant, and I
wondered how long it would take Gabriel to get here. My time was
short. So I couldn’t play for long, but I did want to send the
appropriate message to the master
.

“Come little fledgling
play with me.” I said to him with a grin and
charged
.

The motion was fast, and
he didn’t have time to react. I caught him around the waist and
slammed him into a car. The blow broke out both side windows and
left his body imprinted in the passenger door. He groaned out loud,
and I danced away.

“What’s wrong, little vamp
not ready to play in the big leagues?” I taunted him.

With a growl, he made a
feeble charge at me. I moved out of the way. He sailed right passed
me and stumbled, but to his credit he caught himself.

Turning slowly around, he
gave me a lopsided grin, “Are you ready, bitch?”

He looked over my shoulder
somewhere to the left. I turned around in time to see a black blur
coming at me. I had just enough time to snap my wrists, before I
was hit mid-chest. It was like being hit by a freight train and it
knocked the air from my lungs. We slid across the pavement a couple
of feet
.
I had
just enough presence of mind to slam both daggers into his back,
and I hoped I hit an organ. He gave a howl of pain as he leapt away
from me. I got up slowly, every bone in my body hurt, and I was
bleeding from my shoulder to my waist. Now I had two opponents, the
odds just got better and better. Movement to my left caught my eye,
Jennifer.

“No, Jennifer, stay where
you are.” I commanded her.

I cracked my neck and took
a fighting stance, and I pulled power to me.

“Give up bitch. You can’t
take us both on.” The ugly man yelled at me
.

“Let us see.” I
said.

Throwing a dagger at the
ugly man’s throat, I launched myself at the new adversary. He
danced away from me. We turned a circle facing each other. He was
my height, a slimmer figure and dark. His skin was black, hair,
eyes, and clothes. I scented the air. His scent told me that he
wasn’t a master either, but he was strong.

“You shouldn’t have let me
get up.” I told him with a grin.

“He wasn’t supposed to
attack you. He was only supposed to follow you. It’s good that you
killed him. It saved me the trouble of having to do it later.” Dark
man told me.

“Good to know. It’s a
little too late, but good to know all the same. Who is the master?”
I asked and stopped moving.

“I can’t tell you that.”
He answered and backed away from me, looking for a way to
escape.

“Oh, no. It’s too late for
that.” I told him. “You really shouldn’t have let me get
up.”

Vampires are dead humans.
So they can’t take a lot of damage. Most of them don’t have any
healing abilities. Only the truly old and extremely powerful can do
that, and dark man was neither.

Two well-aimed daggers,
took out his knees. He fell to what was left of his knees but
before he could fall backwards. I moved rapidly towards him as I
drew my sword. With one mighty slice, I cut off his
head.

“There can be only one.” I
whispered to the body as it fell backwards.
