She was in no position to say anything!
They were through.

Look, Vi

For starters, have you ever heard of
knocking?!

he started, playing for time. She was entirely
too cool for his taste, and that could only mean one thing

she

d go for the jugular before whatever this
was, was over; leaving him destroyed once again, if he let her

She openly laughed to his face,

And what would the point, Julian? Except,
ruining the surprise? It

s funnier just walking in on you! Very
sobering, I might add, if I ever had any idea of coming back here to tell you

say

I

ve finally seen the light, and I

m finally
, finally,
ready to start
our future because I am madly in love with you
…”
her voice trailed as she saw his eyes
widen and his face pale.

He could feel his carotid beat furiously.
What?!
What is she saying?

But before he could even articulate, she
pursued, tauntingly,

But fortunately, this isn

t the purpose of my visit
…”
She sighed, and pinning him down
with one of her hypnotic stare, added,

I just wanted to tell you face to face
that little thing, I didn

t get a chance to, the last time I was
here, since you threw me out without giving me the opportunity to say it
…”

His mouth opened to protest, as she
declared with a broad smile,

Happy birthday Julian. You

re going to be a father, I am pregnant
with your child.

She had left the room before he could
close the perfect

O

that graced his shell-shocked face.

Julian

There wasn

t a woman on the planet he wanted to
strangle more. She just had that kind of effect on him.

There wasn

t a woman on the planet he wanted more

Period.

Julian had given up trying to figure out
how it happened. He

d gone forty-four years without caring
much about anyone other than himself except his sister and his beloved
daughter, then one day
she
showed up and managed to change everything;
everything including rational, collected, thought. There had been a time when
Julian remembered himself thinking rationally, coldly even, - at least by his
standards, anyway-, and even at his worst when he was impulsive and still let
his heart control some of his emotions, it had never, ever, been like it was
now; because of
her
. From the moment Vi had waltzed in and out of his
life, and ever since, in spite of his best efforts, she had the power to render
him speechless...and powerless.

And, she

s done it again.

In five minute flat. He went from anxious,
wondering how she even got to his party, to feeling excited to see her, even as
she was interrupting the delivery of his birthday present, catching him in
flagrante with his cock immersed deep into another woman but instantly becoming
harder at the sight of her, to wanting to strangle her after she delivered yet
another bombshell before leaving him stunned.

Yes, once again, he was struggling for
air.

Happy fucking birthday!
This was turning out to be one of the
worst of his life.

Fuck!

Vi and James

How did it go?

he asked in pressing voice, adding,

Frances Palmers just walked past me with
smoke coming out of her ears
…”
he looked at her as she was reaching the bottom of
the staircase.

James, Let

s go.

she smiled, taking his hand,

My business here is done. In about 60
seconds, Julian McCarty is going to come running out of the room he was having
his birthday present administered in the flesh

and you and I will be gone.

That well? Huh?

he chuckled.

That well, indeed.

she replied, giggling.

Remind me, to never get on your bad side

You

re taking names and
kickin
some today
…”
he concluded, as they walked through the main
door.

Frances

That son of a bitch!

Furious doesn

t even begin to describe how I feel right now!
Blinding rage isn

t close either. I think I need to invent a
new word for this.

And to top it all, I have to wait for the
valet to bring my car! And low, and behold, who do I see exit the house, and
get into a car that, ironically, is parked only meters from the front entrance
of the mansion? James fucking Marshall and that damn woman!

Of course James Marshall is here! I should
have known!
Fucker!

I

m tempted to go over and give them a piece
of my mind. Yes, slapping her into next week would do me a lot of good.
Definitely, make me feel better

except, I don

t have my fucking shoes.

My customs made
Louboutins
are still upstairs, and as far as humiliation goes, once a day is enough!
Walking on pebbles to go and hit that bitch will have to wait.

If only my car could be brought right now
, I think, as I see the shiny black
Escalade pull and take the driveway,
I could run that bitch over

Where the in the hell is that goddamn car?
She mutters, as she watches the object of her
attention disappear at the end of the road as the gates close after it.

Fuck!

Julian

Have you seen her?

he asked, panic lacing his voice.

Julian!

Melissa exclaimed, smiling,

Where in the world have you been? Leaving
your guests to
…”
Melissa
stopped mid-sentence when she noticed how pale he was.

What

s wrong?

she asked, concern now etching her face.

Have you seen her?

he repeated looking around in an erratic
fashion.

Who?

his sister was looking at him worriedly.

He

s looking for Victoryn,

Charlie replied to his wife, while
putting a hand on Julian shoulder, trying to calm him down.

And yes, we

ve seen her, but that was about twenty
minutes ago. James was here with her. Now Julian, what happened?

asked Charlie, as he noticed Julian

s agitated state.

I need to find her.

was the only thing Julian said, walking
away, and quickly returning inside the house, walking past bewildered guests.

He rushed back upstairs to get his cell
phone.

James Marshall.

Of course, he should have known

James and Vi

Can you take me to LAX?

she says, her face touching the window,
eyes closed.

"You're serious?" he asks,
bewildered.

"As a heart attack." she
replies, opening her eyes, giving him a hard stare.

Vi. Don

t tell me you are flying back to Sydney?
What the hell happened with Julian?

he questions, slowing the car down as
they

re reaching the 405 entrance.

No James, I

m not going back to Sydney, it wouldn

t be wise at this time. Not immediately
anyway. I want to fly to Boston. I

m 14 weeks pregnant James, I need to stay
put for a while, and my best friend is a doctor in Boston so that

s where I

m going. I

ll take tonight

s red-eye...

she sighs, looking at her wristwatch.

He remains silent for a few minutes, ingesting
the news of her pregnancy realizing Julian is the father of her baby, and then
asks,

Are you going to tell me what happened
back there? With Frances running off as if the devil was chasing her, and then
you coming out a few minutes later with this dangerous grin on your face
…”

She smiles, and replies,

I caught them in the act
…”

You mean in

?

he says, smiling too.

Yes, in the throes of passion as they say,
naked as worms
…”
she
giggles openly now.

And?

Well, as you can imagine, both of them
were quite shocked to see me a few feet from the bed with a sly grin on my face
…”
her eyes are still shining at the
recollection.

A grin, huh? You are so mean
…”
he chuckles.

Would you rather have me cry James?

she asks in a more serious tone.

He averts his gaze from the road to look
at her, and says,

Of course not. I

d rather you give him hell than see you
cry over him!

he puts his free hand on her knee.

 She smiles and say,

Great minds think alike
…”

A phone ring interrupts them, and the
Onstar
automated voice announces the incoming call is from
Julian McCarty as the number shows on the screen. He looks at her. She doesn

t waver, he presses the accept button and
says,

Hello?

Without preamble, Julian says,

Is she with you?

James looks at her. She is silent,
watching the road through her window.

Hello, Julian.

he says coolly.

Is she with you?

the question is reiterated.

What if she is?

James replies, watching the road, hoping
he is making the right decision.

Silence meets his question, until another
is asked.

Where are you?

Where we are is irrelevant. What do you
want Julian?

James replies, his voice hardening,
recalling where their conversation stopped, and he adds,

From what I

ve heard, you

ve been celebrating your birthday in style
…”
